Friends?

Hi Everyone!

My other half and I relocated to Dallas from Miami, Florida about 4 months ago. <3 We absolutely love it here- and plan on buying a house in the next year or two. Rich and I always try to go out so we can explore the city. Even though we have a blast together; right now it feels like the only thing we're missing are some quality friends.

Any suggestions where we can go and meet other young couples with similar interests/ambitions? Are any of you out there in the same boat? I never thought it would be this difficult to make friends! Yikes! Please help. :)

Thanks,

Veronica

Re: Friends?

  • I know exactly how you feel. I moved here a year and a half ago and have found it very hard to meet new people because we don't go out to clubs or attend any colleges in the area. I'm not sure where to go but maybe some local ladies can help us out!
  • If you attend church, see if they have some small groups you can join. Almost all of our couple friends are people we met when we decided to just dive in a join a small group bible study at our church.

If there are others your age at work, invite them over for dinner. My husband always hates it when I set him up on "play dates" with husbands he doesn't know, but we've actually made some good friends this way. Dinner, cards or a board game, is a great way to get to know each other.

  • I'm not sure either as most of my friends around here are from h/s or college, but I just wanted to say welcome!
  • I'm in the same boat!  DH and I moved here from AL last year and it's tough making friends.  Welcome!
  • Yes, I also know what it is like to live in a new place and how hard it can be to make new friends. My husband and I actually just moved here from St. Louis, MO. We don't have any family or friends here yet and to top it off my husband is gone a lot, he is a pilot for American Eagle and he goes on one to two day trips. So, I am here alone and it would be nice to have someone that I could go and hang out with while he is gone. But I do enjoy it here and am excited to go and explore Texas.
  • what carla said about "play dates" :D with people from work.  or plan a gtg with some girls here - make a date to go see a tourist spot like the world aquarium or billy bob's.
  • man, i could've written this post myself. i am sooo lonely and so is my husband! let's plan a GTG! it is really hard to meet people. seems like there are quite a few of us in the same boat so maybe we could plan a neutral place?
  • I agree!  Great idea!
  • I think we should have ourselves a play date! I am in the same boat and it would be nice to meet some new ladies around here. Who wants to go to the aquarium? It's amazing and it would be nice since it's cold. And any of you girls can PM me if you get lonely... I know it sucks to be in a new place and not know anybody. I have been here for about 6 mo. and still haven't met too many new people.
  • I am a little late to respond, but I am glad this post came up.  My DH and I were just talking about this subject this past weekend.  We have lived here for a couple of years and thought maybe it was just us that felt that way.

I joined this site recently just for this reason.
