Re: Chit Chat Thursday
Seriously, someone needs to host a cake ball making GTG. Leslie's creations sound amazing. Like I said, my one attempt was an EPIC fail.
I started the book club book at lunch. I was kinda of skeptical at the suggestion, but I am so glad I gave it a try. At only 50 pages in, I really like it.
I think I'm about halfway through the book.
I totally want to make cakeballs--I've been thinking about asking on FB for a recipe.

I was able to make the actual cake balls with ease, but when it came to melting the chocolate and dipping them it was HOT MESS! I am always amazed at how remedial I am at seemingly easy tasks.
Sorry girls, I'm not going to be able to make it either
I was looking forward to finally getting to meet y'all! I'm down for the shopping G2G though
Julie, I can believe that people would actually do that, but am appalled at the fact that companies actually lay off people in those kinds of ways. My office will have a one-on-one meeting with the person, and they treat the matter in a very sensitive manner. I don't think there's ever a "good" way to tell someone they have lost their job, but I think there is definitely a "less bad" way of doing it.
"...And he just came out of my imaginary birthday cake." -its apelila
Sadly no. They are for a family reunion on Saturday morning. It's 2 hours away in the middle of the country. My grandmother asked me to make them as she is always telling her cousins about them and they are like "cake in a ball?!?!" "balls of cake?!?!" Educating the masses, one cakeball at a time.
I fully intend to bring baked goods to the book club G2G. Not sure exactly what yet, but likely cupcakes and cake balls.
ETA: I finished Henrietta last week, so I am working on discussion stuff now. I am excited for the G2G!
Sad.
Darn you guys and your stupid book club G2G!! Why did you have to pick my wedding anniversary?? Now I'm missing cake!
Don't you know that CAKE IS THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS?!
LOL.. I'm totally kidding...but slightly jealous.
Sad, indeed.
Stop by anyway, even for a few min, I would love to meet you in person (and ply you with cake!) It's DH's birthday and I'm leaving him alone to get everything ready for his party that night...
Aw, thanks. DH and I are going to spend the day together though.
Lacey- That does sound good! I went and had one of the german chocolate brownie blizzards from Dairy Queen the other day! :-)
So no cake tomorrow?! :-(

So I'm bored at work. ( can you tell?)
I was lurking on TK and I just want to bang my head against the wall, repeatedly. When are they going to learn to plan in advance, get everything in writing, and that the world doesn't revolve around them?
Argh.
You could always track down Kendall and get one of those grape cupcakes. :P

True....I kind of want to try one because I am just curious as to what they would taste like...

I have 22 left
I can't take them all to the TK G2G tomorrow, so if any of you ladies are in the Valley Ranch/Coppell area, I am happy to send them to your GTG ;D
YES!! I feel for her, but I fail to see how they did anything wrong.
Yea, I mean it sucks that it is so close to her wedding. If she flat out asked "are there any conferences the week of my wedding" and they said "no" and knew that there were, I would be pissed. But if they didn't, there's nothing you can do about it. And the guests can stay at another hotel. Not everyone stayed at the Wildwood....others stayed close by but we were all fine! :-)

I just headed to TK for the first time in weeks for that one. There are other hotels within maybe an eighth of a mile from the Omni - if the rooms were the big deal, couldn't they just get a shuttle to another one nearby? Then again, whatever...I loved my wedding but so glad the planning is behind me forever.
Yeah but it doesn't really matter what they said a year ago unless they put it in writing. It's a huge convention hotel, you can bet there will be a convention. Solution? Block more rooms in advance!
Yea, that's actually what I was thinking. I would still have my wedding there even if everyone couldn't stay there. It's just not a big deal!

I am excited about the book club. I was a member of one for a long time and I miss it. And Ben has a HS reunion all day that day and Mel will be at her dad's so it's perfect.
Yeah the Omni thing is a mixed bag as far as fault goes but I still feel for her. And I have to admit, I LOVED having all of my relatives at the hotel. It did make it really special. But yeah, not the end of the world either.

Just got a call from my DH (who is traveling for work) that my BIL will be staying with us tonight and tomorrow night. He didn't have anywhere to stay and has to be here tomorrow for my cousin's (from yesterday) graduation. Did I mention they are dating?
Awesome, whirlwind guest room/bathroom cleanup time. I was planning to eat a pretzel hot pocket for dinner, so I hope BIL likes them too!
Ditto. If you knew that more than your family would want to stay there, why didn't you get MORE ROOMS????? Also, hotels typically only give two tasting options. It's because their kitchen has to make special dishes for the tastings that they only usually offer in mass quantities and are not on their regular menu. And offering three menu options is too many. Trust me. My ILs did it for our rehearsal and there was one meal that was only picked by two people. That means that the kitchen has to buy a few pieces of one thing, make the special sauce for that dish, etc.
Well, I don't know if anybody will come back to read this, since it's so late, but I missed y'all today!
I was going to bring a cake tomorrow to the G2G, but it had an unfortunate accident. You know the moment at some weddings where the bride and groom smash cake in each other's faces? Well, I forbade DH from doing that then... and he decided this cake was pretty enough to just take a bite of. And he made me do it too. So now it's all cute, but has two big bite&face marks in it, and that would be way weird to bring. Sorry... but we got some good laughs!
Re layoffs - at my current company, they did one-on-one meetings when they had layoffs a month or so ago. It was like my third week, so that was pretty scary!
I'm pumped about dinner tomorrow, and also about the book club! I've still got a ways to go - it's hard to find time to read! I can't wait to see everyone
Re shopping - I need someone to pick out my clothes for me, but I'm a cheapskate. I'm also in the married & happy & fat stage - every one of my work pants are uncomfortably tight. Like, painfully so. But I keep putting off shopping... I signed up for MyFitnessPal.com today, so we'll see how that goes.
