Pet Food Question

Re: Pet Food Question

  • I would use a probiotic powder rather than yogurt. You are going to get more benefit from the probiotics and you won't have an issue with it causing digestive upset like the yogurt can. Animal Essentials Plant Enzymes and Probiotics is a good one. Some holistic vets may carry it or the pet store across from the Wedge in Uptown. name?

Like others suggested, I would switch to a grain free food. Natures Variety, Orijen, Taste of the Wild.

Lake Harriet Vet is a good recommendation for a holistic consult. Dr. Levy from Whole Health Vet is also a good person to talk with. http://holistic-vet-care.com/

If you do switch food make sure to do it gradually. I switched our dog's food about 3 days ago and it backfired on us yesterday. She usually has a rock gut and we don't have to gradually switch food but this one really affected her and I've never seen her so sick. Luckily, she was feeling better after 12 hours and we're on a bland diet for the next couple days.

  • Sorry - I'm super late on this one!

Ditto to all above - but I would cut out the pumpkin and do the probiotic powder instead of yogurt. One thing may work for one dog but not the other... I would also switch to a grain free fished based food, or maybe beef based, something that's not a major allergen like chicken - check the bags carefully because some Taste of the Wild varieties have chicken when it doesn't look like they do.

Rusty is allergic to everything under the sun so we switched to raw feeding - I can't tell you how much better I like his poop! However, we fed Wellness Core Ocean before the switch and his poop was always firm with that.
