$$ spent on gas (monthly) clicky
I think I just want to feel better about the insane amount of money that we spend on gas a month. Please humor me with this clicky poll.[Poll]
Re: $$ spent on gas (monthly) clicky
Yah. It's annoying to think about. We spend $500/mth total. Chris spends about $300 & I'm the other $200.. I use mint.com to track so I know that is an accurate number.. I'm over it.
I just looked at last month's bill and we spent $160.54. Since I was out of town for work quite a bit that is slightly lower than normal. I'd say in the $160-$200 range; thought hat number is quickly going to rise.
ETA: I work from home. H has a 15-20 min drive downtown morning and night.

Chris used to have a company truck, that he could bring home and drive anywhere.. I miss those days.
It's nice that DH's Jeep has no miles on it and he can save on gas. We can't drive his car anywhere, it's marked so I'm not allowed to ride in it. I think he also has to be in some sort of uniform to drive in it too so he can't just take it for errands (not that he would anyway- he's shy about the whole thing
).

You poor people. I don't even know what gas costs around here these days, and it's glorious. Ignorance is bliss. I heart public transportation!
I dread the day we move back to reality and have to get cars. Ugggggh, cars. It sounds like I should start saving for gas now!

Yup. i looked on gasbuddy.com last night and a station on semoran was charging 5.39
OMG, I stopped at this gas station one time after picking up SIL from the airport. I had NO gas and had to stop, it was ridiculous how much their prices were inflated!
That's what the reporter was saying. They take advantage of the tourists having to return their rental cars with a full tank. Horrible.
I chose $100-200, even though "I live where there is public transportation" also applies to me. I think we tend to go through about a tank of gas every week between DH's commute and the ocassional days (like today) when the weather stinks and I drive too.
Slightly off topic, I am very excited that we'll live a mile or less from work in KSA and gas there is less than $1/gallon. It'll be nice.
The oil companies have a lot less influence over gas prices than most people think. This article is a little old, but it explains the forces at play in changing gas prices pretty well:

The current spike is no doubt largely a reflection of the turmoil in Libya and Egypt. Egypt is a net oil importer, but they control the Panama Canal (which most oil from the ME passes through) and are an important oil refiner. Libya contributes less of our oil imports than say Saudi Arabia, but its oil is lighter and requires less refining and thus is more valuable per barrell. They also are a significant player in oil refinery.
