When I was 6 months old, my Mom's grandmother was visiting and they had my ears pierced. My mom was hesitant to do it because she knew my dad would be upset, but my grandmother was quite a force for being a little old Italian lady. My dad was upset when he saw them, but he got over it.

I had my second holes and the third hole on my left ear done as a teenager.

My parents had my ears pierced as a baby. I didn't mind it growing up until I started playing in sports. I could never have them in while playing, and it became a hassle to take them out and put them back in several days a week. So, I stopped putting them back in.

I used to dislike earrings anyway, and my mom had to pin me down occasionally to put an earring in to keep the holes open (she didn't want to have them close up and have to get re-pierced later if I changed my mind).

Now, I only wear earrings for super special occasions because they just aren't comfortable for me (like wearing a new rings; something you have to get used to and do regularly).

I didn't respond to the earlier poll, but I don't plan to pierce my daughter's (or son's) ears as a baby. However, I have nothing against it and s/he is welcome to make the decision on their own.

My parents pierced mine when I was a baby, as do most people in our culture. Haven't decided what to do with LO yet.

16. And I felt like such a rebel. In my family/religion jewelery was a big no-no. My dad even got my mother an engagement watch instead of a ring. So getting my ears pierced was kind of a big deal (even though my parents weren't around to say anything or care, my extended family was, and it was a big deal for them). I hardly even wear earrings either. Just enough so that the holes don't close up (though they have been close many times. . .)

I was 12 or 13 the first time. I didn't take care of them got the back of an earring stuck in the hole and had to have a doctor remove it. He told me no more earrings for at least two years. I didn't get them re-pierced until I was like 16 I think.

Interesting that everyone has said yes!

First holes around 5. But there was some issue with them so I had to let them close up. Then I got them done again around 9 I think. Second holes around 11/12, third around 13 and 4th plus cartilage around 14 or 15.

When I was around 20/21 I let the 3rd and 4th close up. I still think I'd be able to put earrings in my second holes.

I was 13 when I got the first set. My mom would have let me earlier (my sister got hers done when she was like 6), but I didn't want them until then. I got my second set when I was 15 or so, and my tragus on both sides when I was 19.

Oh yes, that was similar for me, too. I got my hair permed at 12. Now I wonder if I actually got my ears pierced at 12 instead of 13. I think so. I suppose you could call perming my hair mutilation, too, since it never was straight again!
