My AW:  Ben's parents are giving us their old Honda for Melodie.  Well, we're buying it, but for next to nothing.  We were planning to get her a 2012 Hyundai.  So they essentially saved us about $17K.  Which means we can definitely take a small vacation this year.

Ben just emailed me and said In N Out is coming to Rockwall in 2012.

That is great news!!!   In light of this new information, where are you guys thinking of going?

*sigh* Well, that's the only disappointing part.  Since we were trying to be cheap, we were thinking of Hot Springs.  And Ben's really excited about going there now!  I am going to try and talk him back into Vegas.  He still doesn't want to do much in light of the fact that I will need a new car myself either this year or next.

Here is where we were thinking of staying:  http://lookoutpointinn.com/.  It does look really nice.

Stephie - If you go there you will love it!  It is owned and run by my former pastor (the one that married us) and her husband.  I have an album on FB if you want to check out more pics.

Yeah and honestly, I kind of like the idea of just going somewhere for a weekend and doing nothing but sitting and staring at a lake and eating breakfast.

    ETA:  Cool Lauren, thanks!

  • Stephie - The breakfasts were our favorite parts of the trip!

WTH is going on with FB?  I can't figure out how to send you a message so I'll just ask here.  What else did you do there?  Did you go to the hot springs?  Shortgirl posted a link to a spa which looked cool (which I can't find now of course).

  • I am super late this morning so I will have to play catch up.

I lost ANOTHER diamond in my ring and I am so pissed.  Its not like this was some cheap piece that we didnt invest a lot in but since it was from a local Omaha company I am screwed.

I am pretty sure I will finish The Help tonight it is just so good and such an easy read.  Thanks for suggesting it Lacey.

Tiffany - yay for installing the faucets, I could barely put the brita filter on.  Also, I think you will love the kindle, you wont miss the book thing.

I thought about going to the knottie G2G but most of the girls I know will be transitioning over here soon and there are so many I dont know.

Stephie- That is awesome about the car and vacation!

Natalie- I am no help on the jewelry I only own a couple of pieces total and on being slow in the morning, I am on but it seems like we are the only two.

Sorry for the double post. I just thought of a question.

How do you ladies keep your costume jewelery, I.e., earrings, necklaces, bracelets, from tarnishing and turning color? I'm talking the cheap stuff you buy at Target, Express, Forever 21.

I used to have one of those earring carosels but I noticed yesterday a pair of silver earrings I have only had about 2-3 months already tarnished/rusted before I got to wear them!! I think they were from Target. Now granted this stuff isn't expensive, but it's not made to be disposable either!

I've heard ziplock bags, I've heard clear glossy spray paint. Thoughts?

Ziplock bags work really well.  They have small ones at container store I think that are just the right size for your jewelry.  You could also maybe try Claires and see if they wouldn't mind giving you some of the bags the jewelry comes in. To get the spots out I have heard that if soak them in some warm water, salt and baking soda in bowl it should get the spots to go away.

We did go to bathhouse row, kinda just did our own walking tour.  We also took a boat tour of Lake Hamilton, played miniature golf (Chris' request for his birthday), had a couples massage, walked historical downtown and did a mini hike inside the national park.

Guess I'll be moving all my stuff to ziplock bags! This is going to be a project, I have a ton of stuff!

  • @Tiffany- That is something to really be proud of!!!  Also a Vegas questions, we are planning an October trip.  Do you know of any reputable sites for cheap(er) show tickets?

@Stephanie- What a sweet offer from your in-laws!

@Lauren- I just love your siggy pic.  It is beautiful.

Last night I was so desperate for TV, I watched Storage Wars.  I hate the TV "off-season."

  • My book for the book club will be here today yay!  I need to get on that though since most of you ladies are almost done with it and I haven't even started!  Was a date and place for the book club ever decided?

Storage Wars is one of the only shows DH watches that I can stand.  I think it is kind of interesting!

As far as Vegas show tickets, I'm not much help there.  DH is working on that part for us.

I wish.  I wanted to see Phantom of the Opera and nearly died when I saw the prices.

And we're back to going to Vegas now I think, yay!  We will definitely keep Hot Springs in mind though as that is something we can do anytime.  I love vacations.

  • For the girls looking for cheaper Vegas show tickets they have a half price ticket booth on the strip in a couple of places that you can get cheaper tickets.  I also get emails  from travelzoo from time to time about cheap show tickets.

Haha, same here.  Storage wars is so much better then some of the other shows my DH watches like ghost hunters and fact or fiction.

    Thank you saramc!

I didn't think the Phantom tickets were all that bad from the box office.... but I looked for August.    I'm kind of interested in the Lion King too.

The cheap seats were $79, and I think a step up was $112.   Now, no way I'm paying $179 to sit up front, though.

**off to sign up for Vegas deals from Travelzoo**

  • I paid $175 each for fifth row to the "Little Mermaid" on our HM, $150 each for seventh row "Jersey Boys", and Bill paid $125 each for mezzanine for "Wicked".  Granted those are NYC prices but....I got more enjoyment out of sitting closer and seeing faces.

    Try Theater Mania: http://www.theatermania.com/las-vegas/shows/

I used this site the last two time I went to NYC and got good prices (I think my off-Broadway show was B1G1 Free)

Oh and Tiffany, You'll learn to love the Kindle. I very much enjoy having something to just throw in my purse instead of lugging a bulky book around, especially when I fly
