This is not a post and run.... well, kinda.
I have to say something... People on this board get very up in arms when ever anyone makes an anti-Catholic or anti-Christian comment. Is everyone just going to let Arb's seriously offensive signature slide and not say anything about it because she's well liked?
And now, yes, I'm going to work and won't check the board until late tonight, and yes, I know I don't post much anymore.... but it is really interesting to watch this board dynamic. One person can post one comment that can be taken as anti-any-organized-religion and people will get up in arms, but no one is going to say something about what is really one of the more offensive things I've seen in a really long time?

Yeah, I haven't seen her around, but I wasn't around yesterday, so maybe I missed something.
I hadn't either....

Potentially stupid question of the day: What is that supposed to mean anyway? The Jurassic Park design aside.
That's just it. It doesn't mean anything other than a harmless joke. "Raptor Jesus went extinct for your sins." Raptor. Extinct. Get it?
Honestly, Tela... something tells me its not meant to insult all of Catholicism... its supposed to be light-hearted fun. You can't take everything so seriously all of the time... Life's too short!

everybody needs to friggin lighten up a little. Seems like there a lot of people (not just you Tela) that are very quick to get offended by pretty minor things here lately. I don't like that the board has become a very "walk on eggshells so I don't offend someone" kind of place. Maybe that's why we're so freaking boring here lately, because everyone is afraid of offending someone.
Let's face it people, there are a lot more things going on in the world (and more offensive things) than joking about Raptor Jesus and Guinness.
Lighten up. Go deal with a real issue in the world.
This is why I heart you so much. ?

I heart you too
Ditto all this!
Also, Arb puts that up every year, Tela. I think this is the third or fourth year, and you've been around for all of them, even when Arb posted here often, so why are you just now bringing this up?
I get how it can be offensive, but that ship has sort of already sailed.
Honestly, that's the main reason I don't post much and its only on 'safe' topics. I kind of have a sarcastic personality and I don't want it to be read wrong on here. I don't like conflict and hate hurting people's feelings so I just keep quiet...
And thats really unfortunate that you feel like you can't come here anymore, because we, me included, like to hear/read what you have to say/write!

ditto. We love you Kmo! You don't offend me
Awhhh shucks! Thanks guys
I think it is sort of ironic that I get heat for hating Halloween. Then people on here are saying lighten up about someone mocking Christianity.
I know a lot of more Christians can come off the wrong way(in regards to dinosaurs, OT history, etc), but a person's beliefs are just that. Their own. With that said, I think Arb has every right to post the signature. She can feel that way. I don't have to agree with it though.
I think in America it is more acceptable to mock Christianity. With folks like the Westboro Baptist Church, I can sort of see why. Nonetheless, it is painting a broad brush stereotyping people with Christian views. People don't really mock Jews, even though we have many of the same beliefs on controversial topics. Muslims, I think people are still prejudiced, but don't want to touch that topic with a 20ft pole.

The funny thing is, we can't have it both ways. We complain that the board is boring and quiet, yet when these types of discussions come up (let's face it, these are the ones that seem to generate a lot of comments and heat), we tell people they need to lighten up.
Guess we can just post pictures of puppies all day. That will be really interesting.
You don't have to remember that she posts it every year. I'm just saying that nobody on our board has ever brought it up before and I think it's weird that it's being brought up now when Arb barely ever posts as opposed to when we would see that siggy multiple times in a day.
And I directly said it to Tela, who was an active reg on TN.
I honestly don't think it's that difficult to be respectful when it comes to certain hot topics (religion, race/ethnicity, sexuality, etc). And if you unintentionally offended someone, it's really easy to acknowledge and/or apologize without causing chaos. Or at least maturely and rationally explain your opinion.
But it is really difficult to know what is going to bother someone when it comes to the smaller topics (offering a guinness, calling someone a broad or a yankee....). We're all sensitive about different things. I know personally, things have been said that offended me, and I will simply mention it. 9 times out of 10 it's resolved very quickly without animosity. And I don't hang on to it. It doesn't need to be a huge ordeal.
