Re: Your Dream Backyard
Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle!

This picture has always made me fantasize about living in CA:
No grass. I hate grass.
Stone patio or some kind of deck. Part of it covered.
A pool. I'd like something modern looking, but DH would insist that the pool shape be skatable.
Outdoor kitchen including pizza oven & kegerator.
Fruit and avocado trees.
Veggie garden, but only if someone else took care of it.
Furniture suitable for napping.
Insom...allow me to steal the movie screen backyard...it would be a great Idea to watch ABDC on it
As long as it's a Kindle, I endorse your plan.
1) Privacy.
2) Outdoor lounge/living room and a full, high end outdoor kitchen.
3) Pool and/or hot tub.
4) Nice landscaping, but not high maintenance. (I want to be able to do the work myself, not hire someone to do it because it takes too much time.)
H and I have many a conversation about our dream home and we've come to the conclusion that the outdoors is far more important than anything inside. Our deck/outdoor area right now is sub-par, but it's still where we spend them majority of our time in the warmer months.
We have a big hillside so I would want a deck built into the hill, a saltwater pool/spa, a small play area for the kids, a built in grill/entertainment area with a fireplace and tvs, and would like to utilize part of the hill to grow grapes for wine. Oh, and I would want to stick with California natives as much as possible for landscaping.
My H is spending a lot of time at Home Depot these days in the hopes that he catches up with the Yard Crashes crew.
eta: I love these images for your place, all via decorpad:
Gorgeous lawn, stone patio, pergola, a curvy pool with stone around it (not those ugly cement patios that generally come with pools), fire pit built into the ground, and a garden.
I do not have kids yet but if I did I would also want a playhouse & a swingset.
I want a lot.
This is almost exactly what I was thinking, minus the jacuzzi. Let's throw in a koi pond and some fruit trees, too. lol
The beach, just step out onto sand, and have my own private little beach paradise.
Or like this expansive deck, that looks over expansive lawn onto expansive Atlantic Ocean.
The Breakers Newport RI.
I hate the outdoors. My dream backyard would be nonexistent.
For you I'd go with lots of fruit trees, a nice pool and pretty flowers.
ETA, oooh and a hammock!
Pretty much any home backyard featured in Frontgate catalogue.
Infinity pool that looks like it is one with the ocean. A few palm trees. Bougainvillea on the columns and archways of the outdoor living room, complete with fireplace (no pit for me). Pool house that has an entertainment room, with multiple french doors so that it has that inside/out feel. Really great outdoor lighting. (sigh)
