Royal Wedding?!?!

I  got up early and watched.  How gorgeous is Kate Middleton?!  LOVE, love, love her dress!!

Westminster Abbey, wow!  What an amazing place....everything was gorgeous!  The singing, the chandeliers, the trees, and on, and on!

It was weird when they only blessed one ring and only William put a ring on Kate's finger and said the spiel.  I still think that is weird!

What did everyone think?

Re: Royal Wedding?!?!

  • I didn't watch it but just went through the pics on CNN's website.  Looks like quite the affair!  I cannot even begin to imagine how much that wedding cost when you include all the security/police, etc...

  • I got up at 4:15 am to watch some of the pre-wedding coverage and made tea and crumpets. So fun!  I LOVED her dress. I thought it was absolutely stunning.  Then again, she would probably look good wearing a burlap sack.
Lots of love and continual explosions of babydust to my BG Besties! XOXOXOXO

  • She looked so beautiful!!!  I missed the ceremony, but I am sure it will be replayed sometime so I will try and catch it then.  I watched them ride in the carriage from the Abbey to the Palace.  They looked so happy :)

I totally don't understand the titles, though.  Evidently they will be called the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge?  Why not prince and princess?

From what I've read - she can't be "Princess Catherine" because she wasn't born to the title - however, as Prince William's wife, she is Princess William of Wales, Dutchess of Cambridge - - - just as Camilla is technically "Princess of Wales" but doesn't use the title because it is too closely associated with Diana (who, incidentally was technically not "Princess Diana" but "Diana, Princess of Wales"). It all seems very complicated . . .

I thought it all was beautiful!!

  • I didn't watch but I'm pouring over photos - that Kate, so stunning, elegant, classy.  Wow.  Her dress is timeless, perfection.  Good for her.

She makes me want to hit the gym and go shopping to channel my inner Grace Kelly.

  • I just watched a few highlight videos on the BBC website.  Holy smokes.  What a lot of pomp and circumstance!  I cannot imagine being in the middle of that.  What must that feel like!?

Man - it took her 5 minutes just to get up the aisle!  It's kind of a bummer half of the guests in the abbey couldn't even see anything beyond her passing them as she walked up the aisle.  I guess it is honor enough just to be in the building?

William looked like he was going to pass out at one point before saying his vows.  He got very blink-y! I wonder what Harry was whispering to him at certain points...he probably tried to keep it light.  They didn't look all that joyful during the ceremony...but I guess this is unlike most weddings.  And I'm guessing they were a tad nervous.  I'm bummed William had his back to the aisle and didn't see her until she was right next to him (Other than sneaking a quick peek.)

I was kind of hoping she'd do something a little modern and funky for her dress but I guess in her shoes picking something so classic and elegant was probably a wise choice.  I'm also surprised she left her hair down.  Her bouquet was also rather understated.  But I guess it fit the look really well.

The trees in the abbey were an interesting touch.  Maybe she always dreamed of an outdoor wedding and that was her compromise?  Who knows.  :-)  Kind of fun to speculate.

I DVR'ed the BBC channel from 3:00 a.m. to 3:00 pm so I'm sure I'll see everything at some point.

Man....now what are people in England going to talk about?  I'm sure they'll switch over to "Royal Baby Watch".

  • I'm watching it now on DVR.  I'm not enamoured with the royals, but really want to see Kate's dress. I'm sure she'll be gorgeous.

  • Kiz, I'm intrigued to watch the ceremony now.  Crazy that William's back was to her - I wonder what that's all about.  Trees in the abbey?  Hmm..

Kate's style is generally very classic and understated which is elegant in itself.  I love that her dress reflected her personal style.  And the fabric just looks yummy.  I'm glad she chose something that she won't regret in 20 years.  I love that her hair was down too.  I think the over the top princess look is overplayed in the mainstream style. Lovin it!

Yep - giant trees in the abbey!  Crazy!

It must be a part of their tradition that the groom faces the front.  I like looking at DH's face walking up the aisle so she missed out on that part.

I have to wonder as I watch this that if she wasn't having a royal wedding, what her "dream wedding" would look like...  Would she choose all of the same things?  I wonder too how much of an influence the royal family has on how things play out. I'm sure a ton...

  • i didn't get up to watch but put coverage on when i was making breakfast.

i loved her dress, very elegant. i thought she looked absolutely beautiful but i have to say, she is NOT going to age well. i already think she looks like a woman in her mid/late 30s, not a 29 year old.  her skin just isn't the same as a person that age.

william looked fab. unfortunate to be losing so much hair at that young age also. our bodies are so weird. how can we lose hair when we've barely had it for what will be a 1/3 of our lives? (and some people start losing it in high school!)

i cannot comprehend how bizarre it must be to be a royal, married into it or not. such an unfathomable thing to me.

all in all, yay for something non-depressing for the media to cover. hurray for love!

  • Thanks for the pic, Kiz.

One thing I did not like: FOLDING CHAIRS at the royal wedding...whaaat?

I think she tends to wear a LOT of makeup and it doesn't look very natural.  Maybe it's not doing good things for her skin?  I wonder what she looks like without a drop of makeup on...  Hmm.

I have to say....Prince Harry's girlfriend is looking a bit haggard at 25...I have a feeling she really won't age well.  I don't understand her outfit she wore to the wedding.  Hmm.

Yuck.  You'd think they would have room in the budget for decent chairs!

Oh Elton...quite a color combo there!  It is pretty understated for him though...no feathers or sequins.  :-)

Yup.  That's her.  Google image search "Chelsy Davy".

Hah, yeah I'm sure she's got something going on that keeps him interested.

I cannot picture her in a royal wedding.  Kate fit the role just fine...but picturing Chelsy going through all of that?  Yeah, it doesn't work.  I wonder what the royal family thinks of her?

I thought the glances William and Kate gave each other during the whole wedding were quite endearing.  Once and awhile they would look at each other out of the corners of their eyes and smile at each other.  She also did say to him when they got into the carriage "I'm so happy."  Also, about William keeping his back to her as she walked down the aisle, Kate told him that she didn't want him to see her until she got up to the alter and he turned around.  So William was literally the last person to see her out of everyone in the world that was watching this morning.  Harry, however, did sneak a peek at her as they turned the corner to head towards the front of the church.

As for the dress, it's a requirement that her shoulders and arms be covered in the Abbey, so a wedding like that probably calls for something a little more classic, which she obviously has no problem pulling off!

They said that the bouquet she carried contained "stems from a myrtle bush planted on Britain's Isle of Wight by Queen Victoria in 1845, as well as a sprig from a plant grown from the myrtle used in Queen Elizabeth II?s wedding bouquet in 1947."  So the flowers might not have been all that exciting to look at, but they have history behind them.

  • I'm not gonna lie, I turned it on for a brief moment just to see her dress, otherwise I really could care less.  I am just amazed at how many people are so into this when even if we had a single President who decided to get married in the White House I wouldn't care nor would I watch.  Maybe its because they're royalty but still.

I'm also not going to lie that I only liked kate's dress from the waist up, the rest looked like a poofy garbage bag.  I think she would have looked awesome in something more form fitting with the top she had, like a mermaid cut perhaps.

And I know it has something to do with the hierarchy of things but I much preferred Harry's get up to Williams!  Not to mention that Harry is going to be far more attractive then William as he gets older.  William is just exactly like his father...I'm beginning to believe the conspiricy theory that Harry is a different man's son.

Ha - I was just trying to picture her as a royal bride.  Nope.

  • I feel like some people (on FB especially) are putting their noses in the air and saying that they don't care about the wedding.  I can't help but wonder if these people also hate puppies and rainbows.  And, I mean, c'mon, it's so rare in history that a wedding like this takes place.

Yeah I get that.  You can have covered shoulders and still be a bit more modern though.  I didn't dislike her dress...  In this situation though it was a very smart choice for her.  It just doesn't happen to really ring my bell completely.

It's cute her bouquet also had "Sweet William" in it.  But no matter what the meaning or history, I was underwhelmed by her flowers.  I think I would have liked to have seen a happy medium between her bouquet and Diana's monster bouquet.  :-)

I only saw a brief clip of the ceremony so I think I missed some of the glances and smiles you are talking about.

I haven't read through all of the responses so sorry if someone already touched on this!  On the coverage I watched they said that William "doesn't like jewelry" and didn't want a ring.  I still think he should have done if for the ceremony at least.  Lots of men have wedding rings that don't wear them.

I wasn't crazy about Kate's dress, but she looked beautiful.  I loved the part when Harry snuck a peek at Kate coming down the aisle and then turned and said something to William with a little grin.  He is sooo cute!!

Well I guess you can put me down as a puppy hater then because I thought the hoopla was so so so overdone.  I get that it is historical but I don't think it warranted AS much coverage and attention as it got.  I wanted to see her gown but that is honestly the only thing I was even remotely curious about.  I'm happy that two apparently stand up people found love but I just don't feel the need to obsess over it.  I'm certainly not going to think less of people who are all swept up in it and I would expect that the swept up people could feel the same for me.  Wink

That's cute they drove off in the convertible!

Is this really true? Prince Charles' bioethanol 38-year-old Aston Martin runs entirely on wine. It was converted in 2008

  • No problem, Kiz! The Daily Mail is a hugely trashy tabloid (very conservative too, I guess) and my husband is horribly embarassed that I read it, but it does have good celeb gossip!
