Re: PG/Mom Check-In

  • I am being induced Wednesday!! :) Over the weekend I tried some ways to "naturally" induce labor and nothing worked. So tomorrow morning I get my cervix checked to see if I need to come in tomorrow night for Cervidil (to become dilated). I keep telling H this will probably be our last night at home without babies!!

Very exciting! I saw your post the other day about the eggplant parm and wondered if that would do the trick over the weekend. I'd never heard of that one before. I'd always heard spicy food or sex. I wasn't trying to bring on labor, but it just so happened, a few days before my due date with Beckett, we had Mexican food for dinner, came home and got it on, and I woke up a few hours later because my water broke. Probably just a coincidence, but I won't rule out trying that combo again!

That's so exciting! They will be here so soon! Spending these last weeks with H as just the 2 of us is getting me all sentimental and sappy.

  • Well, I've hit the 35/35 mark! Woo hoo! I was having pretty bad sciatic pain this weekend and I didn't even work. :/ Should be interesting tonight at work! I went to the chiropractor this morning so hopefully it won't be too bad. I %^*&$%# %^ can't even stand work anymore. Shocker for you guys to hear that, I know. ;) I have made a promise to myself that the next time I get KU I will NOT be working where I work now, or possibly on any floor as a bedside nurse. A desk job sounds fabulous to me! I can't put myself through this again!

In Feb my appts will be weekly so I'm excited. I'll be having another growth u/s around 38 weeks. This baby really feels big to me. I wonder if she is! I hope not too big. My mom said my sister and I were 3 weeks early (7+ lbs and 8+lbs), my youngest brother was a few days early (10 lbs 2 oz), and my other younger brother was 2 weeks late (I think he was at least 10lbs 5 oz). Apparently my family makes big babies! And H was 10 lbs 2 oz. Eek! We shall see!

I am very grateful because I don't have trouble sleeping. I can get comfortable (I am most comfy lying down anyway bc it takes pressure off my back) and she never wakes me up with her kicks, so far. I have too pee a lot, but I am used to waking up a lot anyway due to working nights and having to pee 1-2 times a night even when I'm not pg. I always fall right back to sleep. I love sleep and am cherishing every moment of it. :)

Our house is pretty much as organized as much as it's going to get. H and I are over it! We need to clean and I am seriously considering hiring someone to help. With working FT and my back problems, I just don't want to deal with it all and I don't want H to have to do it all either.

  • Blossom- Congrats how exciting!!!!!

As for me, I had my 34 week appt last friday, my dr checked my cervix, and I am 1cm dilated. Malia is scheduled to be here Feb 22nd, my induction date, because of my GD. She is measuring big, but I have a feeling, my baby is not as big as they are estimating. My appts are weekly, starting this week. My babyshower is on the 5th and we are moving this weekend. A lot to do in a small amount of time.

Wow, you sound like you have a lot going on! What are they going to do to induce you? I don't have GD but my baby might be big. I'd rather be induced than have a c-section, but I don't want to get pitocin. I don't want an epi (well, I am going to try to go without, I should say) and I heard that pitocin intensifies your contractions. I'd rather have that stuff they put on your cervix or something like that.

Anniversary Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker BabyFruit Ticker
  • My doctor says that I will more than likely have Pitocin, because my cervix is ripe(dont know what that means), she also said the likely hood of a csection are very slim, since I am already dilating with no problems. My baby measured last week @ 5lbs 4oz, so the dr estimates her to be about 7 1/2 at delivery, however thats not really big, but because of my GD they cant chance it, thats why I will be induced @ 38 weeks. Now as far as the size you think your baby would be, OMG I could not even imagine, but the medicine you are talking about is Cervadil, thats what they use, to help the cervix open and ripen(which I heard hurts like HELL, worse than the pitocin).
  • Blossom - I am so over the moon excited for you! I can't wait to see what these two cuties look like.

I hate how much that I am swelling. I thought women swelled while pregnant from being on their feet too much, which I am definitely not. I hate sleeping without my socks on and if I keep them on, I wake up with dark red rings around my ankles from how much my feet have swollen. Did I mention that my toes look like Lil Smokies? lol.

On Friday I got a Medela  Freestyle breast pump at Target for $94!!! Its normally priced at $379.99. I am so happy that I don't have to rent one from the hospital now.

Other than that, there's not much new to update.... I am getting pretty close to finishing the nursery but I am having a hard time deciding what to put on the walls.

  • 36 weeks today!!   1 more week until full term and I can't tell you how happy I am.  I've still been having contractions off and on, and just been really crampy when I'm on my feet for more than a few minutes.  I'm supposed to be staying off my feet, but I'm having a really hard time with it.  We've got pretty much everything done and ready - backs are packed and everything.  Sleep has become a thing of the past and my back and hips are really bothering me more and more.  It really irritates me that my H can sleep through all my tossing and turning and trips to the bathroom.  I'm secretly a little happy that I woke him up when I was playing games on my iPhone at 3am this morning and the volume was REALLY loud.  Oops.

OMG, I have been swelling too! Some days are worse than others. Sometimes my fingers look like sausages and I can't even close my hand into a fist. Forget wearing my wedding rings! :( Then there are my cankles! And the top of my feet are puffy and my toes look like sausages. I am not a thin person normally, but my wrists, fingers, ankles, and toes are normally skinny. I hate this swelling.

Yay! Almost there! I haven't felt any contractions but I have been having some cramping. A couple weeks ago it was very mild but it's getting more intense now. I have a dr appt on Wednesday so I will ask about it then. I wonder how log I will last at work...I have 11-13 more nights on the floor (over the next 4-5 weeks). We'll see! I seem to be saying that a lot lately.

  • I can't believe Mason and Audrey are 5 months.  Last night, we met with our photographer to do a Valentines day mini-session.  Poor Audrey was FREEZING because I had her in a tutu skirt.  I never even considered the weather when I chose their outfits, and I didn't have time to pick something else.

Audrey is such a sweet little princess but she is really far behind on her milestones.  We took her to our pedi last week and he felt that she just has low muscle tone.  I was freaking out that it might be CP.  She will not bear any weight on her legs, she holds them close to her body.  Our pedi, is very conservative which is great for everyday well-visits, but I am concerned about Audrey so we might take her for a second opinion.  So people I have mentioned my concerns to recommended PT.  *Sigh* I hope we can help her to hit those milestones.

I haven't had the swelling in my feet, but I've definitely noticed it more and more in my fingers.  It makes my fingers so sore to even bend when they are really swollen.  I have good days and bad days with my rings.  My wedding band is 1/2 size bigger than my e-ring so I can still wear that some days.  I wore them both for our maternity pics and it was murder trying to get them off after.

The only thing keeping me going is that I want to have my 12 weeks off with the baby as opposed to wasting them sitting at home. Sure, I end up in tears most nights from the pain and my sudden ability to not be able to handle stress, but I am keeping my eye on the prize! I honestly feel like I have no rights as a pregnant woman working in a high acuity ICU.

I go through the same thing with my rings. I never got around to getting my Ering resized, so it still fits but today I can't get my wedding band past my knuckle. I can't even fit my finger in between my toes to get out sock lint before my showers, lol. They are so swollen, if I try... it hurts like hell. All of my Pink cropped sweatpants are also leaving rings around my legs :(

  • I am so jealous of your sleep! I wake up at least 10 times and that is not an exaggeration. I pee 4-5 times and the rest I have to change positions. And changing positions makes me have to pee half the time. The last two weeks have been the worst. I actually think I may get more sleep when the babies come, isn't that absurd? I am also very impressed that you are still working with such a physically demanding job. But I am sure you will enjoy every minute of time off with LO!

I heard the Pitocin was worse because your contractions can come on really slow or really fast. I guess everyone has a different experience, but I am definitely going to do a little research!

Blossom - I am so over the moon excited for you!

Sorry about the sausage toes!! Can you wear regular shoes still??

Even my tennis shoes are cutting into my feet. I don't know what I will do if it gets any worse. lol.... Flip flops in 50 degree weather?

Lol...don't judge. Last Tuesday I wore a cute flowy dress and pretty cardigan to the Straz Center with flip flops. I have been wearing them for a couple of weeks. I did buy a few pairs of very comfy flats in a size up a couple months ago, but I grew out of them!

  • Thank you to everyone who has been thinking of me and will be thinking of me this week!! H and I are very excited, as I am sure you can tell. I appreciate the well wishes! :)

My doctor says that I will more than likely have Pitocin, because my cervix is ripe(dont know what that means), she also said the likely hood of a csection are very slim, since I am already dilating with no problems.

Oh no! I thought it would be better! :( I guess I just have to wait and see how things progress...

Are you trying to freak me out!? Didn't you read that I am getting Cervidil tomorrow night!?  :) I didn't hear it hurt though, I am going to look that up!! I heard the Pitocin was worse because your contractions can come on really slow or really fast. I guess everyone has a different experience, but I am definitely going to do a little research!

Sorry, I wasn't trying to scare you. You will be ok. I have to get Pitocin, and who knows, my labor could end up worse than yours, everyone's body reacts different to each medication. Stop
