  • We are techincally Catholic ( baptized, married in the church) but we pick and choose what we like and leave the rest (like a buffet). Thats what my dad has always called it and i think it makes sense.  For example, my best friend is a lesbian and that is not accepted by the church so I choose not to take that part.

    Just what we call it.

Gotcha, that's what I thought but I wanted to know for sure. My DH was raised Catholic, went to Catholic school, etc but he hasn't practiced it as an adult. I'm the same way with my denomination.

That's interesting. Did you have a reason for this or was it just a random quirk?

Drew and I met online and talked for a month before meeting in person. He was kind of skeptical when I mentioned I was a redhead because he'd never really been attracted to redheads before. He was happy when mine turned out to not be carroty orange. Ironically every guy I'd dated before had a "thing" for redheads.

I think the Italian thing stems from having bad experiences with my ex's and chalking it up to the firey temper that many Italians seem to have. DH has it too, but at least he's not an a-hole like the others.

As far as the Irish thing goes, I think that was a weird quirk we both had. Always found Irish people attractive.

That's funny because the Irish are known for fiery tempers, too. Wink I can attest to this with my DH and his family (they are 2/3 Irish). DH has learned to take out his aggression on people on TV rather than people in person. He's never temperamental with me.

  • I'm really enjoying reading these. Thanks H. =)

1 - DH and I both went to state schools for college.

2 - Our parents were married within 6 weeks of each other and both sets are still happily married.

3 - We both love to gamble at casinos. Vegas is our favorite vacation.

4 - I am a celebrity information whore and DH is a sports information whore. We'd be hard to beat at a trivia game on those topics.

5 - We are both Niner and Giants die-hards (couldn't have married anyone without these interests, lol)

6 - (to buck the trend here) I'm a Lefty and DH is a Righty....he hopes (outloud) that DS is a Lefty like me because he believes it is a major sports advantage.

    7 - We both celebrate 1/2 birthdays.

8 - Both of our families talk about the next meal at the current one.

9 - I was ready to get married way before he was. He was ready to have kids way before I was.

10 - We met through our roommates who were dating. That'll be 8 years ago this month.

I know, it's fun, huh? Drew got a kick out of my list, too. We added a couple more. Like my maiden name means fire and his last name means desk in the same language. DH is a total sports info nut. He knows all kind of trivia. Yours and mine could probably have quite the contest. He told me he could never marry a cat person and that his wife would have to love dogs. I actually do like cats but I kind of overdosed on cats as a kid so now I like dogs more. DH thinks a major key to his success as a pitcher was being a southpaw. Big Smile

One of my grandmas was named Marion, too. And spelled that way (which is actually the male version, Marian is the female one). How funny! We've never been to an amusement park together either. But that's really because DH's in a wheelchair. He can't do roller-coasters anymore. Same reason we've never been skiing.

Marion is a common firstname in French for girls. I read it either came from the Hebrew Miryam or is from the name Marie. But I didn't know about Marian: I read it could be for boys or girls, and that the clearer female version of Marian would be Marianne. The name Marion is starting to grow on me, though :)

In English Marion is the traditional male version. But maybe people started to use Marion for girls when they discovered how it was spelled in French. Maid Marian doesn't ring a bell? Yeah, it's the female version for sure. It's funny to think that names like Hilary, Ashley, Shelby, etc... be were traditionally boy names before they were used as girl names.
  • I only knew Maid Marian as Lady Marianne, not Marian.

How interesting. I didn't know some names like Hilary, Ashley, etc were traditionally boy names before!

Yeah, you'll stumble on them in older literature a lot. Those names were common for boys in the South even more recently (maybe they still are).
  • 1. We are both the oldest children in our families and each have one sibling that is four years younger than us.

    2. DH and my mom were both born on August 16 (different years of course) and I thought DH was joking with me when he first told me his birthday.

    3. We were married on my birthday.

    4. We are opposition political parties and somehow survive elections without too much drama.

    5. We both love classic cars. When we met, I was driving a 68 Mustang which is what first caught DH's eyes (then he saw my boobs and had to talk to me). I didn't even know what a Hudson car was until I met DH, and now I know too much about them.

    6. We have both suffered the sudden loss of a parent since we met which is an unfortunate bond we share.

    7. We both have Portuguese grandmas that are awesome and get along great with each other.

    8. DH took me to my homecoming dance and senior ball and attended my high school and college graduations. I guess we have known each other way too long.

    9. Our song is "Shook Me All Night Long" by AC/DC because that was the first song played by AC/DC at their concert in 2000, the first concert we attended together. We also share a love of heavy metal and rock music.

    10. We are both huge 49er fans and used to enjoy going to the games until the tickets and parking became way too expensive for our budget.

Drew's dad's birthday was Aug 16 and my mom's is Aug 15th. An my best friend growing up was born on Aug 16th. It seems like a very popular birthday! #4 is true for us and was also true of IL actually. The more I know about them as a couple the more we seem to be like them as a couple.
