I am a mix of happy and sad.

On Friday, we learned that MrTummy's family's dog, Charlie, had been hit by a car and had a spinal injury.  After several hours on cortisone to reduce swelling, the vet determined that the dog had lost the use of his legs, so they put him down.  He was only 5, and everyone is very sad.

On the bright side, MrT and I made it through an entire weekend with no one else helping us care for the baby.  I was finally able to clear out/organize a bunch of the crap that has arrived at our house in the last few weeks, which makes me feel more like life is under control.

Back to bad: J had an awful night last night and was not responding to any of the usual techniques for settling him.  On the bright side, Jenny seems to be starting to understand the nighttime routine (i.e. we're not all getting up for the day; we're just trying to get back to sleep) and just snuggles in with whichever one of us is not on baby duty for the moment.

Back to happy:  J's been asleep since 8:30.  I got some uninterrupted sleep, and I have 20 minutes to myself before I have to feed him.

HT, I'm sorry about the pup. That's so sad. Are you doing the 5 S's with the bebe?  Maybe he's having a growth spurt? Is he wanting to eat a lot?

  • my bunny died last week :(

I'm starting to have heart palpitations every time I think about my upcoming surgery (next week!)  My H is a PITA and doesn't like to drive into the big scary city so we haven't figured out how I'm getting to and from the hospital.  Mind you the hospital is about 4 blocks off the highway, but of course he doesn't like the highway either.  jerkface.

Yesterday was a complete waste, I was hungover for the better part of it.

  • Speaking of jenm, I was trying to remember the other day what it was that caused her baby not to make it.  Does anybody remember what happened exactly?  I only remember vague details like it was a vaccination got missed or something.

Kristen, we had been doing 3 of the 5 Ss with success, but last night they weren't cutting it, so we tried adding in the side/stomach positioning and head jiggling.  I'm not very good at either of those techniques yet.  Sitting in his vibrating chair with wave sounds playing next to him finally got him to sleep this morning.  I can't really tell if he's eating more or just wants to spend more time nuzzled up at the breast now that he's getting the hang of latching.

BTW, my goal is that, by next week, I'll have posts that do not mention feeding this baby.  Maybe I should go dye my hair to match his just to have something different to talk about.

I'm sorry about your bunny, Mashed. :(

WTF is wrong with your H?  He should be taking you to and from your surgery, no questions asked.  Surgery is a big deal and your spouse should be there for you.  Boo frickin hoo if he doesn't like the highway or going into town.  I can't believe he would consider not driving you to this.  What a poopface.

you need to kick him in his junk for that Mashed. He needs to be with you from start to finish. Dropping you off and picking you up is unacceptable In my book. What up with that?

  • Ditto Cali and Christin.  He should be able to suck it up and drive you.

HT, Head jiggling was the KEY to our 5-S Success.  I couldn't hold him sideways and do it like the good doctor Karp (H could) so I did the jiggling while holding him in a regular cradle hold and that worked almost as well.

Are you going to turn your head into a peach?  That is what would match J's hair.  His head looks so fuzzy and soft, like a little peach.

weird, Cal.  I was just thinking about her Sat. night and was wondering what had happened since I had never heard.  But I was JUST thinking about that.

Kiz just reminded me. This is gross, so be forewarned....

Remember all that intense sinus pressure I was complaining about. My teeth were hurting. I couldn't chew. It had gotten bad enough that I was about to go to the doctor. Then, Saturday morning I blew my nose for the elevenmillionth time and blew out a chunk of something that had to have been close to 2 inches long and almost solid. It could have been a double for the blob in an old sci fi movie. Then, walla, no more pressure. It was glorious and disgusting.

I have this experience nearly every time I get a sinus infection, which is something like once a year.  I thought it was part of my skull the first time it happened to me.

  • I agree with you all of course and I'm sure he'll do it, he's just hoping someone else offers to drive.  One of our friends has already said she'll bring him to pick me up that Friday.  He also hates the T (our subway system) but was actually considering that until I put my foot down and told him I was not going to take the T to or from the hospital, I'm already going to be mess of nerves I don't need that thank you very much.

  • I am definitely having a girl and I am very, very happy about it.

Buddha - I would have been so proud and fascinated by something like that as well.  But I also like to clean ears so I'm gross.

I think her placenta detached from her uterus when she went into labor.  It gave me nightmares for the last little bit of my pregnancy.

  • I thought the cord was around the neck. I do remember that it was something that could have been prevented if the doctors had checked and found it.  That must make it so much worse.

  • I believe she had a placental abruption and that it was caused bby soemthing similar to placenta previa but more rare.
  • I guess this means that Esselle did a crappy job of telling us what happened since none of us seem to know.  Esselle = fired.
