I don't get the Gaga love
Re: I don't get the Gaga love
Yeah but people said that about Beatles, NKOTB, BSB, and NSYNC fans. There's been a nut or two (or 200) for all of them. Today's it's Bieber, tomorrow they'll go OCD on someone else.
Blasphemy!?!? Haha.
You keep Gaga, I'll keep Jason. Everyone wins!
Very true. Maybe it's because I'm getting older but it seems like they "go OCD" younger and younger! Man...am I already a crotchity old woman??
:-)
I am not sure I understand why you think that she needs to admit to anything. Does that make her better in your eyes if she admits something that people are assuming?
Just because the songs are somewhat similar doesn't make it a copy. There are millions of songs out there that sound somewhat similar to each other.
I don't think that it is fair to be judgemental and accusing of someone of something unless you have 100% the facts.
I was crazy about NKOTB when I was 10. I'm sure if I was 10 today I would love Justin Bieber, but since I'm old I'm okay with not being a fan of his. Little girls are weird, but a Bieber obsession seems pretty harmless.
Kiz, you are TOTALLY a bitter old hag of a woman. Let me fetch your cane and "KEEP OFF MY LAWN!" sign.
You know this whole Gaga/Madonna thing reminds me of Vanilla Ice and the little "tings" in his Ice Ice Baby song. LOL! But I do wonder if the similarities were intentional as well.
I always get into these originality discussions with DH about rappers. A long time ago we got into it big time over some song (I really don't remember what it was) where a rapper had sampled something and I said something about the lack of originality in the music. DH held to his opinion that rappers are original, and I said they'd be more original if they didn't sample so much work from other people. But even Kanye included in his songs something about "don't give me nothing I can't sample," so at least he owns up to it.
And you're judging my judging. We all judge.
See the bolded part above.
And does anyone ever have the facts 100%? Rarely. Yet people judge on much less, such is life.
Darn it...now I have Madonna in my head. :-)
I was crazy about NKOTB too but not crazy enough to send death threats and hate mail to my favorite members flavor of the week...like those Bieber fanatics do to who ever he's seen kissing or hugging, or canoodling with this week.
Young girls will obsess about someone no matter what. Who do you think would be a better target of their obsession? The kid is a good singer, that's a fact. The teeny bopper songs they have him singing aren't great, but that's not up to him. I think he is a much better target than someone older or completely without merit.
I don't foresee a future where a bunch of young girls will have posters of nobel prize winners tacked to their walls.
I can't believe anyone cares about any of this. Stop reading Perez if you don't want to hear about these people.

And then there is THIS girl. :-) Poor thing and her heartache...

I couldn't agree more!
It's obvious she is successful in getting conversations going regardless of the opinions about her.
I must be out of touch. I don't think I would ever hear about her unless I read about Grammy gossip or something.
Judging
Coll. At least Dawn is more out of touch than me. I win.
Judging
I can't seem to avoid her! Is she stalking me??
FWIW, I stopped reading Perez after it's clear they hired someone who didn't pass 3rd grade grammar and spelling to write the posts. Eep!
She is always watching.
I still have Perez in my Google Reader but it takes an act of desperation, on a very slow work day to get me to open that thread.
Judging
i thought perez was a dude. see how much i know?
Actually, I saw all these previews for the Bieber movie, and I thought "What? He died?" I mean, why else would there be a movie about him? Shows how out of touch I am.
A lot of my students LOVE Bieber. And Twilight. I'm always pushing Judy Blume on them.
Oh dear. I wonder how much she'll regret this later in life?
Don't get me started on Twilight tattoos....
This is exactly why I steer clear of top 40 radio. Some of my friends like to put on KDWB and such and play make Jenny guess the song. I usually have no idea these days. I've seen some of Justin Bieber's YouTube videos, I agree that he's somewhat talented, but he certainly doesn't seem to pick songs that showcase that talent.
I guess I'm old and crotchety, but I'll stick to The Current and MPR Classical thanks.
Me too! Except I DO like Jason Matheson on MyTalk107.1 and once in awhile Lori & Julia but Julia's voice and mispronunciations drive me batty.
OMG Jason's totally a geek. Hah. Love it.
YES. I don't know what it is.. but Jason Mraz makes me feel slimey. Like he's schmoozing me but he's just doing it for show. Blech. I loved the time that SNL parodied him, Jack Johnson, Dave Matthews and oddly enough, Ozzy Osbourne. SNL's parody hit it right on the head - even though I do like Jack Johnson and Dave Matthews (well, and obviously Ozzy too, but you can't compare them!) I understand what the appeal should be about Mraz, but I just can't get on board.
To whomever wrote about listening to The Current - YES. It's what is on my radio 99% of the time - Joe and I usually do a pop/top 40 station for about an hour on the weekend to stay in the know with what's mainstream popular, but once we start hearing songs played more than once, it's back to MPR..

Missy, Judy Blume is great, but there is a lot more fantastic literature out there, I'd be happy to hook you up with some awesome author names!
ETA: and I still don't know what a perez is.
Behold...Perez Hilton, gossip blogger extraordinaire.
