NIcknames

Do you and your DH's have nicknames for each other? Do you use them in front of other people, or just in private?

What do you think of "hubby", "hubs", and "wifey"? I heard a new one the other day, "husby." Do you think they're cute, or puke-worthy when you hear people using them?

Re: NIcknames

  • I have DH programmed in my phone as "Hubby" but I wouldn't call him that, ever.  He calls me "sweetie" and I call him "honey" and that's about it.  I think if I heard people using them excessively I might puke but just as casual talk I think it's sweet.
  • Hubs, Wifey, etc make me want to puke.

He calls me Bug and I call him Bear.  I have no idea why.  We also have every variation on those names (Buggy, Beary, Buggles, Barrels, etc)  Never in front of people though.

He sometimes calls me Boo, which I hate. I have no idea where that came from.

  • Lacy, I have DH in my phone as "Hubby" also.

I would never call him hubby when talking to him directly. I am guilty of using it on facebook, though.

Really the only ones we use are babe, baby, and he calls me baby girl.

One of our friends calls her husband "boo bear" and in front of people, excessively. It makes me want to puke.

  • Boo bear reminds me too much of Poo Bear from Legally Blonde.

We have an inside joke where we call in each other Scoop, Scoopy, Gooz, Goozy, etc. Our baby is called the Little Goozer. :)

  • I hate hubby, hubs and wifey with a passion.  We both call each other Boskey (there is a very long story behind this nickname).  He doesnt call me it in public but I do call him by it.  When speaking to him I honestly cannot tell you the last time I refered to him as Matt.

    Ok, that's really cute.

  • I hate the term wifey.  Blech.

I call him Meep or Pickle.  He calls me Bean.  I have no idea why.  Never, ever in public.

I have a friend who calls his wife Sugar Bear - in public.

Ditto-I know when DH calls me by myrealname that something is either wrong, or he's pissed.

Same here.  He rarely does it, but when he does I say "What's a Lacey?".

ETA: That doesn't make him any less mad.  Haha.

This is quite possibly the cutest thing I've ever heard!

  • He calls me Hen but not in public.  He loves chickens and although I don't ever call him that, that is where it comes from.  He actually calls himself Chicken sometimes.  In every day life he calls me Stephie.

I really don't call him anything except when he is in trouble and then I call him Benjamin.

I don't know anyone that uses Wifey or Hubster or any of that IRL.

  • I call him Munchy - it's a long story involving a fake swear word and it stuck. Haha. Variations include Munch or El Muncho or Munch-a-saurus-Rex because I am a nerd.

He calls me Junior - I am slow about leaving the house when we are going somewhere and he always says "T-t-t-today Junior!" (from Billy Madison) and it stuck. June for short.

Never in public and hubs, hubby, etc. bother me.

That's cute. Makes me feel like DH and I are so not creative.

Me either.  Once I thought "Oh, I like xyz as a name."  Then I realized holy cow, it is a form of my husbands name.

  • I call him sweetie pie sometimes.  I also call him JW--his initials or BR--initials again.
  • I don't care for wifey, boo or old lady (<--- I really hate this one).

    I can't stand baby mama. Can't stand.

ETA: I don't really know why I quoted you.

I don't either but I am guilty of using it when trying to convey something to someone who just will not get it.  I say "the baby mama" and voila a light bulb goes off.  I guess I use it only when necessary, lol.

Yeah, I use it in those situations. But I hate when men refer to their wives as that. Or women refer to their husbands as baby daddy.

  • I call him babe or sweetheart and he calls me babe or punkin.  Mostly in private though. :~)

Too funny...some of these nicknames.  I also don't like Old Lady, that one gets under my skin.  I don't mind hubby/wifey if it's not over-used, but it is so eh I don't particularly care for it.  Hubs I don't like at all.

  • I don't really have any nicknames for him.  I've tried boo bear and baby and those never really stuck. I just call him by his name.

He calls me bachi bear. Where that came from, I have no idea.

On facebook, sometimes I will say hubs or hubby, but now I just tag him in the status haha.

    image
  • I'm guilty of using hubs on facebook. I will admit it. It doesn't bother me any more than the excessive use of hubby, but evidently it bothers a lot of people!

I'm still going to use it ;)

  • We only use babe or baby.  Nothing creative.  DH goes by his last name most of the time and since we have gotten married I'm not hislastname#2 to all his friends.  We don't use nicknames in public but he does occasionally call me hislastname#2 in public but I think it's because he likes us having the same last name now.

I don't like hubs, hubby, wifey, etc.  I had a friend that use to call her boyfriend/fiance "man friend" until they got married and now he is her hubs.

    This is me too... LOL

  • Some of these nicknames are so cute.

I think I am the only one that uses the nickname in public.  I dont know why but I just cant call him Matt.  When I talk about him I use Matt but if we are in Target and I need him and hes in the next aisle I just yell "Bosky".  *Hangs head in shame*

No, I call him baby in public and DH will call me baby girl depending on who we are with/where we are.

  • I guess we aren't creative either... babe or baby for us too.

His friends have recently adopted calling him "Drew", and I HATE it.

I worked with a girl that literally baby talked with her husband... literally.  It was the most disgusting thing I'd ever witnessed.

  • We aren't very exciting. It's babe and baby for us, in public and private. The funny thing is that he never ever calls me Angie - it's always Angela. I don't have a preference on what people call me, but I tend to introduce myself as Angie... I have some people call me both, but not nearly as many use Angela (except for people he introduces me to). It's pretty cute... except that Im usually in trouble when he uses it haha

    Haha thanks.  We are nerds.
