Random Monday

Ok ladies, my 1st randoms.  Don't fail me now.  :)

What is everyone up to this week?  Anything exciting?

I have an ultrasound today.  And taking Gracie to the Cardiologist on Tuesday.  Other then that the rest of the week is low key and just have my (3rd) baby shower with H's side of the family on Sunday.

This is primarily my goal too.  It should be a relatively quiet week.

Random question:  Should I feel guilty about being annoyed with a coworker who talks about NOTHING but their child?  I know a child is a huge deal, and often the center of your life, but does it need to be the topic of EVERY conversation?  If there's a slight pause in conversation, they'll go off on some tangent about teething.  Um...ok.  Coworker even goes out of their way to show me videos on their phone of a new toy their child got, and shows me new outfits, tells me how much she spent on diapers, and where I should be shopping for baby/toddler clothes.  I mean, I love to talk babies to an extent, but I also enjoy normal adult conversation too.  Is this normal?  Will I be like this eventually?  I've never encountered a mom like this.  All the other moms I know usually only talk about baby if asked or it's a funny story here and there.

Wow, that seems a little nuts to me.  I don't think I've ever met anyone who talked about their kids so much, particularly in a work environment.  I can see how that would get old fast.

  • Good Morning!

As far as plans for the week, tomorrow is our anniversary so we'll probably go out for that at some point, but otherwise, no real plans until the weekend!

I think you'll see everyone along the spectrum.  If she doesn't have a lot else going on in her life, her kid may honestly take up most of her time, life, thoughts, etc.  She may not know what else to talk about or have nothing else to talk about - it's probably her crutch if she's chatting and doesn't have anything to say.

  • That would drive me nuts too. I got up about 20 minutes before my alarm went off because the sun was shining right into the rom and made it real bright. I didn't get any caffeine today so we'll see how that goes.

  • Had a great time cheering on the runners on Saturday - Hope you all were happy with your races!

Poor baby talk lady. Some people are just not good at holding conversations that are interesting to both parties. Maybe she gets nervous easily and her mind blanks about anything else??

Heading to Countryside on Wednesday to pick out flowers with my sisters and mom. Then my birthday is on Friday!

  • I have nothing exciting planned during the week.  My uncle is coming in from Texas today and my dad is hosting a gettogether on Saturday IHO him.  I can't wait to see him!

This is kind of what I thought in the beginning too, but she will go out of her way and come to my office when I'm working (and usually busy) to show me a video of her kid or show me the baby shoes she bought.  It's very strange.

I bought a pineapple last week and we finally cut it up last night.  So.delicious.  We even made pineapple mango salsa with some jalapenos and onion we had.  I was in heaven.  It tasted like summer.  I saw that whole pineapples were $1.99 at Meijer yesterday.  I think I'll pick up another when I'm out today.

I love fresh pineapple.  Canned pineapple doesn't even come close to comparing.

Every once in a while. Last Friday I made the mistake of having Wendy's for lunch, and that gave me wicked heartburn.  As long as I watch what I eat I'm fine.

Mmm, that salsa sounds delicious.  Although, I hate cutting mangos.  I've quite figured out how to do it right.

Not sure yet. Depends on the weather.  I would love to sit in the lawn chairs at Mangiamos so Henry can play in the grass while we have a little wine and nibbles. Fingers crossed for sunny warm weather.

  • Nothing huge planned this week. Tonight I'm trying to talk DH into going to an informational meeting regarding a new High School that will be opening up this fall to see if it might be a good fit for SS.

Coworker talking nothing of child? I don't think I've experienced that, but think I would be a bit annoyed as well. I'm trying to convince my SIL #1 that she need to tell her DH that 1 Sunday a month he can take the kids and she can go and play.

Hoek: Your B-day is Friday! Yay!! Mine is this coming Sunday. Were planning on the Twisted Rooster and a Movie with DH's BFF and his wife  who happens to share my bday as well.

  • the finial space ship lifted off this morning. Anyone like me kind of sad that this is the last mission?

    Nope.

Confession: I don't believe in space missions/exploration.  (I know that's flameworthy, and most Americans -- my husband included -- disagree with me, but there you have it.)

Exciting about the new high school.

I've heard a lot of good things about Twisted Rooster. How fun that you get to celebrate with a birthday buddy!

  • We went to the Whitecaps game last Thursday.  It was $2 beer night.  I had the following convo with one vendor:

Me: What are the $2 beers?

Her: All domestic beer. (She had Leinenkugel and a Miller Lite tap.  )

    Me:  I'll have a Leinenkugel.

    Her: No, just domestic.

    Me:  It's made is Wisconsin.

Her: Uhhh, just the Miller Lite is on special.

We knew there was another tap down the say that had Shocktop (from Anheiser-Busch), Lenie's (from WI) and Founders (Um, can you be more domestic?).  We had almost an identical conversation with that vendor.  "What are the $2 beers?" "All domestic." "So the Shocktop, Lenie's or Founders are $2?" "No, none of those."

I think they need to relearn the definition of domestic beer.

Well, that is really annoying.  So apparently only Miller was on special.  Gross.  They should call it "$2 Miller beer night."

It actually appeared that Miller, Bud and FOSTERS were $2.  Yes, Fosters.  Maybe they thought it was from a town called Australia, USA.

LMAO - this is great. You need to send an email to Whitecaps on this one.

We didn't go for the beer or anything, so we found it mostly funny.  Instead of a $2 beer I got a $3 domestic ice cream from Hudsonville and was pleased.

  • One of my FB friends just posted a picture of her baby with a maxi pad stuck to the top of his head.  Indifferent
  • Fosters = domestic.  Huh.  The world IS getting smaller.

WOP, I wonder if your coworker is trying to bond with you.  Does she do this with everyone in the office?  Or just the one growing a baby?

We spent a good chunk of time this weekend tearing out and replacing our shower surround.  It looks so much nicer now!
