Sorry, I should have posted earlier to let you guys know what's going on over here. With so much happening, I've been haunting FB much more than the board the past few days. Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who's reached out to me there (and here) and given support. It means so much.
I've decided not to evacuate for now. I think about 2,000 people here have decided to leave so far, so the base is emptying out a bit as they get flown out. I've been watching kids all week for those who are staying. C's been out on a couple of clean-up projects and working a lot. Things are sort of starting to settle into what will be the new "normal" for a while.
The nuclear reactor situation is still very troubling. I think we'll be safe up here, but it seems the base has contingency plans in place should that change. As produce and water is becoming contaminated down south, we'll be sticking to commissary shopping for a while (actually, we would anyway since Japanese resources are so scarce and we have enough on base). In the past couple of days the area has gotten some gasoline brought in to town, so that's helped things. Still no kerosene in sight, so we're staying chilly. Luckily it's almost spring, so hopefully there won't be much more snow this year.
The earthquakes are calming down overall, although we just had a 24 hour period where we got like 5 or 6 earthquakes over 6.0 in magnitude. They were all pretty far from Misawa, so they weren't crazy strong for us. Still plenty of shaking though. Hopefully it'll continue to calm down. I'm soooo over earthquakes!
That's pretty much it. We're basically just watching how things progress and waiting, trying to help where we can.
Thank you all again. Your kind words over the past 2 weeks have helped so, so much.

Thank you for the update. Since work has blocked FB, this my only mode of communication until I get home.
Take care of yourself and continue to update us.
xoxoxo
It's so good to hear from you; I'm not a big FB person so I've been checking for updates here. I'm happy to hear that things are starting to settle down a bit, though I'm really disturbed by the magnitude and frequency of the aftershocks you're still experiencing--I just can't wrap my head around that.
If there's anything that we can do here to help you out, please let us know or drop me an email (rocknvoll at gmail if you don't still have it).

I'm glad you chose to stay (only because that's what you wanted to do) and glad to hear things are going as well as they can be given the situation...
