Alright girls this is a new one even for us old Knotties - Health and Fitness Thursday.
Since so many of us are watching what we eat and working out, this is a thread to share what you have done this week health and fitness-wise. It is also a place to get motivation and support or to talk about anything H&F related. If it's about getting fit, it fits.

Re: H&F Thursday
You rock, Leslie
I like that we are starting new stuff over here, makes me feel like we are breaking away from the TK stuff.
So, I have only worked out twice this week. Sad.
. But I have two big tests next week, so that kind of takes priority. I did get a really excellent "pissed off" workout in yesterday, after my advisor debacle. Probably the best cardio I've ever done. I think the elliptical machine was thinking "What the eff is wrong with you today?"
When I see blogs about what people eat, it makes me feel like I'm such a crappy wife for the things that we eat for dinner sometimes. Does anyone else feel that way? I just really don't have time to cook a lot of times, because I'm studying at night, and DH is at the gym. So, what's the point?
1. I'm rocking Body Pump 3x per week. Best Workout Ever
2. I have done no additional workout besides Body Pump in over a month. Fail.
3. I have eaten poorly pretty much every since we moved.
Natalie - Your not alone. We eat grilled chicken, rice, and vegetables at least 3x per week. It's hard to cook something that is fast, easy, and healthy when you have an 8-5 and then workout. I see some of the meals people are cooking and just don't comprehend how they do the shopping and have the time to cook these things.
This is us. I get home a bit earlier than Bill does sometimes and that's when I should work out but I don't. I usually do laundry and watch TV--not bad in and of itself but definitely not getting me to be better. Then, when it comes to dinner, Bill doesn't usually get home until almost 6:30 PM and by the time we eat (even if I have cooked it before he gets home), it's still almost 7 PM and then I get sick in the middle of the night. Never mind the fact that he usually needs to do some work when he gets home and dishes just sit there for days because that's his job if I cook. I just don't have the energy to nag.
However, my goal next week is to work out (either with the Wii Fit/Zumba or go to LA Fitness) three times. I can't do it before going to work because, well, I don't want to get up at 4:30 AM.
I'm a lazy bum that really should work out, but I don't.
That's my H&F.

I'm starting next week training for a 5K

TN apparently doesn't like it when I quote sometimes. Ugh.
Natalie,
We are the same way. Almost to a T.
Next week, my goal is to work out three times either with the Wii Fit/Zumba or going to LA Fitness. I have to go in the afternoons because, let's face it, I'm not getting up at 4:30 AM.
Oh, also... Does anyone have any running shoes that they absolutely love? I need some rec's.
My DH loves his Nike Free's but I don't really like them.
Alot of the girls from TK already know, but I started a weight loss program in mid-January. As of this morning I am down 27 pounds! I officialy weigh what I did when I met DH.
I am using the MyFitnessPal iphone app for the calorie tracking portion and a combo of Couch to 5k, strength training in a gym and EA Sports Active 2 for the Wii for workouts.
One thing I'd like to ask you girls who have eaten well for awhile (this is an overshare, but I'm curious): Recently I've noticed if I have fried food, even a small portion, I am almost instantly sick and have to find a bathroom ASAP. I feel like my body is rejecting the food; which is bittersweet as sometimes I work my butt off and would like to have a small french fry!
This week:
I am in Week 5 of Couch to 5K, today is the final day of Wk 5 - the big, scary, run for 20 minutes straight without stopping day. Three total run days so far this week.
I have also done 2 strength workouts and 2 EA Active workouts.
I have consistently met my 1300 calorie diet for each day. My sodium levels are still higher than I would like, but a lot lower than when I started.
Summer - We should start a day of the week were each of us posts a healthy and quick recipe we make for dinner...that way we can get new recipes!!
Tiffany - I just bought some Livestrong Nike Shoes from the Nike Outlet in Terrell...LOVE and they were only like $70
Ummm...Chelsea, if you can already run 2 miles without stopping, a 5K will be easy breezy for you.
My goal last year was to starting training for a 1/2 marathon and run one of those this spring. HAH. That didn't work out very well. Because then I started school, and it was cold, and I stopped running as much. My workouts started consisting of things indoors, and treadmills, and ellipticals. And they weren't consistent enough to be training for anything.
But I've done several 5K's, and we do the Turkey trot every year. You'll be fine if you can already run 2 miles straight! I couldn't run 12 feet before I ran my first 5K, and I just trained using intervals for about 5 months and I was good to go.
Tiffany-yeah, DH and I eat a lot of Chicken. A lot. But it's easy. I wish I had ways around it. And awesome that you're going to body pump 3x a week. Did you end up driving to another gym that offered them at better times for you?
I just bought the Brooks Trance 10. LOVE THEM.
But, if you are interested - I bought mine at Fort Worth Running Co and they fitted mine to my stride. It was cool, I ran on a treadmill in front of a camera at foot level, they played it back in slow motion and brought me shoes based on correcting my stride. I tried on 10-12 pairs of shoes and the ones I bought sped up my mile pace and took away all of the leg pain I was having.
Yes, fried foods make me ill. I can eat french fries or something usually....but I couldn't eat a whole fast food meal or a chicken fried steak or anything like that.
Also, you will be surprised how easy the 20 minute runs are.... I dreaded it myself when I did it but it actually goes so much faster! I hated the intervals... I dreaded having to run again after I walked for a minute or two. It was easier to just run straight through... I bet you will be surprised.
I should rephrase that... I mean "WALK/RUN" 2 miles! hahaha I CANNOT run 2 miles straight...I can only do about 1/2 a mile straight at a 6.0 on the treadmill
LOVE LOVE my running shoes. I wear ascis, always have and always will. But, I suggest going to Run On because they watch you run, and then fit you to a shoe that's perfect for your foot and your running style.
Summer - No I go to my old gym on Tuesday/Thursday straight from work (it's only 10 minutes away) and then I don't have to sit in traffic on my way home. On Saturday's I just drive to the gym 15 minutes away.
Leslie - How much did they cost? I want to do that but I don't necessarily want to buy a $150 pair of shoes right now, either.
Chelsea- Looks like a trip to the Nike outlet may be in order.
Eating hasn't been woohoo this week but it is a lot better than we did last week. I didn't do a darn thing last night because I went to bed super early but Monday we did a lap around our neighborhood and yard work, Tuesday we walked and climbed stairs for an hour or so and I wanted to die. Tonight we won't be doing anything because we have our Hebrew class.
My plan was to try a Green Monster and have it be a part of my meal or snack or something but I never got around to it.
Thanks, you too!
It has been a battle for me to even get my DH to change his eating style. He is a meat and potatoes guy and to him the only green foods are lettuce and "get that sh!t off my plate." lol.
We do a lot of grilling - chicken, steaks, fish. It's the only way to get a healthy meal on the table that we will both eat. That being said though, we buy pre-marinated chicken and just hit the steaks/fish with some marinade or lemon pepper - not too inventive!
Chelsea-OH, gotcha.
I know for me it was easier to do intervals, and each time I would run for longer and longer, even if it was only for a minute or two. I would run outside, and so I would mentally tell myself "Ok, this time run until you get to that tree, because last time you stopped at that other tree" or whatever. Eventually I found myself running the entire two miles.
There's no way I could go from never running, to straight running for 20 minutes. without stopping. I would go into cardiac arrest.
Leslie-my body does that with some things. If it's too fried and greasy, yes. But I can still eat pizza, and chick-fil-a, and things like that. But an example for me is beer. I stopped drinking beer completely after my wedding. And while we were in Europe, I drank a beer. Bad choice. We were rushing back to the hotel so I could use the restroom within 30 minutes, that stuff went through me so fast and gave me AWFUL cramps. My body just wasn't used to that substance anymore. Oh well, even more reason not to drink it! haha
Mine were $136 after tax and with a student discount (I just told them I was a UTA student and showed them my ID - this would work for you too if you have an ID.) My friend went with me though and hers (Nikes of some kind) were only $80 after tax. They have so many shoes that I am sure they could make your price point work.
Thats how I am, but I run on the treamill. I used to get winded after like 30 seconds of running (partly because I used to smoke I think), but each time I would say "Ok your exhausted now at 2:00 mins, I know I can run another 0:30 secs but Im going to force myself to run another 1:00 min."
Something like that
Tiff and Summer - Good to hear this is not just me.
Anna - Color me jealous of your bodybugg. My next purchase is a heart rate monitor but my DH says no to the bodybugg.
Chelsea - What are you doing to train for the 5K?
I work out 6 days a week. I do cardio all 6 days and weights 2 days out of the week. On the days I just do cardio I try to get in at least 1 hour, on weight days I do 30 minutes of cardio.
And yes fried foods and ground beef from any fast food restaurant makes me instantly sick!
Re: Shoes
My sister is a pointe shoe fitter, and while that's obviously not the same as running shoes, she will tell you that every person's feet are different and for something that high impact, you really need to get shoes that are specific to your feet.
Re: Healthy cooking
I highly recommend the Cooking Light book "Fresh Food Fast." I use it all the time!
I've been wanting to do a Green Monster too. I saw it in a GOOP newsletter a few weeks ago and then forgot about it.
You cracked me up with "eating hasn't been woohoo" - that's too cute.
Now that's dedication!
I'm going to do the Couch 2 5K
I have a sort of OCD when it comes to working out! Too bad it didn't start till after my wedding. I actually was the heaviest I've ever been on my wedding day.
