I would be down for weekly coupon thread.

My problem is, I've noticed the things that go on sale, and the things there are coupons for are not things we buy.

For instance, DH and I are both particular about what kind of deodorant we use, as well as toothpaste.  And we buy the same brand of chips nearly every week. So, how are we going to save money just waiting for these specific things to go on sale or come out with coupons?

Cause the crazy couponers only buy things that are free, regardless of if they like them or not. :)

Leslie - I am pretty saavy, surprisingly.   However I have trouble effectively using my coupons at NY and Co. and Express, so I suspect major grocery couponing is probably not for me.

I'd be up for a thread, at least to see if I could benefit!

I'm totally brand loyal.  I know what works best for me/us and it's hard to deviate.  I don't think I would do very well, but maybe I'm wrong.

Tiffany, Express is my weakness!  Embarrassed

Mine too except I get so pissed when I have $117 worth of items and I need $120 to get $40 off.  I really don't want to buy overpriced earrings or socks just to get the discount.

Man, I sound like a crabby old woman today don't I?

  • Hi ladies. I am back in the real world today.  BOO.  I spent some time yesterday catching up on all the threads.  I love all the interesting topics lately.

Our vacation was really fun, but we both got a little too much sun.  We are both a  itchy today!  I will post my vacation pictures on my blog soon if anyone is interested.

We also got the CD back from the pictures we had done for my mom as a Mother's Day gift.  I am SO pleased with how they turned out.  I have them up on FB now, but will add them to my blog.

I hope everyone is safe from the storms.  We had major weather in our area.  We lost part of our fence and will probably need a new roof and garage door from hail damage.  Oh brother...

HA I hear you for sure!  I'm like OK do I need some lip gloss or a tank top or earrings.  I've bought the lip gloss before and gifted it to my sister.  So sometimes it works out!  :)

Nope, I'm the exact same way at stores like that. Or it forces you to spend another $30 for one top just to get $40 off, which completely defeats the purpose. And I refuse to pay $30 for a pair of earrings when I could go get the exact same thing for $12 at Target, and they'd be just as cute.

  • It will be harder if you are brand loyal but you can still save money. The key for you guys will be to catch a sale when your brand is on sale and buy enough to last you until the next sale, which is generally anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months later -  so you don't have to buy 40 unless you are using 3 tubes of deodorant a week...if you are I think you might have larger things to worry about than coupons...

If you use a specialty salon brand shampoo and will not switch to something that is sold at a drugstore/grocery then you might be out of luck, but as long as you use brands at the store it will work.

There are very few things that I am brand loyal to.  DH is moreso than me, but I'm willing to buy whatever is cheapest!

I am open to the couponing info.  I am not sure I will be any good or have the patience for it but I need to give it a try.  We spend about 150-200 per week on groceries and other random items and I would love to cut it down.

Question though: Can you be brand loyal and still get good deals.  I am very loyal to certain brands of most items and will not just buy whatever is on sale that week.  Is it still possible to save a decent amount?

hahaha, that's kind of what I just said.

I'm very particular about a lot of the things we eat/buy.

In my experience, it varies.  Some brands hardly ever go on sale, if ever, so when they do you would want to stock up, if you can.

  • Well I can give it a shot for a few weeks and see if it's worth it for us!

Odd question but is anyone here good with resumes and think they could help me out with something? Big Smile

The only thing I have been told is to have your responsibilities in present tense, no -ed, even for past jobs.  Have you checked out the 9 to 5 board?  Sometimes they have good threads...I've only ever lurked.

I do remember seeing a groupon/living social/etc on resume help recently.

  • I am also willing to give it a shot.  The good thing is we always buy the same things (food and non-food) so I know what we need and I have no problems with buying multiple to stock up (in a reasonable way) to the next sale if it will stay good.

    Where?

I finally tried Greek yogurt yesterday and was surprised that it wasn't terrible.

  • It's at Sheer Luxury Salon and Spa on Round Grove Rd. in Lewisville.  Right near Vista Ridge mall.
  • The guys at the car wash that bug you about getting chips fixed in your windshield annoy the crap out of me. I have gotten to the point where I stop them before they even give me their speech when I see them coming.

Gah! Can't a person wash their car in peace anymore!?

  • Very excited about the book club selection for June.  This is one I read last year, but really look forward to discussing it with everyone.

    Great choice!

I tried the YoCrunch blueberry with granola.  Not bad.

  • I'm so distracted lately, I can't concentrate on anything! Sunday morning I was making waffles, and I left both the butter and the vanilla out of the batter. Then Monday night I made taco salad for dinner, buffet style, and I forgot to put out the black beans, corn and avocado. My brain is seriously turned off right now.

I once made banana pudding and left out bananas.

I know I will be too nervous to watch the Mavs game tonight.  Ben will try and make me but I don't think I can do it.  Part of me hates when we get this deep in the playoffs because I can't enjoy it.

Yesterday, I was so distracted that I rear-ended someone, forgot to get everything out of my cart to pay for it at Joann's and hit "no" when it asked me if the amount was correct.  Embarrassed
