Self check out lines make me anxious...

Aw really? They have been my savior.

I'm the type that likes to use exact change whenever I can... I always get anxious if I go into a normal check out lane and want to pay cash. I get all flustered when I'm trying to get rid of my small bills and change. So I truly appreciate that the self check out is patient with me and is willing to take my 37 pennies one by one......

I got in line at the self check-out a few weeks ago and the guy turned around, literally with a jar of coins, and said "I'm gonna be awhile."

He paid ENTIRELY by coin.

He was still there when I left 10 minutes later. He may still be there.

Ditto. And when I have a couple of dollars, they kinda just hang out... you rarely can get anything for $1-2 nowadays!

OMG! Embarrassed I'm so guilty of this. I will go through my place, car, wallet and collect as much change together as possible and use it to pay for groceries... Sometimes it can be as much $15-20. Seriously, I don't do this often, maybe once or twice a year... but I hate finding extra change laying around, so I get fed up and collect it all. I know I can use coinstar but they charge you and I'm cheap (obviously). But I will only use the self check outs to do this. I wouldn't subject a cashier to that kind of torture. And even better, I found a grocery store that you can just dump your change into the machine, rather than putting it in coin by coin. Much easier.

I never have more than $20 on me at one time... I'm definitely a plastic girl. But when I can, I'll get rid of what cash and change I have on me. I don't like to carry it around too much because I'm paranoid to lose it.

I swear I'm not a crazy bag lady who always pays with pennies. Stick out tongue

First of all: All doughnuts are created (sorta) equal...if it's deep fried and full of sugar, it can't really be that bad, can it?

Second of all: Nat, you need to stop doing exact change. I have learned that if you keep the left over change in a box, and then go through it 1-2 times a year, you earn about $200 worth of money to put into savings! (Or buy some shoes. Stick out tongue ) I had a really hard time with this concept (I was exact change queen as well) until Danny always had more money than me....and then let me in on his little secret.

I've been to known to lick the bag, or scoop it out with my finger............yummy.

Dear cashiers,
Why do you put dollar bills in my hand first, then a HUGE long receipt and then the change on top? Every single time, the change slides off, I have to wrangle the receipt and I just wind up chucking everything into the shopping bag instead of my wallet because they're already helping the next customer and I'm in their way! I don't need the frustration! Put the change in my hand first, THEN the bills. Wait till I put it away and then hand me my receipt or put it in the bag. So much easier!
This made me laugh. When I was a kid out shopping with my mother, I used to get frustrated and slightly embarrassed that she would stop and put her money away after the cashier would hand it to her, cause there were people waiting. I would cringe every time and be like "Mom! Come on!"
And then I grew up. And the cashier would dump all the change into my palm and I hurry to put that money in its rightful compartments so I don't hold up the line, and then I got WHY my mom didn't just move along.
I always think of my mom when the cashier hands me the change and I try to not just shove it into my purse to be invariably lost in the clutter. And it makes me smile a bit. But maybe that's just cause I'm thinking of my mom.

I don't shove it away, I close my hand around the receipt/cash/change and push the cart away (with one open hand and one fist) and put it away when I get out of everyone's ways.

I am not going to hold up the line but I'm also not going to shove stuff in my purse. :-)
