Obsessed - what about you?

I am currently more than obsessed with Adele's new album (21.) I am one of those people who can listen to something for hours on end without being sick of it... doesn't always make Joe happy but whatever.. Big Smile

I am also obsessed with Dr. Bronner's soap. I've been using it to shave, bathe and scrub the shower walls/grout - sometimes while I am in the shower just letting my conditioner soak in. I've been cleaning in the kitchen with it, and soaking washcloths in it to 'swiffer' the wood floors.

Anyone else obsessing over something at the moment?

Re: Obsessed - what about you?

  • I am absolutely in love with that album.  I love every single song on it.  It's on constant repeat when I'm in the car.  I sing along (badly) with the music cranked way up too high.

I'm currently also obsessed with EdinaRealty's home search. ;)

Fun! Are you in the market to buy?

  • Ha! I'm with you on the Adele CD. DH just bought it for me last night (although I've been listening to the songs online for a while now) - and I LOVE it!  There are a few songs that fall a bit flat, but the ones with the strong driving beats . . . even DH thought they were pretty good!  I especially love her cover of "Lovesong" - so so amazing!  I'm also really into the Swell Season lately.

I'm currently obsessing about home improvement projects. We want to update our bathroom (new paint, mirror, shelves), update the flooring in the kitchen, get a new range (my birthday present which I am ridiculously excited about) and do a bunch of other little projects all with the aim of putting it on the market soon. It is a 1-bed condo which I know is going to be a beast to sell and we will probably lose money, but it is tying us down and I want to be rid of it so we can move on to bigger and better things. I figure these improvement will sprouse it up a bit and make it a bit more tolerable to live in while we wait for a buyer.

YUP! H and I just got our preapproval letter thing, and we met with a Real Estate Agent this weekend (we had previously chatted with him for awhile at an open house.)

Electric, gas or induction? We just got a new gas range - and I love it! The oven takes about 1/8th the time that our old one took to heat up, we don't have to blow on the burners while lighting them like we had to do on our old one (hello dangerous!) and we have 5 burners now instead of 4 (but only 3 worked.)

Congrats! What area do you want to buy in? I'm trying to convince 'young' people to move into our neighborhood (Penn Lake, Bloomington) because we need more couples in our 'hood! :)

We have no clue.  We live kind of near Como right now, so we're comfortable here.  But it's all older houses with no yards. We want a yard, and an attached garage. (we're really picky, obviously.)  We want to stay under $150k, though, which is limiting us right now.

Feel free to send me any cute houses you find :) steph0871 (at) gmail

Electric - I'd love gas and will keep my fingers crossed for it in our next place. Our current range is so old (25+ years, probably), one burner (a large one) is out 95% of the time and the broiler doesn't work. It drives me batty! Plus it is a beige color that doesn't match our other (white) appliances. I keep searching online and finding all sorts of amazing ranges (with 5 burners like you have - lust!!) but I have to keep reminding myself that I don't want or need to splurge - especially if we want to sell ASAP. I'd rather save the money and splurge on our next, more long-term, home.

Ahhh, it is so hard - and everyone thinks I am crazy for wanting this as a birthday present! But I don't really want or need anything else  - DH got me 2 CDs last night for no reason and I still need to use up some gift-certs for a Arthur's that he's given me for past ocassions. I use the oven/stove every day and love to cook - so a new/fully working range is pretty nice in my eyes!  And yes, I am the type of woman who once asked/begged for a new vacuum for her birthday and loved it!

  • That's not crazy at all.  All I wanted this year for my birthday was a Dyson... but then we decided to wait and see if we ended up with a house that has hardwood floors.

confession: the thing I'm probably most excited for with a new house is buying a new washer/dryer.  I'm a dork.

I don't think you are crazy! Aaah, how priorities/life changes! :) Lusting over shoes/handbags/$200 jeans are a thing of my past now that I have a home and "babies" (dogs.) Give me a new appliance and I am giddy!

You are going to love having a new range! And if you are looking in the color white, I bet you can find a few great deals!

We have a Dyson - the yellow model (older style, not the ball) and it does all floors! :) It's awesome - I think the floors & rugs look clean, and then I take the Dyson over them and I realize how much dirt/dust/hair is in them... Yuck. I'm obsessed with getting the rugs clean though!

  • It is true how homeownership and age changes your priorities in funny ways!

I started wanting just a new range, then it morphed into new floors and now I'm pricing out new countertops too!  I doubt the countertops will happen, but it is so fun to look! I've also decided to add hardware/pulls to the cupboards and drawers. They are simple flat front things that don't "need" them, but I think it will give them a good finished look. So many ways to update old things without spending a fortune.

I have so many "wants" and ideas swimming around in my head - and we just have a teeny-tiny 1 bedroom place. I can't wait until we have a proper house and multiple rooms to decorate and improve!

  • Anita - totally off topic (or maybe not) - but your pups are SO adorable!!  I just love their floppy ears and expressions!

  • I found a new computer game call Bomboozle 2 which consumed a majority of my weekend.

Also, I am in LOVE with the Cricut scrapbooking cutter.  I used it for DD's bday party and now I using it again for my sister's baby shower and my other sister's wedding.  DH thinks I'm crazy when I run into the family with a mile long banner  yelling "look what I made!  Isn't it cute"!

  • It is not strange to be excited about appliances. When we got our new washer & dryer I was so thrilled by having a "steam wrinkle release" cycle on the dryer. It wasn't even funny.

I'm obsessed with wedding planning now that a close friend is planning her wedding. I loved wedding planning and it's been kind of fun looking for cool ideas again, now that it's been almost 3 years since my own wedding.

  • I'm obsessed with home fixes......but we have some BIG work to do.  Hopefully this summer we can get our basement floor leveled and new windows down there!
  • Hey Steph - My DH had a fantastic realator when he bought our house, and I've had quite a few friends use him (Scott Herold) with great success.  I'd be happy to pass on his info if you'd like.

I just bought Adele's Rollin' in the Deep song yesterday.  Is the rest of her album as good?  It sounds like a lot of you like it.

Current obsession: house painting!  We're redoing the whole inside and picking out new colors (going from all beige to a mix of taupe, red, cream, burnt orange, and goldenrod).

  • I've been listening to The Civil Wars' album constantly all day at work and in the car. It's a-mazing.

Really?  We have hardwood throughout and carpet in the bedroom.  H really wants a dyson, but I'm convinced that it doesn't matter since we sweep, but I hate my allergies.

    It really works that well???

Whoa!  That's a color change!  I would love to get rid of our beige walls and bring in some color, but the H says no way.  I'm thinking of sewing some pillow colors to give myself a temp color fix and try to sway his opinion.  Love the color choices!  Are they similar to the colors of your bouquet in the PIP?

Ditto...we are also in the market for a house.  I feel like "the one" just isn't out there yet.  Anyway, if it isn't looking for houses online it is dreaming about how to decorate and organize future house so I am obsessed with Martha Stewarts website and HGTV.

  • Anita - can you please tell me more about Dr. Bronner's?  Which one do you use - is it just the classic liquid soap that you are using for all those things?  Sounds fabulous!

  • We're in the market for some remodeling too.

I'm obsessed with the iPhone app Houzz - it has thousands of inspiration and idea pictures and you can choose the area - Minneapolis is in it!

And I LOVE Dr. Bronner's. I use the tea tree oil scent for cleaning and then I also have lavender and peppermint depending on my mood!

It's going to be a huge change for us!  Below are the colors we're using.  The hallways and stairway will be the tan color. The kitchen will be orange.  The livingroom will be brown with a large red square painted on wall with a tan outline to "frame" some black and white photographs.  The TV room will have three walls in the gold and one in red.  The bedroom will be tan with one wall having large squares painted all over (color blocking) in all the other colors. And our guest room will be tan with a thick gold stripe around the top like a border.
