Bacon

Kind of a random post but I was just wondering how you cook your bacon?

Microwave?

Oven?

Stove top?

We always bake it.It seems to make less of a mess that way.

Re: Bacon

  • Generally we buy turkey bacon and it's often pre-cooked, so it's microwaved.
    image
  • I usually do it on the stove.  Though I do like the bacon that comes individually packaged that you can microwave, since there is no mess there.

Funny you should post about this.  I literally took the last bite of my bacon this morning, pulled up TN, and found your post.

  • I saw the title and went mmm bacon lol...

We stove cook it. The pre-cooked stuff is too expensive.

  • I just ate some delicious bacon! We make ours on the stove top but I am thinking that next time I will try baking it as Rachael Ray always suggests.

  • lol we had turkey bacon this morning is why I posted this. Mike and I always go back and forth about how to cook it and my mom always cooked it in the oven so its just second nature for me too. Plus it leaves space on the stove top to cook pancakes on the griddle and use the other burners for eggs. AND no mess from the grease!

  • Usually in the microwave, but last time we made it was in the oven.  WAY less messy!  I don't like using the stovetop b/c the whole house ends up stinking like bacon.

  • on the griddle, followed by the eggs so they get  a nice baconny taste

  • we always make it on the George Foreman grill. it makes clean up a breeze! and makes the bacon more crispy just the way I like it!!!

  • I told Matt about this post and his response was, "Did you tell them that the way you cook it is by having your husband do it?"  Yes, it's true.  I've been spoiled with breakfast in bed twice this week!

    lol :)

We do stovetop.  And by we I mean Ross :P

Ross is kind of a food snob, and would beat me with the package if I brought precooked bacon home.  His new thing is nitrate-free bacon, which means when we go south to see his folks, we buy like $50 of bacon.  Gah.  But the closest Whole Foods is about three hours away (on the way to his parents).  So we just break it into smaller portions and freeze it.

  • I've never done anything but stove top!

Ugh I hate that. I forget where we went, but a few weeks ago on the weekend, I made bacon & eggs & toast for brunch, and then Clinton & I went out to run errands. We got home a few hours later & the apartment still smelled like I had JUST cooked it. It was like bacon central. Grossed me out. But Clinton's exact response was, "What's wrong with that? It smells good." Sick. I had to light like three candles & crack a window.

Wait - how could your house STINK like bacon?  Bacon smells like heaven.

    :-)

We usually microwave ours.  No mess, as the paper towels soak up the grease.  1 minute per slice usually does it.

ETA:  I don't mean precooked bacon, I mean real regular bacon.  That precooked shizz freaks me out.

I didn't mean precooked bacon either.  There is individually packed microwaveable bacon that is not precooked, and it is actually pretty good.  I got the precooked stuff by mistake once, and eww!

  • On the stove top.

How does one cook it in the oven? I do remember seeing something on Food Network where they put brown sugar on it (I want to say Alton Brown, but I'm not sure), but I've never tried it like that before.

  • We (er... Steve) always cook it stove top or on the griddle. And I have never tried pre-cooked bacon. But we like to stay from processed foods so we (er... Steve) usually make everything from scratch.

This.  I don't like any of that bacon that has been artificially smoked either.  Sometimes we microwave the bacon, but usually only if we're in a rush.

Rachael Ray says that you take a jelly roll pan (aka a cookie sheet with sides) and put a cooling rack or your broiler pan inside the other pan put the bacon on the cookie sheet and bake. I will have to test it out.

Yep! That way there's somewhere for the grease to go.

I've cooked it on like 450 for 10 minutes or so until it looks done...it's amazing!

  • Am I the only person on this board (or on the planet???) that doesn't like bacon?

We go to breakfast every Saturday and I always take a shower once we get home because I can't stand smelling like bacon all day.  Ick.

    Haha!  I know.

I've actually never liked bacon.  I always hated when my parents cooked breakfast on the weekends because the whole house would smell like it.

In fact, I really don't eat any kind of pork because it totally grosses me out for some reason...no idea why.  Well, other than sausage, which I always convince myself is beef sausage :)

  • It's not funny at all.  It SHOULD be a hot topic.  Because it's awesome.
