memorial weekend plans?

what is everyone doing? the weather doesn't sounds like it's going to be the best so we've opted to stay home.

i plan to try to relax a bit, get my garden planted and maybe swap out some shrubs in the front that i may or may not have trimmed to death. : )

it's also our roommates birthday so we'll be attending a small gathering for that too.

what about you ladies?

Re: memorial weekend plans?

  • Rain or shine, we'll be at the lake.  I haven't been up there since the snowpocalypse weekend and I miss it.
  • I'll be working...real estate doesn't take vacations...but on Monday I'll be grilling out for the first time this year (I know, I know probably the last MN people to fire it up this year).
  • Charity breakfast with the Twins on Saturday, family BBQ, some serious bathroom shower tiling.
  • We haven't decided 100% yet, but we are probably going to stay home as well.  I'd like to get some stuff done around the house, and hopefully get some vegetables planted.  It was in the 30's this morning, so it hasn't exactly been great planting weather.... Confused

  • Cirque de Soleil on Saturday and that's about all we have planned. I'm just looking forward to having a 3 day weekend!

  • CABIN!  YAY!  My Nook is loaded and waiting.  If it rains or is cold I plan on wrapping up in a blanket on our covered porch and reading until I go cross-eyed.  :-)

  • I have a ton of stuff going on: 1st b-day party for a friend's daughter, 26th b-day party for a friend, festival on Sunday, and 2 bbqs on Monday!
  • I am going "home" to my dad's lake house. My sister and her family will be there and at some point, my dad will show up (he's in Canada fishing) and then a little later, his wife will arrive (she's up north with her family).  I'm SO looking forward to it because I havent' seen any of them since Christmas! I can't wait to see my 8 month old niece and my nephew and all of his post-surgery improvements!!

We are also celebrating my sister's 10th anniversary and my dad's 4th. My sister is bringing up a cake from the bakery that did her wedding cake - - mmmmm, so so yummy!

I have no plans other than to relax and enjoy being with my family. Chris, unfortunately can't make it as he has to teach and has a gig on Saturday night. I'm pretty bummed as we both could use some time to relax, but what can you do? I've made him promise to keep the 4th of July weekend free so we can get away then - hopefully.

  • We are staying home, but don't work Monday so I think we'll be working on house stuff. We considered going to my parent's lake place, but my uncle's place is next door and my uncle's place has turned into a party spot for a few of my wild aunts/cousins and I just want to relax at the lake... they stay up way too late listening to music and smoking pot around the fire, and I'd rather have a late dinner, quiet evening, early to bed and sleep in late. It's hard to do when there is a party next door...

I have a dresser that I bought ages ago on Craigslist that I need to do a few small repairs on, then sand and paint. I've been waiting for nicer weather so I can do it outside in our garage instead of in my house.

We are going to build a deck - we might get started on that this weekend.

I've been doing some flower gardening, but my veggie garden isn't even close to ready to go. We've got to pull up a bunch more sod, till in some manure, and make a new fence/gate. I know fall is the right time to plant peonies, but I bought a Sarah Bernhardt Peony at costco yesterday for ~$15! I planted that, but we need to weed and mulch badly. I also need to cruise craigslist for ferns - I want to put ferns on the north side of my house in the shade.

  • meh, we are moving on June 1 so packing up our place; also working on my dissertation proposal; a few yoga classes and a 5 and 10 mile run at some point. Not relaxing, not exciting, oh well, one of these days!

  • I have to work all weekend. I only work my second job one weekend every 6 weeks and of course it always has to fall on Memorial weekend.

  • We're backpacking almost 30 miles this weekend up north :-)

It's been way too long since we had a 3-night backpacking weekend so looking forward to that!  Our last two trips have each been only 2-nights and done in 1-3ft of snow.  Looking forward to the spring weather for this trip :-)

  • Would like to go up to the cabin in Hibbing, but instead we will be working on our house.

The outside needs to be painted(not sure what color yet), paint the livingroom, and we need to put a new set of stairs on for a deck so the pups can just run out to thier fence. Of course this will not all be done this weekend.

  • Nothing. DH is on call for work all three days, so we can't really go very far. We'll go out to eat for DD's 16th birthday and that's about it. I might get a massage and/or get my nails done. I need to do something nice for myself so while DH is working, I might do that. Maybe a movie with DD.

I tend to cram all the running around crap I have to do into M-F so I can do nothing on the weekends.

  • Going to a wedding on Saturday. I don't have any other plans.
  • Motorcycle camping in the rain.  Sounds like fun, huh?  Hmm

Holy, 16?!  Wow, congrats on that!  I still think of her as 12....I'm sure it's even more of a shock to you!

  • We're finally going on vacation! Andy is starting another master's program on June 7, so we needed to get our summer vacation in before then if we wanted to do anything more than just a 3-day weekend trip.

We didn't do a "real vacation" in 2010, just family camping trips and travel to family weddings. I'm soooooooooo looking forward to this vacation!

Fun! Where are you going/what are you doing??  It has been ages since I had a "real vacation" (I think 2008??), so I want details!!!

  • I'm wrapping up my school year!  I need to get a ton of grading done, and I will maybe start some of my container planting, but that's it....oh, and some MN FACS stuff.  Next week is the last week of school, and I want my room to be closed up on June 4 at 3 pm.
  • Nadda.

I'm a little bummed, but a little relieved too. I wish we would have gotten our *** together and planned a camping weekend. My Sister and her Boyfriend are going and it sounds like fun!

We're planning on going to Hangover 2 and I'd like to see Bridesmaids too. Other than that, we'll probably have a small fire in our fire pit, relax, do some landscaping and maybe go pick out some veggies to plant in pots on our deck (townhome living = no garden = Crying)

We're doing a road trip to Niagara Falls and Toronto. We're going south of Lake Michigan & Lake Erie on the way there (through Chicago and Cleveland). On our way home, we're driving north of Lake Huron and Lake Michigan (through Ontario and Michigan's Upper Peninsula), crossing the border near Sault St. Marie). It will be just over 2,000 miles round trip, so hopefully we'll see some fun stuff along the way!

We have a list of cities we want to visit but haven't been to before, and Toronto was one of them. Plus, I get to check another province off my list as I've never been to Ontario before. I love road trips, but I haven't done one in several years, so I'm excited to get on the road.

Talk about cutting it close, my passport is supposed to be arriving today. Whew! I paid extra for expedited service and should have had it over 2 weeks ago. So much for expedited service!

  • Not a damn thing (and I am ok with that). Last weekend was nuts. I'm just taking it easy.

Thanks. It is a huge shock for me. Nothing makes me feel older than her birthday. Not even my own birthday. lol. Seems like yesterday I was bringing her home from the hospital. I know everyone says that, but it is so true.

  • Well...we were hoping to do a day trip to Hudson/Stillwater area and be outside on Saturday, but we'll see.

Twins game (probably in the rain) on Sunday.

    Monday I have to work.

  • We're headed to my hometown in Upper Michigan.  My cousin happens to be graduating from high school while we are there. Yeah!
    Anniversary
  • DH is working all weekend. I was thinking of hitting up the family cabin with my Mom and the dogs, but if the weather is going to be iffy we'll probably just stay here and go to a movie or the mall.

If all else fails there's always house projects and laundry :(

  • We're heading up north on Friday to the in-law's cabin. I'm trying to have a good attitude about it, but there's so many better things I could be doing with this weekend. Not sure what we'll be doing, but DH and I were hoping to drive up to Ely and do some hiking.
