I really don't feel like working today.
Re: Warm Wednesday Randoms
It is crazy hot in our house. Thankfully, Mike came home from work early yesterday to put in some window a/c units. He put one up in our room and Henry's room. But he wasn't able to get our living room one in yet.
Last night I used multiple ice packs (like the kind you use in coolers) to cool off. They were on my back, chest, forehead and underarms. It worked for a little while and reminded me of one of my college apartments. Third floor with no central air and no window units. I took a lot of ice baths that summer.
Ours too. When I left the house this morning it was 78. It'll probably be up to 86 by the time I get home tonight. I feel bad for the dog. I put a fan on her crate when I left so she at least gets a constant breeze. Fingers crossed the freon charge works until we can get something set up to have the unit replaced.
Wop, what are you thinking about doing with your hair? Any ideas? I have a hair appointment next week. I've been saying that I want to grow my hair out so that it's long enough to pull back (which it is now), but now I'm tempted to get it cut shorter again.
Hoektastic, that sounds miserable. I hope you're able to get some relief from the window air conditioners today. I'll be honest, I'd be having a continual meltdown if my house wasn't air conditioned.
It will probably be a similar bob like last time, but I want more dramatic bangs. For some reason stylists are afraid to give me bangs! I have to specifically ask them to cut my bangs, and they're never short enough. It's not like I have spiral curl hair and they won't look right. They must underestimate my styling abilities. LOL.
I was thinking something like this. Yay? Nay?
I like the length of this one a little more, but I wouldn't do straight cut bangs, I'd do a sideswipe:
I like it! It's funny because stylists always want to give me bangs! I tried it once, but I don't like how I look with bangs and glasses -- I think it's too much going on for my small face. I love the look of bangs though, just not on me.
It is definitely not enjoyable, but I am handling it better than I thought I would when we first moved in. The worst is the kitchen. It still has the original non-opening windows. I'm trying to use the grill as much as possible.
Ohhhh! I love that cut. I asked for bangs like that last time I got my hair cut, and the stylist refused.
Good grief, who are these bang Nazis that you and Wop are seeing!?
LOL. I have no idea. Maybe they're just not used to people asking for bangs. A lot of women I know freak out over getting bangs. I guess they worry about the maintenance? Bangs usually don't work for women that want/expect a wash and wear style, even though it only takes an extra 2 minutes to dry them properly. Most women I know have no idea what to do with their hair or don't like styling time, so they keep it long all the way around. Sure you can't pull short hair into a pony tail, but short(er) hair doesn't always = long styling time. I'm sure stylists see a lot of women that are afraid of shorter hair/bangs. It takes me 3x longer to style long hair than it does short hair, and mine is wavy/curly, and that's why I keep is shorter. My stylist actually seemed shocked that I blow dry and style my short hair on a daily basis.
Good Morning! I've been behind this week, I thought today was Thursday, yesterday was Wednesday, etc. It's kind of making the week drag on.
Sorry for those with no a/c - relief sounds like it's coming tomorrow! No a/c isn't an option for us due to that furry bear of ours. He honestly spends 80% of the summer plastered on top of the a/c vent. It's his happy place.
Wop - GL w/the cut - I think the Katie Holmes bob pic is super cute.
Well we have A/C we have a window unit in the kitchen and then fans blowing air from the kitchen into the dinning and living rooms. On our stair landing we have a stand alone unit that is pointed up the rest of the stairs toward our bedrooms with 2 more fans pulling the cool air in. There's about a 5 degree difference between the 2 floors.
So in SS name change news. BM and DH spoke yesterday. It didn't go well.
UGH OH
My random is that I covet people with straight hair on days like today. Mine will look like a hot mess once I set foot out into a hot humid day...
I feel so bad for those of you who do not have a/c!! I did not in my GR house...and thankfully I got married I moved into DHs house and it has "Air, glorious, AIR!". Wop...especially for you...I think I would have died last summer while I was pregnant if I did not have a/c. I probably would have ridden around in my car all day long with the air cranked...
No shame! Let those waves/curls fly! I put some mousse in my hair this morning and said f*ck it! It's not worth fighthing with today. I've got a wavy frizzy mess going on right now.
What's even worse is that the air in my car doesn't work right now either!!! Hopefully Nick can get it fixed soon. He's putting in a new compressor tonight to find out where the leak is coming from. Once he finds out what line is leaking, he can replace it. I'm drving his car today which does have AC, so that's nice. I'm not looking forward to my evening at home though. I think I might hang out in the (unfinished) basement all night and do laundry. LOL. At least I would be productive!
For reals - I've maybe straightened my hair 4 times in the past 3 weeks. I don't have the time or energy to fight it.
Goodness...I never have the time or energy to fight with mine! I usually like my curls...but the summer is killer! And Wop...we have a guest bedroom if you need it. LOL
My approach is just to quit washing my hair. Ha! But seriously, I've discovered dry shampoo and can now go three days between washings. Less washing = less blow drying and straightening.
Kasa, what exactly do you use?
I'm interested in trying this. How does this work? Tell me your routine.
We found a house that we like. A lot. We've not sold ours yet, but we're going to look at it tonight or tomorrow. Jim is smitten (like, "let's drop our price and get out to get this one NOW").
It's got a huge lot, a pole barn, a guest house (?!), and backs up right to a park with a playground.
Now see, I think that sounds awesome. However, I usually run in the morning which makes me become a sweaty monster. So my hair is soaked with sweat when I'm done - and I don't know if dry shampoo could ever combat that kind of grossness.
Oh - I'd be very tempted to go Team Jim.
Have you guys ever considered renting out your current home? I don't have the stomach to be a landlord, especially not even being in the same city, state, timezone as our property so we hired a management company and we don't even think about it anymore.
OH OH Oh I want to see!!
Here's my routine:
Day 1: Shampoo and style as usual.
Day 2: No product (luckily, my hair doesn't get greasy by day 2). Use a flat iron on my ends.
Day 3: Spray a dry shampoo on my roots at my temples and all around my forehead. Allow the dry shampoo to dry and then comb through. It soaks up the oil in my hair and gets rid of the greasy appearance. Use a flat iron on my ends.
Day 4-6: Rinse and repeat.
I have a bob, so the ends need to be smooth and relatively uniform, which is why I use the flat iron every day. It's pretty quick though to just flip my ends in as needed. If I didn't have a bob, I probably wouldn't need to use it at all on days 2 and 3.
I've tried a couple different dry shampoos. I first tried the Oscar Blandi from Sephora but it was $$$. Now I'm using Pssst which was cheap at Meijer. The cheaper version has been working fine.
The girls on the F&B board rave about Suave's dry shampoo, but I haven't been able to find it (I've looked at Target and Meijer).
JuliD, if I work out and get really sweaty, I have to shampoo my hair. I don't think the dry shampoo would work well enough, although I haven't actually tried it after a work out.
So, exercise screws up my hair routine... another excuse to avoid it, right?
Oh, wow, that sounds like a really tough situation. Good luck!!
