Kathy - I can't even imagine how stressful that is.  I'm so sorry and I will keep you and your baby (and your DH) in my thoughts and prayers.

Anna - If I was going to switch careers it would most definitely not be to teach HS economics.  I would be willing to teach a financial literacy course, but not economics.  :)

Book club ladies - let's start a book club!

You were actually switching from teaching to something else, I think. Because you didn't like it, lol

  • Thanks Jaymi, Summer, Lacey, and Anna for your T&Ps for the baby and us.

The only "resrtiction" I have on when we can have a baby is the month of December.  This actaully came from my boss.  They can't do much about it but I was advised that since they are doing layoffs if I have a December due date I might be one of the ones to get cut.  That is the busiest time of year for us.  NO ONE gets vacation and if you are sick you better be in the hospital or they will have you come in.  Other than that I just want a happy, healthy baby whenever God wants that to happen!

they do realize that's COMPLETELY illegal, right? i mean, grounds for a SERIOUS discrimination suit. if they had just done it, instead of telling you that they would do it "if", they might have some wiggle room, but having told you flat out that they'll lay you off if you have a baby then has pretty much f'ed them. if you have any of that convo in writing, i'd save it and send a copy home. even if you don't have a december baby, if they try to lay you off while you're pregnant/just afterwards, you've got some real ammunition against them.

i'm glad your supervisor is willing to help hide it for you if necessary, but she shouldn't even have to think about that.

She is absolutely right... I worked for a company (a big one) where my manager told me straight up that I would be passed over for a promotion due to the time that I was "requiring" to be off for my maternity leave and that I could cut it short if I wanted to promotion.

I got the promotion.  He got the pink slip.  He's lucky he didn't get sued.

Ha, thanks.  I left that company when my daughter was about 6 months old... the whole thing irked me that bad... especially because his "supporters" were still around.  But, I still say that he deserved everything that he got.

I actually said to him "is that even legal for you to say to me?!"

He responded "well, if we're questioning legality, then legally, I'm going to walk you out of this building and ask you to not return."

    Jerk.

Haha - that makes much more sense in my mind.  :)

  • In completely unrelated news, I just found out I get off at 2.30 tomorrow... without taking PTO.  Life is good :)
