Where you live at, yo?
I've wanted to start this for awhile and kept forgetting, so here we go. I'm gonna be super creeper/stalkeriffic and I wanna know where you live, if you rent, etc. And if you purchased, how much you paid (if you feel like sharing.) We're starting to seriously plan for a house and I'm curious where others are at, where they've been etc. And I'm a creeper
)
What kind of dwelling do you reside in?:
Do you rent, own, live with family, etc.?:
How many rooms/what are they?:
Is your current place too big/too small/just right?:
What's the parking situation?:
5 year plan?:
10 year plan?:
Re: MASH, well, kinda
What kind of dwelling do you reside in?: Joe and I live in a condo in Londonderry, NH. We paid $144,900 for it in November 2009. It's a small community of only 15 condos.
Do you rent, own, live with family, etc.?: We own.
How many rooms/what are they?: Two bedrooms, 1.5 baths, livingroom, kitchen. So, just five.
Is your current place too big/too small/just right?: For now, it's just right, although I would love more storage. We don't have a basement or attic, so everything is stashed in closets and our tiny storage out in our carport. Not ideal, but we manage. When we decide to have more than just one child, we want to move.
What's the parking situation?: We get one spot in the carport (mine!) and we can fit our two vehicles in front of our condo, too. There is very minimal guest parking, though, which sucks.
5 year plan?: Renovate the condo some more (update the master bathroom and kitchen and replace the carpeting in the bedrooms are our big things) and likely look for a single-family home in another few years.
10 year plan?: Be in a new home, for sure. Outside of that, I'm not too set on concrete plans.
I'll play!
What kind of dwelling do you reside in? We live in front/back split level.
Do you rent, own, live with family, etc.?: We rent, bought it in August 2009, paid $145K.
How many rooms/what are they?: We have 3 bedrooms and 1 full and 1-1/4 bath. We have a large laundry room down stairs that houses the 1/4 bath and soon the other part of the basement will be either the new living room or our master bedroom and the bath will be a full bath.
Is your current place too big/too small/just right: There are only two of us and we have WAY too much stuff for this house. That is one reason why we are remodeling the kitchen, we have no storage, and what we do have is nonadjustable shelves that you can't fit a box of cereal in. We will definitely need bigger when we have kiddos. But we have an inground pool and kick @ss backyard so moving will be bitter sweet.
What's the parking situation? We have a two car attached garage and a decent sized driveway, there is also on street parking.
5 year plan?: Have babies and pfobably stay at this house at least for the first one. We are remodeling the kitchen right now and the downstairs will be next. Once those are done then we will prob consider moving. We have a house in the country that we want to buy and the old lady that lives there should be moving out within 2 years, which will be about perfect. So we have to start saving our pennies!
10 year plan?: Who knows!
What kind of dwelling do you reside in?: A 3-unit apartment building, we're on the first floor and have people living above us (= annoying loud college girls) and below us (=quiet couple but cook stinky food, so much so that twice I have debated calling the landlord to double check that the smell is cooking and not decaying dead bodies).
Even though we're on the first floor, it's elevated about 14' from ground level, which I love b/c we can leave our windows open at night!
Do you rent, own, live with family, etc.?: We rent, DH, Oscar (dog) and I live there. $1600/mo
How many rooms/what are they?: 2bed, 1 ba, aprx 1100 SF, We have a large living area which flows into a kitchen (with an insland in the middle) which flows into the hall. I'd consider it an open floor plan. Then we have the master bed, guest bed, bathroom, and small laundry room.
Is your current place too big/too small/just right?: It's perfect for where we're at in our lives right now (although another closet wouldn't hurt). We have a deck and a fenced in back yard, which isn't too teribbly common in the city and is great for our dog.
What's the parking situation?: There is a garge spot available for $150/mo and a covered outdoor spot available for $100/mo...and that is why we park for free on the street:O) (Especially b/c we only drive about once a week since we both take public trans. to work)
5 year plan?: Own a 3 bed, 2 ba. condo in city and possibly be thinking about babies
10 year plan?: Be living where we want to raise our children and own a home (location still TBD)

What kind of dwelling do you reside in?: Apartment
Do you rent, own, live with family, etc.?: Live with Joe's family, not in the same house, but on the same property
How many rooms/what are they?: 3 rooms: bedroom, living room/kitchenette, bathroom.
Is your current place too big/too small/just right?: WAY too small
What's the parking situation?: We're attached to a garage that can fit 1 car when it's clean, otherwise we park outside with a dirt driveway.
5 year plan?: Save, fix credit so we can start looking at houses.
10 year plan?:Be out, on our own in a house, paying it down. What kind of dwelling do you reside in?: 2 bedroom, 2 story house. It's blue and pretty adorable. A nice family-oriented part of town, but right in the middle of 'everything'.
Do you rent, own, live with family, etc.?: Purchased in March this year for $130K - we practically stole it... the owner needed to move to Germany pronto, and with the market, he took our first offer with a few grand of improvements in the contract (and after he put about 15K into kitchen and bathroom improvements 2 years ago)
How many rooms/what are they?: 2 beds, kitchen, dining, living, full basement, half semi-finished that we turned into a nice office. The 'big hit' we took on the house was 1 bathroom, but for a 'starter home', it works. Good size yard, neighborhood borders a park.
Is your current place too big/too small/just right?: Just right, though a half bath would be nice.
What's the parking situation?: Driveway and 1 car garage, detached.
5 year plan?: Staying put.
10 year plan?: Likely a bigger house, but in Columbus? who knows. What kind of dwelling do you reside in?:Until tomorrow we live in a 1 bedroom apartment in Hatfield, MA. We close on our house tomorrow in South Hadley.
Do you rent, own, live with family, etc.?: Officially own starting tomorrow.
How many rooms/what are they?: 2 Bedrooms, 2.5 baths. Kitchen/livingroom/mancave/diningroom so 6
Is your current place too big/too small/just right?: For now its just right. And compared to a 2 room apartment ANYTHING would seem better.
What's the parking situation?: 1 Car garage....MINE....and a regular driveway fro Dave to park.
5 year plan?: We're doing work (like any home owner). Re-doing the kitchen and upstairs bathroom. And Dave's totally mapping out his mancave.
10 year plan?: We may start looking into selling the house, depending on if we have kids and what not. We got an amazing deal on the house (it was an estate sale and the son didn't want to pay for the upkeep on the house through the winter months). So if the market gets back up, we hope to sell it for a good size profit.Woohoo, congrats lady!!

What kind of dwelling do you reside in?: Bi-level. At my front door, you can go up 5 steps, or down 5 steps.
Do you rent, own, live with family, etc.?: Own. Purchased June 09, ~$1900/mo
How many rooms/what are they?: 3 bed 1 bath, living room, dining room, kitchen, office, lower level = man cave, so another living room, game room (pool table, darts, chess, all the video units we've collected over the years) as well as laundry room, home gym and storage space and utlity bench. Huge backyard (we live on almost 2 acre lot) Nice big deck, which walks down to a big patio. Then in the wayyy back we have benches, bird baths, etc.
Is your current place too big/too small/just right?: too big for the two of us, but too small for the family we currently plan to have
What's the parking situation?: huge driveway - long and super wide.
5 year plan?: stay here
10 year plan?: eventually move closer to center of my town. Need more bedrooms and definitely need more bathrooms!
What kind of dwelling do you reside in?: We live in a "cookie cutter" house in North Carolina
Do you rent, own, live with family, etc.?: We own our home; we bought it in February so we have had it for almost a year now.
How many rooms/what are they?: We have a 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath with a loft area upstairs that is my sewing room. The laundry room is tiny.
Is your current place too big/too small/just right?: Most of the house is just right. The neighborhood isn't bad but it isn't great either. Some rooms are a bit tight but I think that might be more due to us not using our space as effectively as we should.
What's the parking situation?: We have a 2 car garage which is being used mostly for storage and to house DH's VW bug he needs to restore and his motorcycle. We park in the driveway.
5 year plan?: We hope that in 5 years we can afford a nicer house in a better neighborhood. We plan on having kids in the next 2 years so finding a good neighborhood with a good school will be important then.
10 year plan?: No clue. Working on the 5 year plan now.Created by MyFitnessPal - Free Calorie Counter
TTC Since January 2011 - We have bad spermOh man, this is depressing. 98% of the time, I'm pretty convinced that I live in a cooler location than most of you guys, but comparing your amount of space and monthly costs to ours just makes me sad. Where are all my other NYC girls to make me feel better?
What kind of dwelling do you reside in?: One bedroom apartment in a small apartment building (only 6 apts in our building). Our landlords are a cute old Polish couple, and I
them!
Do you rent, own, live with family, etc.?: rent. $1600 a month.
How many rooms/what are they?:
One bedroom, living room, dining room, kitchen and bathroom
Is your current place too big/too small/just right?:
Too small. I did grow up spoiled in a huge apartment in Manhattan though! Our current living room is so tiny that I can't even roll out my yoga mat. And there is a severe lack of closets/storage space. We have a gigantic kitchen though! And a dining room, which a lot of NYC'ers don't have.
What's the parking situation?:
Street parking. We don't own a car though, and I don't even have a driver's license, so parking isn't even really on our radar. Public transportation, car services and taxi's are our best friend!
5 year plan?: Move into a bigger apartment, save up for a house, hopefully move into a house. Our lease is up in September, and we're defining moving into a bigger place one way or another then.
10 year plan?: Who knows? Maybe a nicer house?Maureen & Jonathan - Married 10-9-10 | Expecting our first child 05-04-13
What kind of dwelling do you reside in?: A small ranch-style house
Do you rent, own, live with family, etc.?: We own. And it's paid off. Purchased for 65K, currently appraised at twice that.
How many rooms/what are they?:2 bedrooms, 1 bath, living room and a kitchen that isn't big enough to eat in (okay... it probably is big enough to eat in, but the layout isn't easy to get a nice table in). In the basement, we have an unfinished utility/laundry/storage with a half-bath (which I have never used!) and the other half is finished as an office/work-out room and a not-legal bedroom.
Is your current place too big/too small/just right?: He thinks it's just right and that I need to get rid of some crap... I think it's waaaayyyy too small! But we make do.
What's the parking situation?: Detached two-car garage and a drive way big enough for at least 4 more cars. Room for two to park in the street.
5 year plan?: Buy land... at least a quarter-section. And build. We are working on the design right now.
10 year plan?: be in that same houseWhat kind of dwelling do you reside in?: A one bedroom apartment in an apartment complex...I think there are 15 or so buildings and each building has 12 apartments in it.
Do you rent, own, live with family, etc.?: Rent...we pay $773/mo which includes water, sewer, heat, and trash. It's around 730 sq feet.
How many rooms/what are they?: 5 rooms. We have a living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, and a bedroom.
Is your current place too big/too small/just right?: It's alright for the moment; it's just the two of us and our two cats so it's all we really need. We'd love a bigger place though with a lot more storage, but right now this is all we can afford so we're here for another year.
What's the parking situation?: There is tons of free parking. Typically Jason's truck and my car are the two closest spots to our entrance (I guess we have good parking luck?). The other day I had to park about 10 spots away and literally said, "I had to park all the way down there!" lol so we're pretty spoiled when it comes to parking.
5 year plan?: We would love to be able to buy something small within the next 5 years.
10 year plan?: Neither of us ever see us in a big fancy house, so we'll be pretty happy to own a cute modest sized home one day.
What kind of dwelling do you reside in?: Apartment complex. There's about 150 apartments all together.
Do you rent, own, live with family, etc.?: Rent, we pay $800/month and that includes heat, hot water, trash and it's just under 1000 sq feet.
How many rooms/what are they?: Living room, 2 bedrooms (1 being an animal room), 1 bathroom, small kitchen, small den, dining room, Large balcony and huge walk-in storage closet.
Is your current place too big/too small/just right?: It's just right for us.
What's the parking situation?: Plenty of parking, but we both take the bus since its more convenient for us.
5 year plan?: Hope to have a nice, small house by this point. With a nice piece of land to have goats and chickens.
10 year plan?: Not sure yet.
What kind of dwelling do you reside in?: House
Do you rent, own, live with family, etc.?: Own
How many rooms/what are they?: 3/4 bedrooms (one is off the dining room and Pete uses it as his office, but it has a closet.). one bathroom, living room, dining room, kitchen, basement #1, basement #2, family room, 3 season porch.
Is your current place too big/too small/just right?: too small! just kidding, it is probably just right though I like lots of space.
What's the parking situation?: Driveway. we have an attached "garage" but it would only barely fit my car in it, so it is more like an attached "shed"
5 year plan?: Kitchen remodel?
10 year plan?: Rule the worldPlanning Bio
Married Blog (seriously lacking)
Thanks!
We are in a fortunate situation like this, but our house isn't paid off yet!
What kind of dwelling do you reside in?: A 2 story, built in 1907 house
Do you rent, own, live with family, etc.?: We own, we managed to get our house two years ago for $46K (we could sell it easily now for $100K+)
How many rooms/what are they?:Technically it is a 4 BR house, but one room is so small we use it as a walk in closet. We have 1 bathroom, a huge living room, a dining room, family room, & kitchen
Is your current place too big/too small/just right?: Right now just right, but we need storage (no garage and a small basement make storage a problem)
What's the parking situation?: No garage, but we are one of the few houses on our street with a driveway
5 year plan?: Competely gut and redo bathroom, make kitchen functional enough to use with kids
10 year plan?:In ten years we plan on deciding whether to relocate or to build an addition on the house with a new kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, master bedroom/bathroom, and possibly an attached garage. We will see where our neighborhood is at and what everything will cost and decide from there.
What kind of dwelling do you reside in?: A typical late-60's/early-70s style suburban ranch
Do you rent, own, live with family, etc.?: rent, for now. We were going to buy the house next door, but we decided against it because the owner financing wasn't working out. Our landlord has been talking about the possibility of letting go of this property, and if she does, we'll be buying it from her.
How many rooms/what are they?: 3 bedrooms upstairs, 2 downstairs, 1 bathroom up and a half bath down, a kitchen/dining room that is too small but very cozy, a garage renovated into office space for DH and lab space for me. Downstairs, in addition to the two bedrooms, our basement was finished into a mini-apartment, complete with an additional family room that gets used more as a storage area, and the laundry room. We have a fireplace in both the upstairs and downstairs living areas, which I LOVE.
Is your current place too big/too small/just right?: It's a little cramped at the moment, but with 3 18 year-olds with plans to move out on their own, a 17 year-old with plans to go away to college, and a 14 year-old who wants to be a Cordon Bleu chef and train in France, it probably will be a little too big sooner than I want to think about. Also, the 17 year-old and one of the 18 year-olds don't live with us full-time, so we're not always in tight quarters.
What's the parking situation?: We have 6 drivers in the house...of course there's not enough parking! But honestly, there's never enough parking anywhere.
5 year plan?: If we haven't bought this house, we hopefully will have at least found the land we want to build on for our 10-year plan
10 year plan?: We want to find a small-acreage property in the country and either renovate an existing farm house or build our own. I am adding goats' milk soaps and body lotion to my candle line, and I'm hoping to be able to raise our own goats and use their milk in the long run.I am kind of late, but I thought I would still add my two cents for what it is worth.
What kind of dwelling do you reside in?: House
Do you rent, own, live with family, etc.?: Rent-It is about 1300 sq ft with 3 br/2 baths. It includes a washer and dryer (which is extra per month but so worth it!), water, trash, etc. for $710 a month.
How many rooms/what are they?: We have 3 br/2 baths. The master bedroom is DH and mine. The midsize bedroom will be a game room after my brother moves out and then the small bedroom is our office.
Is your current place too big/too small/just right?: I think for everything we want it is still too small.
What's the parking situation?: We have a driveway that fits two cars and can park a car or two on the street if need be.
5 year plan?: Hopefully own a home.
10 year plan?: Living in the home we purchased. At least that is the plan!
Trip to Prague & bring home furbaby when we get back

What kind of dwelling do you reside in?: An apartment complex consisting of a ridiculous amount of buildings with 12 apartments in each located in Nashua, NH. We even have a guard gate where visitors have to sign into.
Do you rent, own, live with family, etc.?: We rent at $1095 a month and that does not include any utilities besides hot water
How many rooms/what are they?: 5 1/2 rooms---2 bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, living room/dining room
Is your current place too big/too small/just right?: Right now it works for us. The second bedroom is guest/office. Even with 2 walk-in closets and a few smaller ones, we need more storage. The kitchen is obnoxiously small
What's the parking situation?: HORRIBLE!!!!!! Parking lots are always packed with people in unofficial spots. There are no assignment spots unless you want to pay extra a month.
5 year plan?: Have our starter home and at least 1 child. Work on upgrading our home
10 year plan?: Move into the home where we plan to spend our lives together and raise our family. By now, we will have completed our family (no more children).
October '10 Siggy: The Aisle
What kind of dwelling do you reside in?: End unit in a relatively private condo complex. (We absolutely enjoy the perks that the condo fees entail, but still get all of the perks of a single family dwelling in our unit, as well, including a privacy fenced backyard.)
Do you rent, own, live with family, etc.?: We own. It was purchased in October 2009. The general price range falls into the $200k-ish area.
How many rooms/what are they?: I guess we have 13/14 rooms, if you count the downstairs apartment/room that our daughter has. Four bedrooms, three baths, kitchen, downstairs kitchen, downstairs living area, dining room, living room, laundry room, storage room. (Shed outside, as well as a deck, tent gazebo, and additional storage room off the front porch. Our master bedroom also has a partial walk-in wrap around closet that comes up behind the linen closet.)
Is your current place too big/too small/just right?: Anyone else would say we're nuts and that it's fine, but we could have 10,000 square feet and I'd think it's too small. Haha.
What's the parking situation?: One space is ours with our condo fee, additional spaces can be purchased on a price-per-month if required - plenty of visitor parking.
5 year plan?: If we remain in the city we are currently in, we'll be looking for a new home by then. If things go as planned, however, we'll have moved with the military by then. We will buy, but what, where, and all that will depend entirely on the city/country in question.
10 year plan?: With military life, that's an impractial thing to attempt. Be alive is good enough for us.What kind of dwelling do you reside in?: A townhouse in a community that has condos, townhouses, and single family homes
Do you rent, own, live with family, etc.?: We own-DH bought the house in 2008 and right now its me, DH, and the pup
How many rooms/what are they?: We have 4 BR, 3 1/2 Bathrooms, a living room, dining room, nice sized kitchen, and a basement that we use as a family room. We also have a small yard and a deck.
Is your current place too big/too small/just right?: As big as we first thought the house was, we have a ton of stuff and manage to take up every inch of the house!
What's the parking situation?: Perfect-a detatched 2 car garage in the back and plenty of street parking.
5 year plan?: Continue to make improvements/renovate the house. Save up for a single family home.
10 year plan?: Live in a single family home with a good amount of land. Who knows where though-we will probably stay on the east coast but not sure if we will be staying in Maryland...
And I'm a creeper
)
What kind of dwelling do you reside in?: red brick rancher, with old people window hangs.
Do you rent, own, live with family, etc.?: Ryan owns this house. He bought it 8 years ago for $115,000.
How many rooms/what are they?: 2 bedrooms, 1 full bath, living room, kitchen, walk-in closet, an attic, and basement.
Is your current place too big/too small/just right?: For now it's just right, but once bambinos start arriving, we'll need a bigger place. The 2nd bedroom is our "office."
What's the parking situation?: We have a car port, and a nice size driveway. He had added onto it so his work truck can park seperately.
5 year plan?: Fix this house up so we can sell it to the grandson of the original owner for more money and get a bigger home in a more reasonable area.
10 year plan?: Not sure about the future home entails.
What kind of dwelling do you reside in?: We live in a 2-story home, kinda cookie cutter built in the 70's.
Do you rent, own, live with family, etc.?: We rent in RI for $1800/month. Its actually on the low side for where we live and the size of the house we are in. We own a house just outside of boston that is going on the market in March. We bought it for 410,000 5 years ago.It was our dream home but we ended up getting take for a ride by our contractor so its not such a dream home anymore but its BEAUTIFUL.
How many rooms/what are they?: 3 bedrooms, and office(no closet) 2 full baths, a kitchen with and eating area, a living room, a dining room and a sun room. The dining room is being turned into a playroom as we speak oh and a laundry room and basement thats partially finished and Mike uses it as his "cave"
Is your current place too big/too small/just right?: For now, it's just right, although I would love more storage. Its not my dream home but the neighborhood is amazing and the yard is huge which is great for the dogs.
What's the parking situation?: We have a huge driveway but nothing is covered.
5 year plan?: Sell the house in Boston, buy a house in RI. If that doesn't work we are moving back into the place in Boston.
10 year plan?: We aren't sure. A lot of what we do is dependent on where Mike gets a teaching position.
What kind of dwelling do you reside in?:
Single family ranch style house built in 2003.
Do you rent, own, live with family, etc.?:
Own. Mortgage was $1000 a month but we paid it off in December.
How many rooms/what are they?:
3088 sq feet. 4 bedrooms, 3 bath, Kitchen, breakfast room, Living/family room, dining room, office. Oversized 2 car garage (30 feet long) and 2 car carport
Is your current place too big/too small/just right?:
Just right. DH has a lot of collectibles and garage toys/tools.
What's the parking situation?:
See above. But the driveway is a single car width so sometimes we need to juggle cars. One is in the garage, two are in the carport.
5 year plan?:
Stay
10 year plan?:
Stay, but 12 year plan is to retire and move somewhere. Not sure where yet. DH would like a ranch in Texas Hill Country.
What kind of dwelling do you reside in?:
An apartment in a 2 family house. 1st floor
Do you rent, own, live with family, etc.?:
Rent - $1500 per month
How many rooms/what are they?:
6 - 2 bedrooms, kitchen, living room, dining room which we turned into a game room, and laundry room. We have one bathroom.
Is your current place too big/too small/just right?:
I wish I had my own bathroom, but it's a decent size.
What's the parking situation?:
We have to fight for parking. People try to take up two spots on purpose to save spots for other people. We only have one car, a teeny tiny Toyota Yaris, and
5 year plan?:
Definately getting a 3 bedroom for when we TTC.
10 year plan?:
Hopefully buying a house.
What kind of dwelling do you reside in?: 2 BR apartment in the Philly suburbs. private entrance which I love!
Do you rent, own, live with family, etc.?: Rent - $1010 a month
How many rooms/what are they?: 2 bedrooms, 1 small bathroom w a bathtub, kitchen, and a huge living room
Is your current place too big/too small/just right?: too small - partially bc i lived there first and DH moved in, so all of my stuff was already settled in. we really need a walk in closet too.
What's the parking situation?: lot in the pack, and street parking in front - not assigned. I've never had an issue.
5 year plan?: We're going to move to a different apartment probably and then look into buying in the next 2 years.
10 year plan?:hmm, not sure. depends how buying goes
Just one thing to think about, I don't have a washer/dryer in the apartment right now and it sucks now that I have to do DH's laundry too. I wish I had one in the unit.
ps - great idea doing this, we're thinking about buying soon too so I'm going to keep tabs on this
