Re: BRIDEZILLAS... and one of our own

  • Really?  People actually act like this for real? She says, "A bridezilla isn't a bad thing.  It just means you are a smart, opinionated woman that knows what you want."

Please tell me this is scripted.

  • I've seen an episode here and there and it just made my blood pressure rise. Seriously, who acts like that? And if it's all for the show, why would you want such a huge audience THINKING you act like that? I remember seeing the one with the bride from Clearwater who was on the heavier side as was her fiance. She forced him to go to personal training sessions at 5am and she yelled at him from the sidelines while eating donuts. Who does that?!

  • I personally think the show is utterly ridic and refuse to watch and give them my ratings.  It's completely scripted - have you ever known a girl or woman to act like that on their wedding day?  I am going to go out on a limb here and say the show doesn't represent who Krystal actually is as a person, merely just scripting and "guiding" from the producers to act a certain way for the cameras.

I remember seeing an article about this girl and she confirmed that the training session/donut thing was completely forced on her by the producers and she wasn't too thrilled to have to act like that.

Yeah, I can't watch this show, it's too ridiculous for words. Completely insulting to everyone involved.

Also, I was getting so annoyed a few weeks ago at work when some coworkers were talking about the show and saying things like "omg, those women are so crazy, I can't believe they act like that." Finally one brilliant coworker was like "Guys, do you think maybe it's scripted at all?" It had never even occurred to any of them that it was fake...uggggghhhh...

I haven't yet read the article involving the nestie so let me do that now..

  • I've known about her being on the show for a while now & have met Krystal IRL. She is nothing like what they are portraying her as! It's all in good fun & how she is "acting" for the cameras-I just see the show as entertainment :-)

  • Does she come on this board?

  • Yeah, I saw that one too.  I was just talking to my friend about this today. We were saying, who would ever allow their friend to treat them that way?!  I would refuse to be in the wedding.

  • I know it is scripted and all, but would be so embarassed for anyone to even THINK I acted that way....

Just from my internet interactions with her I would never expect her to act that way IRL. I just thought it was neat to finally figure out why cameras were following her around all week.

  • Dude how are you 30 wks?? Your pregnancy is flying for me....lol...how are you feeling?

I feel fabulous honestly. I can't believe in 10 or so weeks I will get to meet the little guy. Ps I haven't forgotten about the cleaning lady.. I just really lost hyer phone number in the midst of switching phones. Just e-mailed my mom again for her number. Sorry

  • Wait, I have no idea who KrystalSn....(whatever) is!  This is someone who has been on the Nest before?  Or just the knot?

My BFF's cousin was taped for my Super Sweet 16 and they cut the taping short when she refused to treat her parents like crap on camera.  They said she wasn't the right material for the show and skipped town.

  • Good for your BFF's cousin!  I completly agree with what she did.  Yeah, being on tv would be fun, but not if the world views you as a complete bit**!

  • I actually was flipping through the channels last night and caught the show, since it said it was in Clearwater.  I wanted to see if I could spot any wedding vendors I knew because some of them had posted on facebook about the show.

I don't know this girl at all and haven't seen her on our board (since I don't post that much maybe I missed it) but if she isn't really like that IRL, then why would you ever want to be portrayed like that?  I just think it's really embarrassing but some people will do whatever to be on tv I guess?

I will say that I have seen a few bridezillas.. luckily not too many... and I just don't understand how someone can NOT enjoy their wedding day and be so unhappy that they treat people like crap.  But they exist people... I can attest to it.  Unfortunately.

  • Did anyone hear them talking about Krystal on the MJ morning show today? She used to work at the station so the crew was saying how they remember her as a really sweet person and it seems odd that she'd try to be a bitchyy bridezilla. They played some clips from her episode.

I'm sure she's really nice and I don't know her but I agree with what some others have said. What on earth would motivate someone to go on a show like that and portray themselves so badly. Do the bridezillas get paid? Maybe she will respond to this post and give us some insight. But then again, I think reality show contestants often sign those clauses where they can't talk about anything.

This exactly.  To be portrayed like that on tv is embarrassing and humiliating.

  • I just read the article that OP posted... and it says they get $2500 to appear on the show.  Not worth it IMO... now maybe if it was $25,000 :)

But my favorite part of the article was this quote from the H about the wedding - "turned into an amalgamation every crappy wedding idea she read on a blog."

I'm sorry but this is just really funny, because it's true.  There are so many brides out there who see something online, on the knot, on a blog, whatever and they have to have it.  I definitely found an idea or two on a blog, but I think it's just funny to hear the guy describe it like that.  :)

  • I can't stand the types of shows that glorify and celebrate such horrid behavior.  Like everyone has said, I just don't understand why anyone who isn't like this IRL would want people to think that they behave like completely psychotic b***hs.  It's sad really.

  • Please weigh in on this Krystal.  I'm dying to know why on earth you would do something like this?  Are you trying to be famous like balloon boy?

Here is her latest blog post:  http://www.krystalskitsch.com/2011/06/so-im-in-star-magazine-this-week.html

Lol! We didn't even say anything rude. We just wondered why she'd want to go on a show like that. Did she really expect that no one would have an opinion?

  • Meh.  People tend to get all butthurt when you tell them things they don't/didn't want to hear, even if it is the truth.

  • I agree. I don't think anything was mean.  I would like to hear her side of it though, why she agreed, if she regrets it, etc.

This is my favorite quote from The Knot - "what a bunch of rotten hags! Why the hell would you have to justify being on the show anyway? if thats what you wanted to do who's business is it? If you DO in fact get compensation.. the amount the said seems like a lot of money to me.. maybe they are just spoiled biitches."

    This has me cracking up.

  • That is pretty awesome that we are called rotten hags and scary when we are talking about an episode of bridezillas where a girl is screaming obscenities and telling her bridesmaids it's an honor and privilige to be in her wedding.

Maybe it's the English teacher in me but I sure love some good irony.

    :)

  • It's a little startling to see a thread (mostly negative) about yourself on a forum that you visit daily. I wasn't going to answer anything at all (because I don't have to answer to anyone, let alone strangers online), but I thought by staying silent it only made things worse.

Since you don't know me, I'll give you a background. You obviously heard I work in radio. This means I'm someone with an outgoing personality who loves dramatizing stories, being on air or in front of the camera, someone who plays pranks just because, and someone who likes to laugh at herself. I've been in radio on and off since college and it's just something that I've always done for fun. Additionally, I'm in graduate school (Getting the Master's this summer!) and work full time in a professional position.  I try to think of myself as a little bit crazy, a little bit serious ... but mainly a whole lot of fun.

Perhaps instead of all the "Why would anyone want to be portrayed that way on national TV" questions should think of my viewpoint: "Why wouldn't I want to share my wedding on national TV, why wouldn't my friends & I want to act ridiculous on camera, why wouldn't I want to get paid for something I'm already doing?" (the compensation amount in the article is WAY incorrect by the way). Maybe I'm younger than you all are, maybe I'm in a different place professionally and socially. Whatever the case is -- when I suggested this to my bridal party, friends, and family.... they jumped on board. They thought it was hilarious (and they still do).

While some "bridezillas" are worse than others, I made sure not to do anything I would be too embarrassed of. Did anyone even see the show or was everyone just assuming I acted like a psycho? The episode that aired Sunday was hilarious! While the editing did cut out a lot, it was still mainly accurate and showed us partying, me shopping for liquor. It was silly. Again, nothing in there that I was embarrassed of or humiliated by. Those are things I typically would do or I ended up doing due to mass quantities of alcohol.

Anyone who takes Bridezillas (or any reality show for that matter) as 100% serious should re-examine their beliefs on what is "reality." It's common sense that people act differently when in front of a camera. Not only that, but what is reality is boring. They wouldn't want to film that. They want dramatization. They want something interesting. I can see that people on reality shows know this and give the producers what they want.

And, yes, I did say on The Knot that you ladies were not so nice. I'm not the first person to do so actually. There have been a few posters who said The Nest was not very welcoming. I didn't believe it and I still don't. You are all allowed to have your opinions and it seems I'm just the only one with mine. :)

    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • As long as you are happy with yourself, our opinions really don't matter you know.  I think most of us really just don't like the show in general and are pretty much horrified by the concept of it which is obviously our own personal taste.  I think many of us just wondered what would cause someone to want to be on a show like that since we ourselves do not feel that way.  Whether or not you wanted to explain it is your own personal choice but here on the Nest, we talk about all kinds of current social trends (notice the CA trial updates daily) and since Babybch posted that, of course it was going to become a discussion as well.

And I think most of us know there is no such thing as a "reality show"... except maybe COPS?

On a side note, one of my sorority sisters was on the reality show Temptation Island when I was in college and she got just as much criticism.  I think when you put yourself in the public eye like that, you need to expect to get scrutinized -- I'm sure you already thought of that -- and you just need to have thick skin.  If you are happy with yourself and your behavior/actions, then just block everything else out, but people are going to give their opinions because that's what people do.

  • Oh absolutely. :) I have been laughing at the Twitter comments about us. Again, I see this as a huge joke. I just was a little sad about this thread since this is a forum I do enjoy using and hope to use it in the future. Strangers making fun of me is fair game, but you ladies are people I feel like I "know" even though I don't.
