Did you own/currently own a diesel VW? I'll need a new car in maybe a year or so, maybe diesel is the way to go...

*butting in* my dad is a VW diesel fanatic.  He had a TDI drove it for 10+ yrs, sold it and bought a new one.  He loves them.

It's just really scary to me, if this isn't just hyperbole coming out of self-reporting, that 71% of households are truly on the brink.

H has said before that he's read that Americans have a negative savings rate.  So while it's sad, the poll is not surprising.

When I dropped $700 on one of my cats at the e-vet, a CW said "I don't know what I'd do if that happened to me."Indifferent

Did I want to spend that on my cat? No.  But I love her dearly and will do anything to make sure she's ok.  That's why we have an emergency fund.  For when little cats decide to eat ear plugs.

  • It completely sucks- we have a baby on the way and both of us have commutes that are 1 hour - 1 hour and a half each way. We have cars that get 30 miles/gallon, but we are filling up 3 plus times a week.

  • It stinks to pay more, but we both have really short commutes, so it doesn't hit us as hard.

Now, if either of us had an hour or more commute, it would sure hurt our budget a lot more.

I have owned diesel vehicles as long as I have been driving because they last longer and get better gas mileage.  They cost a bit more, but over the lifetime of the car it becomes nominal.  My old car is 200,000+ miles on it and has been handed down to my nephew to take to college next year.

Yep!  Both were VW's.  Car #1 was a VW Golf TDI and Car #2 is a Jetta TDI.  I would have stuck with car #1 since it was paid off but I really needed a 4 door vehicle with the baby.

I really love VW.  If they had made the Tiguan in a diesel we probably would have gotten that instead of the Jetta.  However, the Jetta actually has a bit more trunk space, surprisingly.

DH has the VW CC (gas) and that gets really good mileage too, like 30 MPG.
