Wow-Rock-n-Voll -Amazing. Thank you! (pips!!!!)

I came home late last night and found a mysterious box on my doorstep. Hmm, a Massachusetts return address... hmm, a familiar first name... could it be - could the very talented Rock-n-Voll have actually created something just for me? I know I had hinted pretty hard in the past that if she ever felt moved to make something for me that I would be very happy to receive it! I love handmade, and I loved all the little creations she had come up with, but I also know that the time she had available had just been reduced by a silly thing called work. So, imagine my absolute delight when I tore open the package and found a beautiful baby blanket and stuffed bunny!

...You know, this adoption wait has been really hard on me. Sometimes I think I've lost out on my only chances, and sometimes I think that any hope I once had has been permanently replaced by doubt, sadness and the blues. But sometimes all it takes is an unexpected package in the mail to clear away all the negativity and just focus on the bright things in life - like a perfectly unique baby blanket - with sheep (my favorite animal!!!), and an absolutely precious stuffed bunny (the bunny's weight and size is just amazing - I almost took it to bed last night to give me comfort - but then decided my future baby needs to get first dibs ;)

So, thank you Rock-n-Voll - you have put a smile on my face and in my heart - and I will cherish these gifts forever.  I can't wait to share them with the child who will one day join our family.

(ETA: I'm a dummy, and obviously don't know my animals -the stuffed bunny is actually a lamb :) )

  • those are super cute & love the blanket!
  • Yaaaay, I'm so glad you like them!  I sent the package out on Saturday and was wondering when you'd get it.  They are long overdue as I initially promised them to you by January, I think, so apologies again for that.  You just made my day with this post :)

The stuffed animal is *supposed* to be a sleepy lamb but I know it came out kind of amorphous.  It's actually exactly what the pattern looks like, but after I made it I realized that without the title of the pattern it really could be anything.  I even created a post on the Crafts board a while back (because that little guy got finished quite a while ago; it was the blanket that was holding me up) asking people if they could tell what it was.  Heehee, oh well, as long as you think it's cute either way :)

Please do update us when you can on the adoption process.  I'm really pulling for you guys!

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

Oh man, I'm sorry I called the lamb a bunny! Love it, love it - thank you!

No, no, no apologies!  Like I said, I thought it was a little questionable too once I had it done.  But there really weren't many good lamb patterns out there and it was already done by the time I realized it, so there you go.  As long as you like it, you can call it whatever you want.  And maybe it will just encourage your kid's imagination to come up with things it could be :)

I thought it was a sheep actually. Big Smile

Yay, hannikan! Haha, most of the Crafts board answers were lamb/sheep too, though a couple guessed bunny at first.

  • I'm all SmileBig SmileEmbarrassed at this post.  Thanks for all the sweet words, everyone.

I totally recommend Debbie Abraham's books for beginning knitters (my recommendations are for beginners, the books aren't marketed that way). She does afghans in squares, and they are GREAT for those who want to learn different stitches and techniques and have something to show for it at the end of the day!

RnV you are truly amazing at that...and SO sweet for doing that for M.

M, i'm hoping & praying you find your match soon.

Thanks for that rec.  Are you on Ravelry?  Friend me if you are!  Same screen name as here.

My first knitting project was a sampler scarf that incorporated a bunch of different stitch combos to create neat patterns--it was a great learning project.  I don't think I'm going to knit a blanket anytime soon as I've already done so many crochet afghans and crocheting goes faster :)  I am working on my first sweater though!

    I am now!

I do not knit anything BUT afghans anymore. After the $99 tank top disaster of 2005, I stick to things that don't have to fit!

  • How utterly precious!
  • Those are unbelievable!!! I am so impressed! Nothing compares to hand made gifts, and I love that they're gender neutral but still have character. Such a sweet gesture.

And Dragonfly, I have no doubts that you guys will be parents to the little one that needs you the most. You guys are so amazing, there's no way you'll be skipped when the right LO comes along.

Ravelry is awesome, you're gonna love it!  I'm hoping the sweater works out; I have a couple of unfinished crochet tops sitting around but I'm hoping a knit wearable will end up better.  I totally understand what you're saying about an expensive disaster--nice yarn ain't cheap!
