Am I the last person to get an iPhone?
I just got the $49 iPhone 3GS and love it already. I always play with DH's so he'll be glad I can play with my own now! It has a pretty blue case. I think we're entangled in a mad love affair already!
Favorite apps I should download? Free ones please. Or if they are REALLY REALLY good I'm open to paying a few bucks. Oooh...does anyone use a running tracking app? I searched but got overwhelmed with the choices.
I am SO 2008, wow.

How come?
We are trying to decide if we should stay with t-mobile and get new droids (we both have 2 1/2 year old g1s right now, and are in need of something new) or jump ship and get iphones from at&t.

Wow! Thanks everyone for the app ideas!!!
I always told myself I didn't need a fancy phone. When the iPhones first came out and were a few hundred dollars there was NO way I wanted to spend that on a phone for me. I can justify $49 though. And I got the most basic data plan. We have wireless at home at the office so I can use that and not eat up data.
I was really behind the times though - I didn't have any type of smart phone. I had a super basic slide phone that basically just made calls and that was it.
Forever whatever reason DH and I are Apple loyal so this phone was a no brainer for me. Now I just have to get used to the feel of talking on what feels like a huge slab of a phone! :-)
I don't have an iPhone, but I have a droid that I got shortly before Christmas. I didn't think I needed a smart phone, either, but now that I have one, I love it.
Some of my favorite apps:
Weather Channel
Kare 11
Out of Milk (a grocery list maker)
Groupon
Living Social
Google Maps
Barcode scanner
Facebook
IMDb
Movies (the flixster one ... it will connect with your Netflix account, but also give you local theater info, movie times, etc.)
Open Table
Urban Spoon
Mr. Sammy Dog
For numerous reason:
1. They don't have a great track record for being environmentally friendly, and even though they've been challenged to make a more "greener" phone they continue to refuse. Sony, Motorola, and Nokia are already on board and creating green phones. In Europe its a requirement but not here yet.
2. I am not an apple diehard...I own a macbook pro, and I use it for what it's good at, but I also own a PC and side by side they aren't all that different, and I don't see the "clear" advantages of having one over the other.
3. The majority of the apps cost money, and I am not willing to pay for that sort of thing.
4. Droids have taken over the market share as far as cell phone's go, and they're well positioned to take even more of the market share with the phones they have coming, and the new android OS that's coming out later this year.
5. The verizon iPhone is an old model and not worth the time. Verizon won't be getting the iPhone 5 until sometime next year, so why waste my money on something that's already out of date??
6. Products that do everything, do nothing well, nuf said.
Guess I have a pretty strong opinion...but I am so tired of all the iPhone talk and excitement...off to go watch the you tube video to make me feel better.
Well, despite your best efforts Janell my parade has not been rained on.
Although I tend to agree with your statement #6 when it comes to those all-in-one printer/fax/copier machines. I've never used one that did any of those things well!
Kiz I wasn't trying to rain on you're parade sorry about that...I get really fired up about the iPhone stuff because everyone who wants one only wants them because everyone else has one...
I am not one for the herd mentality...find something you like, do the research, ask around, and then get it. If it happens to be an iPhone then so be it, but I just feel like a lot of the iPhone people are just trying to "keep up with the jones'" kwim.
I don't have one, and I don't have a burning desire to get one. My droid is cheaper and I don't have to switch carriers, and I love my carrier. I don't really have anything against them though.
I also love my all in one printer, and it rocks, I have to say.
Haha, I know, I was teasin'. I'm actually very much not one for the herd mentality either. I got this one because it was only $49 and I already know how to use it since I've played with DH's for so long. :-) And we do like Apple products. But not enough to rush out and get the latest and greatest thing for hundreds of dollars. That is just silly to me. It's cool for about a week and then is already obsolete. The one thing I really don't understand is the iPad. I would much rather have a small laptop and an iPhone.
I also don't get the iPad either...seems like they were just trying to capitalize on the growing excitement over Netbooks...then all of a sudden a bunch of other companies (Samsung, and Motorola) started launching "tablet PC's". I just don't get it, and now netbooks are dying and these are taking over the world.
I just got addicted to Angry Birds.
Also Kiz, if it hasn't been mentioned yet, you have to turn off Java in the phone's settings to post here.
Thanks for the tip. I think I will try to only Nest from an actual computer. There are some things I just don't like doing on a tiny screen. Like Facebook. I don't like the condensed phone version. But it works in a pinch. :-)
I tried Angry birds and didn't get hooked. Not one bit. Maybe I need to give it another try? Or maybe I don't need another thing to be hooked on:-)
Congrats Kiz!!
I love all my Apple products. Every Apple computer I have owned has outlasted every PC I have owned. I have used them for a long time (10+ years) and will stand by them.
I have to say I get really really irked when I people lump every Apple user into a "pack" and assume they're just following what's cool and haven't done any research. Frustrating.
I hate to hijack your post Kiz, but I had to say something. I just got a new MacBook Pro around Christmastime and every time I've tried to say that I was excited about it to someone, my parade gets rained on. Sick of it.
I love my iPhone, I have owned a Blackberry and an Android device. I really enjoy the user interface of the iPhone much more.
As for apps:
Free: Amazon, Target, Groupon, Starbucks Mobile Card, Kindle, Mint.
Paid: Awesome Note, BeejiveIM, Docs to Go.
I have a lot of apps....maybe its time to clean this thing out again....
Agreed...I had the same thing happen to me when I got my MBP...and the person raining on my parade was my own DH. That is the only one that bothered me because well I have to live with him...who cares about anyone else.
That's true. I don't expect anyone to care. I think it was probably more the friends that saw it and went "ick, why would you want one of those". Don't get me wrong, I am definitely not the kind of person that goes waving things in others faces saying look what I got. I just get offended when people assume I haven't done my research and to them, I obviously bought the wrong product. Buy what you like, screw the opinions, but even people with the thickest skins get bothered sometimes by adverse comments to something they enjoy.

Oops. I have to remember that downloading apps eats up data usage. I have the basic data plan for now so I better take it easy!!

I love my iPhone. I got the iPhone 4 for Christmas. Like you, I played with DH's iPhone all the time, and then started using his 3GS when he got a 4. Anyway, I love it. I too always thought I didn't need a fancy phone. And I don't really NEED it, but I love having it.
I didn't care for Angry Birds either. I like more puzzle type stuff.
