I call up a university I attended and say "I was a student there 10 years ago" and the work-study kid on the other end of the line laughs and says "Whoa - that WAS a long time ago!"
Ugh. I didn't want to bother mentioning to him that 10 years ago was my SENIOR year. But at least he didn't call me "Ma'am" - plus he informed me that I have a tuition refund coming to me . . . from, yes, TEN years ago?!?! Talk about a slow accounting department!
What sort of things make you feel old?
Re: I feel old when . . .
My baby sister, who is 9 years younger than me, is graduating high school this year. Makes me feel very old...
Oh, I know exactly what you mean!! Getting invited to the wedding of people I used to babysit throws me. I was talking to the girl and joked that she was too young to get married and she shot back "I'm 26 - isn't that when you got married?!". Yikes!
And I have to say, YOUR LITTLE BOY IS ADORABLE! My goodness he is sweet - and those curls. . . . too much cuteness!
My baby brother is about to turn 20. That's just insane to me.
Also, I'm reaching the point that if I ever have a baby, it will be a geriatric pregnancy. Also, I hate that term.

The fact that I can remember something that happened 20 years ago.
Just about ever song on KDWB annoys me and I don't understand why they all have to be sexual.
my read shelf:
Totally agree!
The fact that my youngest sister will be graduating college next year!
Also, that my youngest cousin (that was born when I was a sophomore in high school) is now a sophomore in high school.
When I see high school kids...they look soooo young to me!

When my cousin born in '94 is graduating High School this year. I feel like he's just a really tall 10yr old now. He can't possibly be Graduating already...
The 90's do not seem like they were that long ago...
I felt really old when my nephew turned 21 a few weeks ago.
It's a nephew on Andy's side of the family, and Andy is the youngest in his family. This nephew is the son of Andy's stepbrother who is 45, so it's not unreasonable that a 45-year-old has a 21-year-old son. It just feels crazy because we have no kids, yet we have siblings who have kids old enough to drink.

I just realized I've been wearing contacts for almost 30 years.
I almost told a kid at Old Navy that I wasn't old when he called me "ma'am" last week.
I felt old when I went to the doctor and the nurse was younger than me. Until that point my brain thought all medical professionals were all "older" and I was "younger".
High school seniors look like little tiny babies.
Now even college seniors are looking like little kids.
I used to know every song by every artist on the radio...now I'm all, "Who? What? Whoooo? What kind of a name is that?"
OMG, this happened to me the other day at the dentist....I'm pretty sure my dentist is younger than me! How weird is that?!

I feel old when my friends in their 20's tell me not to bother listening to KDWB because it doesn't make me young....it just makes me seem like an old person who is trying too hard.
I feel old when I think that I've been driving and working for 20 years.
Tired after a long morning of hiking and swimming.
Oh I just remembered a good one! When I took above said sister to the doctor in Feb, 2 days before her 18th birthday, one of the nurses looked at me and said, "Oh, are you mom?" WTH?!?!? I def don't think that I look old enough to have birthed a child at 9 years old...
I buy a few trendy items at Forever 21 on occassion. Everytime I go in there, I have this internal dialogue:
Why, yes, I am older than these girls, but I am not trying to look young and cool. Sure, there have to be a few things that I can wear in here that are trendy and still age appropriate. Boy, I am a smart shopper. And hey, I am sure that they like having me as a customer, I have a real job. I wonder if THEY think that I look old and wonder why I am shopping here. I should stop hiding behing this rack. Wow, look at all of these little bodies. I'm fine so long as I keep my head down. Oh great, now I have to walk around the mall with a Forever 21 bag, humiliating.
today when I looked through the students' I work with Facebook pages, and reported to our administration that the kids were bypassing the school's blocked pages while they were sitting in class.
or that I have had the same best friend for 30 years. What? How many years?
OMG.....lots of things make me feel old. I totally agree with high school students practically looking like toddlers nowadays.
Also, I was chatting with one of my co-workers about where we each were on Sept.11th. I was mentioning that I was in my junior year of college, getting ready for class. She was in FIFTH GRADE! Wth?
Some other things....my baby sister who is 6 years younger than me just had a baby. I have friends from high school that are on their 3rd child. I can remember things that happened 26 years ago.
That said, I apparently look younger than I am, because I still get carded for drinks, and I have had 3 people in the last few months ask if I am still in school and at what university. And someone thought my 26 year old sister was my OLDER sister.
I'll take it....I'm 30

When I worked at the zoo, one of my much younger coworkers asked me what it felt like to be pregnant. I looked at her and said "how the hell should I know?" and she got red in the face big time! She assumed that because of my age (27 at that time) and the fact that I was married, obviously I had kids.
Then there was the zoo interns that stared blankly at a bunch of us when we were discussing the awesomeness of Wham!. They had no idea who Wham! was, but they had heard "Wake Me Up Before You GoGo" once or twice.
Love these posts... let's see.
Not only are the kids I babysat as babies POST college, but I finally could not handle the stress of their FB drinking photos (they're BABIES!! lol) and unfriended them to stop feeling so OLD.
Today I felt ancient when I realized my children will never SEE a phone booth nor have I see one in a long, long, long ass time.
When I watch American Idol and these kids say they've watched the show their entire lives - and they're not joking.
When I watch late night TV, or really any TV, and the audience is screaming madly and I haven't a clue who that person is, whether they're an actor, singer, or TV star from some reality TV show
Last time (probably 8+ yrs ago now) I saw a Billboard top hits and I literally had no idea which column was the artist name and which was the song title
Last year I texted for the first time, felt ancient and had no idea how to put a space between words
When my son asks what movies I watched as a kid and I have to try to explain RECORDING DEVICES didn't exist (VCR's came out when I was 8.) We were stuck with movie theater movies or exciting shows that were played on TV
When I remember friends whose parents were nervous about the microwave and made them stay back when it was turned on. I even remember when we GOT a microwave oven when they came out
In a college class last summer I had extreme culture shock. The internet during class? Movie downloads for a class assignment? Have a conversation and don't know the answer and you can find out in seconds? Wha???
Love being 35 though... it's a good decade.
Kids I babysat for are HAVING KIDS.
The fact that I've had my driver's license longer than I didn't before I turned 16.
The fact that it is my 15-year high school reunion this year.
Reading this thread and nodding along. Especially at going to Forever 21 and simultaneously feeling old and frugal!
WHAT? I graduated from HS in '94. this makes me feel REALLY OLD.
I'm 2 years older than my mom was when I was born...that makes me feel old somehow. I could have a 2 year old right now if I followed the same schedule my parents did. Hmmmmmm.
hmmm, I am now the same age my mother was when she had me - and I'm the youngest. I don't know if that makes me feel old or simply behind schedule!
To make matters worse, when my sister was my age she had 3 kids and was planning a trip to Korea to adopt the 4th. She's since added one more (she;s 3 years older than me and REALLY likes kids).
PLUS - one of my college housemates just had her FOURTH kid in January. Boggles my mind.
Yeah, when I start thinking of where I am in the baby-timeline I get all confused - because I know, based on my friends/family, I should have at least one by now, but I simply cannot imagine having a kid at this point. I feel too young (mentally) for it!
