I think there are enough of us on here now where this will work, so I'm going to try to start a weekly/bi-weekly thread for us mamas to show off our pride and joys, because honestly, I don't think we get to talk about them enough!
So we'll use this as a forum for checking in, AWing what everyone is doing now, talking about what works, talk about what doesnt, and bouncing questions off each other because I know we all have them.
So here goes! ![]()

Re: Niner Babies: Check-In
Baby's Name: Sami
Age: We're working our way through 6 months now... she was 27 weeks as of yesterday
Weight / Height: At her pediatrician appoitment last Thursday she was weighing 15lbs 13oz, and measuring at 25 7/8"
Breastfeeding / Formula / Solids: All of the above. I'm still breastfeeding Sami 2-3 times a day when I can, but we're supplementing with formula and expressed breastmilk during the afternoons while she's with sitters. As for solids, we're still working our way through fruits -- so fast we've had apples, peaches, prunes, and bananas... we just started pears last night! Once we're done with them, we will begin having two meals a day - breakfast will be rice cereal or oatmeal with a fruit, and then a new veggie at night
Recent Developments: Sami now has two teeth on the bottom and teething is still going strong! We're starting to get better sleeping through the night, but it's still hard training her out of waking up for a feeding. Also, she started rolling across the floor, and I've finally seen it! YAY!
Questions for the Mamas: Sleep training -- who has done it, and what did you do?
Advice for the Mamas: All I can say now is it gets better, because thats what I have to keep telling myself.

Sophie is our friend!
updated 10.03.12
Age: 10 1/2 months (11 months on the 6th)
Weight / Height: 22lbs, 29in.
Breastfeeding / Formula / Solids: Formula and solids. Anything she can get her grubby little hands on.
Recent Developments:? This morning she took two steps! Also she can stand for minutes at a time now. Has discovered how to throw things in the toilet. Has discovered the dog's food and water dishes. Is constantly running. And I swear she said "sh!t" this morning. LOL
Questions for the Mamas: None this week.
Advice for the Mamas: Don't be afraid to let your babies try new foods. Ellie's most recent discoveries are asparagus and strawberries. Loves them. Also, don't be afraid to let them explore the house without your hovering over them. It's important for older babies to gain a sense of independence. As long as you've sufficiently baby-proofed, let 'em run!
Anything else: Congrats to all the new mamas joining us this week!
Baby's Name: Phoenix (Newt)
Age: same as Sami - 27 weeks as of yesterday
Weight / Height: We haven't measured her since her 4 month appt and she isn't going to her 6month appt til next Monday. We think about 16lbs and tall (last time she was in the 90th% for height)
Breastfeeding / Formula / Solids: Breastfeeding and solids. She gets 2 solid feedings a day, the rest is from me. We've already moved her into stage 2/complex flavors since she started solids a little early and did so well with them. So far, the only thing she hasn't really like is sweet potato, and even that she still ate.
Recent Developments: She's doing all the precursors to crawling. High push ups, getting on her knees, briefly rocking in that position, pushing backwards, pivoting when on her belly. We think she might be army crawling before much longer. She's been teething for two months already and nothing has broken through yet, blarg. I can see where they are, they just haven't cut.
Questions for the Mamas: Anyone make or thinking of making their own food for baby? What kind of process do you go through? Do you make things specifically for baby or do you make them unseasoned versions of what you're having for dinner?
Advice for the Mamas: Don't be afraid to put them in the crib and walk away for a few if they're too much. Its okay to give yourself a minute.
Anything Else: The Little Gym - seriously, if you live near one check it out. They have classes for as young as 4 mos and they offer an introductory class for free to check it out. Its made a huge difference for Phoenix both socially and developmentally and its a really positive and fun thing for us to do together.
Weston started showing signs of teething at like 4 months too. I have been able to see teeth for almost 3 months now. I can see 6 top teeth and the front 4 bottom. Yet, still no teeth...
Baby's Name: Alex
Age: 1 month
Weight / Height: 6lbs 8oz/19in
Breastfeeding / Formula / Solids: Breastfeeding with occasional formula supplementing.
Recent Developments: He has surpassed his birth weight now! This means I can exclusively breastfeed again and stop supplementing with formula. Also, the u/s to check for hip displasia and development showed that his hips are developing perfectly! He has also started making lots of cooing and grunting sounds, I am able to distinguished between his different cries and he can hold his head up for around 15 - 30 seconds at a time.
Questions for the Mamas: In regards to breastfeeding, did you do on demand feeding or scheduled feeding? I have basically been doing on demand which he has formed his own scheduled which is typically between every 2 - 3 hours anyways, but then at night he'll go for a 5 hour stretch followed by a 3 hour stretch which has been great. I'm just curious what others did and how it worked for you.
Advice for the Mamas: ETA: I guess I do have a small piece of advice for the newest mamas. Don't let the doctors scare you into doing anything you're not comfortable doing. The first pediatrician we were seeing made me feel horrible that I wasn't producing enough breast milk to satisfy Alex and talked us into supplementing with formula to get his weight up. We finally saw Alex's prime care ped that we had picked yesterday and he made me feel SO much better. He said that Alex's weight loss was still within the normal limit and despite him being small there is no reason to not exclusively breast feed and reassured me that it is a supply and demand situation while Alex may sitll be a little hungry after one feeding my body will make it up at the next feeding as it catches up to his growing appetite. Follow your instincts, so much really does come naturally.
Anything else:
Alex is a snuggle bug today. He won't let me put him down.
I demand feed. The LC told me to schedule and do both sides at one feeding, but honestly, that totally didn't work for us, partly because of the reflux. Even once we got the medicine though, both sides for like 10-15 mins each was just too much and a guarantee spit up. I figured Newt would know what she needed, so we did one side for however long she wanted. It did mean a little more often feeding, 1.5-2 hours apart. But its obviously worked for her and I haven't had a supply issue.
And your Anything Else, too cute, made me smile.
Honestly, I give you credit... I don't know how you're finding the time to make your own baby food. I'm lucky to have the time to feed Samma right now, let alone make her her own foods.

Sami started at 3 months and it took another 3 months for the first tooth to break through. Teething has been hellish since, and tooth #2 finally broke through last night. I'm hoping we're over it for a little while...

I fed Sam every 2-3 hours until she reached her birth weight, and then it was on demand. I have learned to never wake a sleeping baby, so it's awesome he's going that 5-hour stretch for you!

I should point out, I haven't actually made any of my own food for yet. She's only had jarred baby food (organic at least). I just really want to try and make some of my own at some point, and was hoping someone might have some easy tips, lol. I'm totally with you on the time issue.
I am so ready for the teeth to cut through. They are making for one fussy/non-sleeping baby
there's a lot of gals on WC that do this, and it doesn't look that hard or time consuming.
Pennies on a Platter has quite a few I know, let me see if I can remember who else has posted about it...
Ellie is about where my niece is (who funny enough share's Ellie's birthday I believe). 6 teeth that are sharp little buggers. She's somewhat zombie-ish too as she seeks out your head to bite it...strange runs in my family.
I have to say this is somewhat discouraging though that you all had teething for months and months before anything cut...or still haven't. <sigh>
That link is awesome! Thank you!
I just texted a friend of mine who made a lot of her own baby food for her LO, and she sid she used a lot of direction from this website:

Thank you
Every time I look at him all I can think about is how adorable he is. I didn't know i could be so instantly obsessed with someone.
My friends do this! They exclusively BF or feed their son with expressed breastmilk throughout the day, but they give him a formula bottle at night to keep him fuller longer. I told them it was cheating, but it works for them! ;p

hahaha, I will definitely feel like a cheater but hey, if it works and I get sleep I'm doing it!! His current schedule would be ideal for when I go back to work so I don't want to break it if I can help it lol
Can I play?
