Saturday night's allright

I'm drinking my flex points, watching the Colts and making dining reservations for our trip to Disney World in May. What are you doing?

Re: Saturday night's allright

  • Drinking to forget about the fact that my child whined almost nonstop this afternoon, and watching football.  Also, following the news about the shooting in Arizona.
  • Ate homemade pizza, gave up on the Saints game, played Lego Batman, now watching and hoping the Colts make me happier than the Saints.
    image
  • Logging in some Wii Fit time before deciding how to use the 14 points I somehow manage to have left for the day.  Will it be cookies or booze?
I'm pretty sure it's pronounced your mom's a moron and if you didn't have your name legally changed by the age of 22, so are you. Unless you're from another continent. -Groomz
  • My kids didn't whine too much today, thank goodness. Owen seems to have turned the corner with his cold. Maggie's going through a "throw a fit at bedtime and naptime" phase, but it will pass. She told Mike last night his favorite song is "John Denver." He hates JD so where she got this is a total mystery.

    That story is just chilling.

  • Making chicken dumpling soup, drinking poinsettias, watching football, feeding/playing with children. I had to stop watching the Arizona news.

    image

  • Watching hockey, admiring my new bookshelves, restraining myself from looking at Petfinder, digesting taquitos and cookies, trying not to fall asleep. Ikea and Target in one day is exhausting.

  • I'm also looking at lentil recipes.  Anyone have any they love?

  • The handful of times I've tried to make lentils they've always disappointed. So no recipes from me.

  • I haven't made lentils before, but the Kitchn blog was raving about a curried lentil soup from Orangette earlier this week.

  • D is at a hockey game. I considered going out, but I stayed out until 2am last night. WTF!?! Bedtime is at 10! So, I'm watching the 4th Harry Potter movie finally. I'm kind of loving my night to myself. Probably because D has been on my last nerve this weekend over stupid crap. Fent and I met AJ from Project Runway last night at a gay bar! That was kind of exciting. Low points were her telling me I have a big forehead and also that I'm a gay man in a womans body because I'm kind of flamey. That last bit may not be an actual low point. It's kind of true. Also, she sort of molested a shirtless bartender. I drunk dialed Bethie tonight. Straight to VM.

  • Also, drinking my flex points kind of cracked me up, because that's how I roll.

This has reminded me how much I like Apt. Therapy and should check it more.

  • Flex points (and activity points, when I earn them) are for alcohol and ice cream.

I have a lentil spinach soup recipe if you're interested.

I'm alternating between grading and playing on the internet while watching the game.

  • Fallin, this is a really basic lentils & rice recipe, but it has some nice variations suggested at the end.  Very much a recipe you could build on and improvise.

  • We made this tonight, it was really easy and super good.  We did the poached egg and everything, and I'm happy to report we poached successfully.

Still coming off the high of the Seahawks win.  8-9 baby!!!

I like with pork.  I'm getting the sense that a little bacon, onion, garlic, carrots and celery form a good foundation.

Now that I'm off my phone I can post the recipe. http://www.bonappetit.com/recipes/2010/12/curried_lentil_soup

  • Also, here's the soup I made tonight. Totally worth the bit of thumb I lopped off while chopping leeks.

  • Thanks, Noisy.  I love Orangette.

That white bean stew looks yummy.  I'd maybe use kale instead of chard.  Chard is one of the few greens I dislike.

  • Dudes. The Colts. Hmmm.

Also, I don't find Jim Carrey appealing in any way.

  • I liked him in Eternal Sunshine, and as Andy Kaufman. I think that's about it.

  • Lentil Spinach soup

1 1/4 cup lentils - no need to soak

    3 cups water

    10 oz spinach

1 or 1/2 onion depending on your taste

at least one clove garlic depending on taste

    salt

    1 lemon

Chop onion and garlic and heat in pot with olive oil until onion is soft.  Add lentils and 3 cups of water.  Add a couple pinches of salt (sorry I don't measure this).  Heat to a boil then reduce heat to low and simmer for 1 hour covered.

Add spinach. Zest the lemon and add the zest, then squeeze the lemon juice in as well.  Cook for a few more minutes so spinach is heated.  We like this soup with a nice crusty bread and homemade garlic butter.
