Hullo

This is my 3rd snow day in 2 weeks. I love my job but laugh that everything around here closed for SIX INCHES OF SNOW.

I just made some drop biscuits, now I think I'll watch last night's Jersey Shore.

Re: Hullo

  • I am jealous of your snow days. It's going to be 75 here today. Stupid.

    image

  • Don't be jealous. Everything was covered in ice the other day and I almost broke my neck walking in from my car.

Oh. Here's a story (after I typed this out I realize it's pretty boring, but whatever):

So. Tuesday it rained. Some areas got ice, we only got the rain. But we also had like a foot and a half of snow on the ground, which then started to melt, but then it got cold overnight and it all froze again. So Wednesday morning I go out to my car and there was about 2 inches of solid ice in the driveway.

(Driveway background: it's a gravel driveway so the plow guy can't put his blade all the way down or else he'd just pick up rocks and dirt and shiit. So it's never totally clear of snow and it's usually pretty slippery.)

I decide to complain to the landlord, since snow removal is their responsibility and they NEVER put salt down. I shoot her an email and at 9:00 at night the husband is out there with one of those gargantuan heat blower fan thingies, like they have at the sidelines in football games to warm up the players/de-ice the field. He's using this to de-ice the driveway. Instead of just throwing a bag of salt down. Weirdos. And where the hell (and WHY) would you buy one of those? For your HOUSE.

  • I feel like southern New Englanders are turning into wimps about snow.  At this rate, schools will be in session until July.
  • I have no snow.  I am snowless.

  • Maybe he's being environmentally friendly. I think Seattle decided not to use salt because it kills the ecosystem or something. Or maybe he likes to pretend he works at the football field.

I will bag some of ours up and send it to you.  I'm exceedingly bitter about all the snow we've gotten this winter.  I came back to Tennessee to get away from this nonsense.

  • Ian holding Wally is adorable!

I am very greatful I work from home on days like today and I know I have no right to complain. However, last week during the big storm they told the majority of the office they did not have to go in. They got a free snow day and because I work from home I still obviously worked. I want a free snow day damn it!

  • I had a "snow day" yesterday that actually turned out not to be. We had some ice, nothing horrible. I had a phone call from a co-worker around 6:30 saying "so and so just texted me, enjoy your snow day!" I figure we are closed and turn on the TV and see that most everything is closed, but my work isn't listed. Wonder about it a bit, but see the public school systems that serve the area are closed, figure we are too. Go back to sleep. Wake up at around 11, see that we still aren't listed and call.

We were open. WTF? I talked to the girl who sent the original text and she said she meant it as the roads were bad and be careful. Um, yeah, thanks. So, I had to use leave time. It wasn't a bad day. I hit the gym, did some laundry, etc. But, still, I was pissed.

  • I'm so tired of the snow. I got shiit to do!

I'd think the heat blower would also be harmful to the environment with electricity usage!

Kay, I love your new siggy!

Seriously. It's a ghost town in my office right now.

I busted my ass coming out of the house this morning, T didn't salt after we had rain/melting the other day. I was covered in snow.

  • I'm home today since it's Friday and so glad I don't have to go out today--the HIGH is supposed to be 8F.  Brrrr.

I'm putting my 2 week notice in on Monday.  I'm skeered.

  • Damnit, this means we'll see even less of you than we do now!  Obviously I'm happy for you, but I weep for the loss of you.  We never see you anymore. :(

I'm so confused.  He does realize it gets colder at night and in all likelihood everything he melts is just going to re-freeze, right?

And whoa, Tasty!  Big news. Didn't you just drop to part time?

  • I honestly don't know if he realizes that, Lindsay. Our first winter here he didn't get a plow guy for awhile, then told me "Every year I forget it will snow until it's too late". They're both a little dumb.

  • I miss you tooooooooo, Bethie!

It's just not working out.  You guys know H owns his own business and things happen where he has to be able to get out during the day and can't when he's got Jack Mon-Thurs.  Plus then he has to work all night shifts and weekends, coming home at 2 am and then getting up at 7:45 when I go to work.  That really couldn't go on for long.  I would SAH but do H's admin/finance etc.  We also will probably work on getting Gerkin #2 started sometime this year and it will just be easier for us for me to SAH.

I wanted to be able to "do it all" but we have some priorities that are important to us (like not using daycare, and that is simply a personal preference for us--not a judgement!).  I will either get more involved w. H's business (easy for me since that's what I know too) or get another job when the kids start FT school to keep me "fufilled" or whatever.

  • I'm not going anywhere!  I will definately just learn to be more participatory in the Sisterhood from home.

  • Awww, I'm happy for you, Tasty! I'm glad you can do what you need to to keep yourself sane.

  • Whatever, I FEEL YOUR JUDGMENT TASTY!

Really though, it sounds like the best decision for your family and I'm totally happy for you.  And jealous of your plans to get working on #2.  I have the itch, but we just aren't there yet.

  • thanks, guys!

my boss isn't going to receive the news well.  I'm hoping that because I was out 3 months that they feel secure enough in knowing my "department" that they won't be straight out mad at me for doing what's best for my family.

I allowed my H to review all my finances, accounts, credit cards, etc. last night.  He.  Was.  In.  Heaven.  lol  I'm very private financially (something I learned from an early age) but of course that has to completely change now that I'm not going to be working.

  • Can today be a baby picture day?  Preferably Baby News style, but I'll take pictures with no captions too.  I wanna oogle everybody's cuties.

  • Congrats on getting to SAH and thinking about #2 Tasty! I hope you boss is understanding when you give your notice and if not then oh well. Like you said, you have to do what is best for your family.

  • I spent the day at home with Connor yesterday for the weather too. He has now started to tell me that I am not his friend when he's upset. (see, biological kids hate you too!) Rationally, I know I'm his parent and not his friend in the first place and he's just upset because I'm making the parent decision blah blah blah, but it still hurts my feelers.

  • Huh. I can't imagine my H and I not sharing that stuff. ::judges Tasty:: any who, congrats and don't be skeered. It's your life. I think having lost a job has changed my view on feeling like I "owe" some sort of loyalty to my employer.
