Re: Top Names for 2010

  • That shower looks like a stuffed animal lynch mob went through that house.
  • This thread has gotten more replies than the chit chat. I think more of us have babies on the brain than we would like to admit!

  • The baby shower decorations make me shudder.  I can understand decorating with useful items the mother can use after the shower, but come on now, have a little bit of creativity.

I like Emerson and especially calling her Emmy.  I also like the name Charlotte.  I like Emily, Grace, and Rachel.  DH has vetoed them all.

  • Olivia is one of my favorites too... And I'm not so sure I care that it's common!  About the keychain thing - that's important!  My name was always findable, but my sister's wasn't and it made her sad a lot.  We would always hunt for it, even if we didn't want to buy the thing, just to see if we could find it!

I love Emma, but DH has a cousin Emma, and my coworker's kid is Emma.  I also like Ella... is it weird that that's also Spanish for "her/she/girl" ??

I remember growing up I could never find anything with my name.  I look every once in awhile now and still can't find anything but I don't really care.

  • I'm just proud that no one wants my names.  They aren't particularly unique either, at all.

We want boys if we ever have them...but my name is a girl name.  I don't have any boy names in mind. Bummer.  Guess I have several years to figure that out. :)

    What are your names??

Nobody wants my boy name, either. :)

  • It's a secrettttt!! LOL, no really... I will probably change my mind so I will share.  Since our last name is forever long I think something simple is best.

I really like Mary.  It's simple and sweet and it was my grandmothers name.

I also really like Claire.  Alot (queue the "alot" monster...haha)

However putting them together makes them strangely similar to Marie Claire magazine.  Maybe a bad idea.

    I also love Kinsley.

I find it funny that you want boys, yet all the names you picked are girls. haha. Are you sure you want boys??

  • Never been more sure in my life.  If we even have them.

I'm SO not a girly girl.  At all.

ETA:  My DH also has a first name that is a family name.  (It's pretty bad, seriously...and no, I won't share it here) That may have to be used in the event of a boy.

I do like Kingston, and Hunter... or Preston... or, um, idk... there's your proof!

    Twin girls. bahahaha.

I'd rather have twins actually.  Just be done with the whole deal if I have to do it.

Ugh not me. Not after watching my friend go through it currently. One at a time is enough work for me, thanks.

  • -Again, I go to staff meeting, come back and holy moly!

-Ok the animals hanging from the ceiling for the baby shower creeped me out.

-I love the name Kinsley too.

-I think everyone has really cool names picked out!  :~)

Claire made me think of the other one I like: Cassidy or Kassidy.  I think Mary Claire is cute and if you hadn't have told me about Marie Claire, I would have never put the two together.  Even still, I think they are cute together.

Also I love the name Mae or May.

I knew a girl in HS whose name is CassiDe.

That just made me think of Bethen'NAY.  The name of some AE's 'future daughter'.

  • Random thoughts on baby names...

-I like boy names for girls.  Examples:  Ryan, Michael

-I will never make my child go by their middle name.  DH is one of these as is my sister.  They both say it is so annoying on the first day of school to get called for attendance by your legal name and then have to take it up with the teacher.

-Girl names are easy for me.  Boys are HARD.

    Random thoughts on this post...

-Twins are scary.  That is LOTS of work.

-Those shower decorations were very scary.

  • I love both Emerson and Kinsley!  So far no one has wanted my boy name either yay!  :-)  It's not in the top 25.

Um, I know a girl who's maiden name is Ginger Snapp.  I swear... she's actually my FB friend so you can totally verify.  She's remarried now but WOW.

    The baby decorations were creepy.

Tiffany, I think you are crazy for wanting twins.  To much work for me. I'll take them spaced out.

Ginger Snapp? really? Poor child to have parents that would do that.

  • Wow. I just got out of class and saw the # of replies to this!

My girl name is Radley Kate, after Boo Radley - so we could feasibly call her Boo. I have zero boy names and DH hasnt had a girl born in his family for 30 years, so I might need to think of some.

You got me thinking and have me scared.  On DH's side his mom is the only girl; she has 2 brothers.  One brother has 2 sons and they have no kids yet and the other brother does not have any kids that I know of.  MIL had 2 boys.  We have no kids yet but BIL has a son.  MIL has to be almost 60 and she's probably the youngest.  Holy crap.

  • Tiffany, I'd like twins too.  DH's mom is a twin, so it's feasible (I think that's how it works, right? Or is it my side that matters more?  I never remember.)

I have a friend who just named her baby Charlotte Reese... I'm fairly certain it's specifically after SATC and Reese Witherspoon, but she is seriously a beautiful little baby, and I love the name, regardless of where it comes from.

My manager just named her little girl Kinglsey Soleil, which I also like.  I like the idea of a slightly funky middle name, and a more normal first name, and I agree about not going by the middle name - it's a pain!

I think it's so much easier to think of girl names I like.  Boy names are much harder.  DH wants to name our first son after him (he is a "second" so it would be a third) and he's pretty adamant so I'm going along with it.  However, if we have a second boy, I have no ideas because our last name is two syllables and ends with "-don" and I don't like the repitition of a lot of names that I would otherwise like (like Brandon) with our last name.  If we have a second boy I'm going to have to hire a baby name consultant or something, haha.
