Your Dream Backyard

What would be in your dream backyard?

A beautiful lawn?
Fruit trees?
An infinity pool?
A fire pit?
Full basketball court?
Tennis court?
Miniature golf?

These are just ideas to get you going.

For the purpose of this exercise, assume your backyard is in the Los Angeles vicinity.  LOL.

Re: Your Dream Backyard

  • Buried treasure.
  • Nice deck with screened porch which leads to a patio that connects to an in ground pool.  Then there is some low maintenance plants, some grass and another converstaion area with a fire pit.

An outdoor tv would be a bonus.

Oh and no neighbors behind us, love that about our current house.

  • The things I really love about my backyard:
    My pool and hot tub
Orange and Grapefruit Trees (I have the best fuccking oranges evah!)
    Palm trees
    Covered patio area

What I would love to change:
Outdoor kitchen area with wet bar
gas fire pit for the chilly california winter nights
    MOAR PALM TREES

I'd also love a garden...but not one I had to tend to because I have a black thumb, But I really like my back yard, it is kickass. If we were staying longer, I would add all the things I want.

  • If I lived in Southern CA?

Fruit trees, small pool (with a tanning shelf), nice patio furniture, outdoor bbq/cooking area, fire pit

  • Is it bad that I'd rather not have a backyard?

I hate doing yard work, and generally it is too damn hot to go outside here anyways.

Were I forced to have a dream backyward, my list would have to be astericked with air conditioning and a gardener on staff.

  • no lawn, mature trees (one fruiting would be great), dining area w/ outdoor kitchen, sunken seating area with fire pit. also, hammock in a hidden away nook.

    no pool, no sports!

  • Nice patio/deck (but also a screened in porch with ceiling fans).
Some kind of outdoor kitchen area maybe with a wood burning oven.
I think I also want some outdoor couches and a fire pit. A nice grass area with lots of plants (very lush feeling with tons of flowers). Some kind of water feature, maybe a pool.

I really want a space that can entertain a lot of people but also be nice for relaxing and for the kids to kick a ball around or whatever.

ETA: Oh I am going to add a bunch of fruit trees, berry bushes and a place for a garden!

  • Waterfront on a lake suitable for waterskiing, dock, boat.  Firepit.  Deck.  Mature trees.

And magically, an absence of mosquitoes.

  • stamped concrete patio, brick fire pit, lots of mature trees, open grass area for the kids

A dream backyard would come with dream maintenance provided by someone else!

Pretty much this but maybe a little lawn.  Especially the trees.  I also love natural arbors of wisteria vines and the like over sitting areas.  Oh, and I would like a big garden too.

  • A backyard kitchen pretty please:

My dream backyard is on a lake and has a cute little dock that I can jump off of and go swimming, plus put a little boat up to it. But the lake isn't so big that people go waterskiing, because it is loud and annoying and I don't do it.

There is also: a firepit, lots of comfy conversation areas, an outdoor kitchen, and a hot tub.

Mature trees as well as a grassy/sunny area for croquet or other lawn sports.

I should not be able to see my neighbors.

  • Where you live, a full complement of citrus trees, maybe a date palm.  A pool, shaded deck and an outdoor kitchen.

I'm not really into large lawns, I really like less formal English garden look, but that's harder to do in SoCal than here.

  • A pool and a lawn surrounded by sand dunes and a staircase leading straight down to the beach.

Our tiny patio is OUT OF CONTROL with mosquitoes.

  • Lots of land.
    image
  • Pergola of some sort of material that wouldn't rust or rot.

    6' privacy fence

Smallish outdoor kitchen (natural gas grill with 2 extra burners, sink, smoker)

Add a deck off our bedroom (requires turning a double window into french doors), attach that to our main deck (1 floor below).

Retractable awning over our current 12x20' deck.

Large paver or stamped concrete patio with lounge furniture, under the pergola.

Under deck storage for our kayak, like this http://www.suspenzkayakstorage.com/

DH would want a pool, I wouldn't want the extra HOI expense and safety issues.

The lounge furniture would require us building a loft in our garage to store it during the winter.

ETA: Disregard the need for storing the lounge furniture in the LA area. Add citrus and fig trees, maybe an olive tree. Definitely add the pool.

  • A veranda, fire pit, outdoor kitchen, LOTS of fruit trees, outdoor shower and an infinity pool overlooking the LA skyline.
    ::insert witty comment::
  • Nice big lawn, saltwater pool, vegetable garden and fruit trees, lots of flowers and landscaping.

Also a nice covered patio (maybe a pergola) with comfy furniture - think the couches rather than regular outdoor furniture. Definitely with a fire pit, bar (with sink, water and ice maker) and a nice big grill that has the fridge and stove top burners.

  • I would also want one of those houses where you can open up the entire wall to become indoor/outdoor space. Like this but awesomer

    image

  • A fence (for doggies!)

Swimming pool (doesn't have to be infinity but those ARE pretty) but only if the yard is big enough that I can still have lots of grass AND the pool. I hate back "yards" that are nothing but a swimming pool.

Beautiful lawn for sure, surrounded by trees all around. A really serious grill.

I'd want fruit trees, a veggie garden (or at least a herb garden), mature trees, bird feeders, a table for eating/drinking, a sofa for sleeping, reading, drinking, soft night lighting, a small lawn, maybe some water somewhere - either a pond, pool, or running fountain.  And climbing vines like bouganvilla or jasmine.

  • insom, you know damn well that none of those things are going to work for me because I don't live in the woods.

Well, maybe we can have that wicker dome bed contraption.  LOL.

  • You want Lady Gaga and a hobo camp in your backyard, insom?
