oh fudge cakes....how many people will be there?

Can't they at least spring for a nice restaurant?  I guess you can't really beat the 2 for $20 wedding reception special at Applebees.

So far, 20 people have RSVPd yes to the Facebook event.  I don't think the couple is picking up the tab, though.  I don't know if they really thought it through - they really should have picked somewhere where they can reserve a room, at least.  You can't just have 20 people show up somewhere.

I've BEEN to a JOP wedding then Applebees circa 2006 (and I think we did just show up).  I was more dressed up than the bride, whoopsies.  But they're still married and going strong.  Not changing my answer tho, sticking w/ 4 mos!

  • I think a JOP wedding and restaurant reception can be just fine, and is a smart move for people who really can't afford anything else.  That is totally not what is wrong in this scenario!

Maybe on a Monday, it will be ok to just show up without a reservation.  I hate waiting for a table, though, and for 15+ people I imagine you may have to wait a bit.

  • Ok so here's the tally.

    1. He is the guy she cheated on first fiance with.

    2. They have been together for 6 months.

    3. 2 week engagement.

    4. Facebook wedding invite.

    5. Applebees reception. (Not gonna dog on the JOP wedding because sometimes that's what works for people).

    Anything else?

Laura I think I like Alicia's Applebees GC idea :-)

  • If she did not bother to tell you she was getting married, you do not need to send a gaht damn thing.

  • Can I put in a guess of 5 months, 3 weeks and 6 days until someone cheats or moves out/first break up, 2 years until they actually break up, and 4-6 years until they get divorced (because divorce costs money)

Seriously though, it's a weird situation. Up to you on the gift...I probably wouldn't based on the facebook invite/short notice/lack of commmunication between you two. Also, I don't know if you mentioned it for sure (I'm at work and reading/writing this has become a 30 minute process), but are you going? If you do we need details in an update post on Tuesday.

You might be right about them sticking it out for a while...

No, I'm not going.  The wedding is in FL.  I probably wouldn't spring for a plane ticket for this wedding regardless, since we're not close and it's basically just dinner at Applebee's with a bunch of strangers, but it's possible that if I had more time to get a good deal, I might fly down and see the rest of my family.

  • O please go so we can get a play by play! That would be amazing!

  • Ha, you guys chip in for a $300 plane ticket, and maybe I'll go.  I can pay for my own dinner.  :)  People aren't invited to the JOP part, so I would only be able to tell you about dinner at Applebee's.
