I was there in 2000-2001. I was in the dept that oversaw the summer dance program tryouts and admissions.

It was too bad she was so crazy (she brought SO much personal drama to work I could not even deal with it) because I found the work, dancing, and program quite fascinating.

I, too, danced, but not professionally. Just from tumbling at 2 y/o until I was 16.

I know someone who interned in that department, too. But I think she was there a couple of years after you, and possible just during the summer. I dunno.  It's not a very good story, I guess, heh.

I actually applied for a FT job there when I was looking to move to Boston. It was in their Development office, but I think I didn't have the "ins" they were looking for - at that point, I'd only worked in CT, so I didn't have any connections with rich donors here.

Share one thing about yourself that you've never posted on this board before.  I was a professional ballet dancer from the time I was 14 until 21 and part time until pretty much two years ago when I became pregnant.

That's awesome! I interned with Boston Ballet in college, in their marketing/pr department, and I loved it. I loved watching the dancers most of all - I took ballet for 5 years, but I pretty much sucked, so I am always in awe of anyone who is able to dance professionally!

How random. I did a short internship with them too. The woman who supervised me was BSC so I wrapped up my minimum requirement and got out. Too bad because I had really hoped to get on FT there if the internship had gone better.

How funny that there are so many connections to Boston Ballet on this board! I've heard that working on the office side of the company is really difficult, especially during the director changes from 2000-2005.

Ead-  you should totally get back into class! I'm not a graceful swan anymore (especially while dropping this baby weight!), but dancing is so fun! I'm always the "old lady" in the back of the class these days. I'll breakout my flexibility tricks once in a while, but the young dancers have me beat!

Don't worry, I did the exact same thing for the exact same reason.  I just eventually changed it because I wanted something less identifiable.

I really enjoy Jennifer Weiner, also! I've read most of her stuff, but when I was pregnant I downloaded "Little Earthquakes" on my Kindle, and if you've read it, you'll know it was NOT a wise choice for a pregnancy read!

I used to work in fundraising, too! I did it for 7 or 8 years, and then had to stop.  I hated my last job so much, and I just wasn't cut out for it anymore.  Are you on the individual giving side, or the corporate side?  I was on the individual side, but I really wanted to get into grant writing.  I was moving towards major gifts, and I really don't have the personality for that.

And we just moved from Quincy a couple of months ago! Have you been to Babycakes over in Wollaston?  I miss that place so much.

  • Late to the party, but Rock's post made me seek this one out!

How long have you been married/committed to your SO?  We've been married for a year and a half, dated for 3 years before that, and knew each other 7 years before that

What do you do for work? What are your career goals?  I am currently a paralegal for a small real estate law firm.  I like what I do, and I hope that I can continue to do so despite this economy.  Ideally I would love to get into litigation and/or actually become an attorney myself, but there's a lot I need to accomplish before I even begin to think about that chance.

Do you rent or own? Any plans to buy/move?  We currently own our house, and have been there for 2 years.  It's nice, but it's definitely a starter home, and now where I want to be for the rest of my life.  We will stay in the same town, but I want something a little bigger, and off a main street.  I think we'll probably start looking again in a few more years, before Sami goes to elementary school

Any children? TTC? Future plans?  One - Samantha is 6 months old.  We keep talking about another, but we just aren't sure right now.  We have some time...

Pets? Type, name, age?  Loki and Freya.  Both are Pembroke Welsh Corgis.  Loki will be 4 in June, Freya is 3.5 years old.

What are your hobbies?  I love to read and play video games, go for walks and partake in yoga classes.  I also love to eat =)

What was the last great book you read or CD you bought?  Last book read -- The Hunger Games.  Last CD -- the Sucker Punch soundtrack

What was the inspiration for you Nest screen name?  This one?  My nickname/initials and DOB

Have you ever met a Nestie/Bumpie IRL?  Oh yes - I've become very good friends with a lot of the girls on my Anniversary board

What other boards do you regularly post on?  September '09 Weddings and September '10 Moms.  I lurk on Entertainment, MM, FM, and BOTB often.

Share one thing about yourself that you've never posted on this board before.  I am me.  What you see is what you get.  I may not post often, but I'm always lurking... creepy lurker that I am.  Treat me right, and I can be your best friend... do me wrong, and I will make your life miserable. =)
