NER: S/O What games do you/your H or have you played?
Let's air our dorkery.
We have a Wii, an XBox 360, and a PS3. We love Rock Band (2, now). We also play a great deal of Smash Brothers.
We have no games for the PS3 yet, but I'm giving DH one for his birthday. We have it because it's our Blu-Ray player.
I also love the Sims 2.
DH has totally dragged me down. I have been known to play WoW.
*hangs head in shame*
That is the first time I've ever admitted it. Even though tons of people play video games, there's something about an MMORPG that just makes you a total geek. But I cling to the fact that Mila Kunis also plays, and she's super cute.

Re: NER: S/O What games do you/your H or have you played?
We have:
An old school Nintendo, a Super Nintendo, an N64, a GameCube, a Wii, a Gameboy, and a DS, and a PS2.
We play a ton of wii tennis and wii bowling.
Aside from that, we play Super Mario Galaxy, MarioKart. We also have Super Paper Mario, WiiBoogie, Super Smash Brothers, The Godfather, Bully, and a few more I never play so I don't remember what they're called.
We have a Wii, and I love WiiFit. Hula Hooping is the best! We also like Super Mario Galaxy and the Simpsons game.
We have a PS2, but it's packed away. We used to play OddWorld in college a LOT. Also had a good Simpsons game for that.
We have an Xbox 360 and a Wii. WE also have a GameCube that's been "retired." We were fine with the GameCube because we don't play games THAT often, but I wanted Rock Band so we got the Xbox.
E plays a lot of Xbox Live games, like Worms, N+ and a few others. WE are big fans of the Lego games: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and we'll get Batman when we finish Indiana Jones.
For the Wii, we have Boom Blox, which is a really fun game that Steven Spielberg created. And WiiFit, which is not getting used as much as it should!
Erik was a game designer for many years, so I am lucky that he's not an addicted gamer. He has admitted that he was afraid of a WoW addiction, and that's why he's never started.
I think we both played Atari back in the day.
H used to go to a Hump Day Halo party back in Omaha. ?That's probably the last time he touched a game. ?I can't remember the last time for me.?
We don't have any gaming systems, though I do love me some guitar hero and wouldn't be opposed to a wii (particularly wii fit).
H plays pacman on his computer as well as online poker
I play sudoku on my phone all the time.
We play poker sometimes.
Further evidence of H's nerdiness:
*He can solve 4x4 rubicks cubes in a relatively short period of time (<1 minute)
*He's been known to update medical entries on wikipedia.
This (thenest) is pretty much the extent of my nerdiness. That, and I'm really skilled at stalking on facebook and using the google.
geez! thats alot!!
We have PS3 and Dh traded the good games from PS2 for this so we only have PS3 games now. He plays all the GTA games and "GTA type" games. Metal of Honor, The godfather one, etc. I have to help him play because he can't drive without me looking at the map. So we have like virtual car fights, lol.
He's now playing the "new" GTA with the Russian dude. He also likes the "street" basketball games and those doopey golfing games with the silly characters. Hot Shots?
I've played some PS2 games in the past and was into nintendo back in the day. I beat one of the earlier - oh god - it was all girly and had a dude and his pet ferret who was actually his human friend under a spell. That was a PS2 game. I only like to play the games where you collect gems and "bop" enemies as opposed to shooting them lol.
Is it sad that I wish they still had the 'joined' date listed on your profile so everyone could know I've been on there since April 2004? (For the record, I remember this a) b/c it used to be listed, but mostly b) b/c it was right after my college sweetheart and I first started dating)
Video games wise, we have the Wii. We LOVED Paper Mario and Mario Galaxy for it, as well as Mario cart.
Board games, it's scrabble or die. lol.
My family plays cards alot, so I've been trying to teach DH cribbage but he's not interested =(
We just got a Wii and want to get the Wii Fit. DH has some kind of game console that he never uses--I think it's a PS, but I'm not sure.
We both play first-person-shooters on our PCs --actually, I play one and he dabbles in several. Yeah--we revel in our nerdery.
We have a Wii, the little travel nintendo (sad that I can't remember what it's called right now) and a PS3. I'm pretty sure we have some older systems, too - original Nintendo, gamecube maybe? Honestly I don't remember anymore! I know for a fact that we've owned every.single.systme at some point. We just bought Wii Ski, but are busy with our move and haven't even opened it yet.
Our current fave is drunk Sorry. Honestly, Sorry is the best game ever! It's easy and designed really well so the game is almost always close. Add drinking and you've got a real winner!
Anything you can achieve through hard work, you could also just buy.
We have a PS3 and a Wii. If it were up to my husband, we would have all three.
We joke that the PS3 is his and the Wii is mine. He is the only one that plays the PS3 (except for Guitar Hero, and Lego star wars). He has a man cave with a 32" LCD TV so that he can play and I can watch tv/nest/play my games in peace. He mostly plays first person shooter games. SOCOM and Resistance are the 2 biggest right now, I think. He also plays a lot of sports games. Hockey and Baseball mostly. He has a bunch of buddies he met playing online that he plays with... it is dorky to the max, but hey, he isn't out drinking or gambling, or whatever, so Im cool with it.
I have a not so small obsession with Sims 2 on the PC, although it has been pushed aside the last couple of months in favor of election related TV and inter-webz. I also play some wii... Usually of the mario variety. Oh, and the Wii fit, of course. I would play a lot more GH if H would have bought it for the Wii, but I am not willing to pay the $$ for the wii version.
We do play Mario Kart, Mario party, and several other wii games together as well.
my read shelf:
I was a player of Starcraft and Warcraft II (real warcraft). I like RTS (real time strategy) games and I have warned Pescalita that when Starcraft II finally comes out she will likely lose me to it for a while. We had a Nintendo 64 that was rarely played - mostly Mario Cart 64 and F-Zero X (Racing). We got a Wii for Christmas last year. I love Mario and Sonic go to the Olympics.
When I was in the dorms I played occaisional Counterstrike LAN games with other guys in my dorm - old school FPS (first person shooter).
We don't own any consoles even though I've been dying for a Wii. DH says (and he is right) that we are never home to play it, so why bother. When he did have a Playstation, he only played sports games.
As for myself, I like to play brickbreaker on my blackberry when I am bored to tears in a meeting or on the train.
Haha! Try again with tequila!
Anything you can achieve through hard work, you could also just buy.
And here comes the girl with the sci-fi reference in her screen name to outgeek you all....
We have an annual game of Risk. It takes about a week. I'm 2-0.
If we want a card game, its usually Chrononauts. We bought the standard deck 2 years ago at the scifi con, and last year we bought the Early American History expansion pack. The object is either to get back to your own timeline by changing history to reflect your reality, or to collect artifacts (like the Ark of the Covenant, lost Shakespearean plays, or my favorite, a videotape of the creation of the universe [on betamax]). BTW, the link above takes you to the homepage for the game, which has a page of lesson plans. I think this is the defining characteristic of geek gaming.
The other game we play, also from Looney Labs, is Fluxx. We bought the original, then the Zombie Expansion pack (because we couldn't find Stoner Fluxx, which DH remembers from college, but the company decided it was in their best interest to discontinue). It comes in Spanish, Dutch, Japanese, Jewish, Christian, Family, and Eco versions. I'm excited to find that there is now a Monty Python Expansion. DH will have a very happy Christmas.
I'm so playing Chrononauts tonight....
we love us some guitar hero. friends of ours have rock band so we have been known to have ridiculous "jam sessions" when we head over to their place. i realize this is equal parts pathetic and awesome. otherwise, we play scrabble from time to time. oh and we love to get peeps together for card parties.
ok, and H will absoutely kill me for admitting this on a public message board, but he plays world of warcraft. hardcore. lol. his brother lives in austin and so they like WOW cuz they can play it together. i think their geekery is sorta cute -- as if they are kids again battling over atari or something.
besides i can't blame H. WOW is his crack. the nest is mine. so we're even.
We also have a Wii. We bought it the day it came out (waited in line and everything). Do we win the geek prize now? We actually haven't played it much lately, but I just started playing Super Mario Galaxy again last night. I'm almost through the game, so I'm motivated to finish!
DH hates board games. He refuses to play them, because he's super competitive and hates to lose. If I beat him at a game, he'll get pouty and refuse to play with me anymore. He's very laid-back with 99% of other things, so I don't understand this behavior at all!
DH also enjoyed Starcraft and Warcraft. I think they're boring, but I did play Diablo II once.
OMG DH also played Counterstrike and Quake in college with the dorm guys. I HATED when he did that.
Gypsy, maybe I've played with your H! It's crack. I am a total casual player, like I log in maybe twice a week. I'll usually play for a few hours on the weekend. It's a nice escape
I will never admit it to anyone IRL. Dh always asks why I'm out and proud about my message board habits or the fact that I love Rock Band, but keep WoW in the closet. It's because I know who people think play it. They think it's all losers. But I swear, we're not!
I
LOL. bunny that's hilarious! H has the same anxiety about warcraft. but really, it's cool. i mean, is it any more strange than the nest!? combine asinine obama-is-a-muslim forwards, inane OhNoVA drama and (@)-related placenta talk and it's is enough to make the geekery of warcraft look oh so tame.
