Re: my choice for Interview A Nestie for tomorrow is...
Do I make a new post or questions in this one?
What first drew you to Jon?
What do you think are his top three qualities?
My favorite ice cream flavor is Cookies n' Cream. My favorite version of that is Ben & Jerry's Sweet Cream & Cookies
If we could go anywhere on vacation this year, I'd love to do Italy. I lived there for a semester in college but Jon has never been and I would love to go back. We tried to make it happen this fall but with Jon interviewing, it just didn't work out. We're going back to CA instead, so that's ok
)
I like my eyes the best..I have very blue eyes and long, thick black eyelashes.
I dislike my hips and thighs. They're wide. And getting wider. It's not good.
what is your title?
is it what you envisioned doing with your life?
i know you and Jon didnt date for a very long time prior to being married, just like Andy and i, do you ever feel like you should have dated longer?
whats your favorite wine?
what was your favorite from your tastings over the weekend?
Before I got offered the job I have now, he actually phone interviewed me for another job at this company. My best friend worked here too and when I got off the phone with Jon I called her and said "he has the sexiest phone voice" and she said "Um. No. Just no." (I don't think her husband is hot either, so it's ok
) ) So I guess the very fist thing was his voice. After actually meeting him, working with him and him taking me out to lunch after losing a bet, I just really liked how calm and funny he was. He has a sense of humor that I really like.
1) He is so calm and reasonable. All the time. No matter what is happening, he can suggest a solution. He is like my exact opposite. In a time of turmoil, my default response is running around with Muppet-y arms. His is to figure out the problem and make it better.
2) He really does have a sexy voice
) And great hands. And he's 6'5'' and has lost 75 pounds because one day he "just decided to start running..." He just does it for me
)
3) He's such a great friend. I am not. I am the type of person who has let dozens of friendships wither on the vine because I forget to call or email. I have the awful habit of just falling off the planet (and then when I remember I feel awkward like it's too late to return the call/email and then it just gets worse from there). Jon is the exact opposite. Jon will call/email his friends on at least a monthly basis if he hasn't heard from them. He is just so good at cultivating and keeping relationships going. I admire that quality.
My title is officially "List Rental Coordinator" which means nothing because my boss made it up. She re-makes up her own title every few years when she has to fill out paperwork for something..she has to ask "What do you think my title is again?" It's kind of comical.
Um, no. Firstly because I didn't realize that List Rental was even an industry, but secondly because I spent my college career working towards becoming a high school English teacher only to get into the classroom in my senior year and realize what a terrible idea it would be. I got this job because my best friend worked here and then she left and I got her job and my job. Currently it's a 3 person department and I'm the only one who can do all the jobs.My job is not amazing, but I make a decent amount of money and the perks are unbeatable. It would be tough to leave this job at this point.
We dated for I think 2 years before getting engaged and honestly, I have never thought, "wow, we really should've waited longer." In my opinion, at our age/maturity/experience level, after a couple of years together you can tell it's either going down that road or it isn't, and if it's not then it's time to stop wasting each others time. After 2 years, I felt really solid about things and I still do. If at the same point, I hadn't felt good about it, we probably shouldn't have been together at all, ya know?
I'm a fan of bright citrus-y whites and lighter fruity reds. I am a fan of most Sauvignon Blanc, Vidal Blanc, Beaujolais, Cabernet Franc, some Reislings. I am less a fan of mineral-y whites and smoky, black cherry reds.
I didn't realize when we went that the Niagara region was so big on Reislings and ice wines. It was kind of fantastic. We stopped by Royal DeMaria and did a tasting, we were the only people there and the guy let us try ice wines from bottles that cost $3,000 and up. It was amazing.
For some reason I thought you guys had dated <1 year before getting engaged. Sorry!
Also- May is Riesling month in the Finger Lakes if you ever decide to make a trip there. Normally the wineries run a B1G2 on Rieslings that month. And you're right. that area has some delicious Rieslings.
More questions related to your alter-ego:
How long have you watched HIMYM?
Is Barney your favorite character?
Is it your favorite show, or just one you enjoy?
This made me LOL. Love it. Plan to use it someday.
Ohhh, nope, we were together almost 2.5 years before getting engaged!
We did pass through the Finger Lakes region! We have a couple of friends who live in Albany so I think we're going to plan a trip with them maybe for later this fall. B1G2 is an awesome deal!! I'll put it on our calendar! Thanks!
We started watching HIMYM from the beginning. Since then, we've gone back and watched the DVDs of the first couple of seasons too.
I do
Barney the best, yes. Marshall is a close second but I can't shake the uneasy feeling that Jason Segal might be a douche in real life. So for some reason that taints my feeling about Marshall. I realize that makes no sense.
I think HIMYM may be my favorite show. Admittedly, I DVR a lot of television..I also like Private Practice, Mad Men and Rescue Me among others!
We're a big fan of taking long weekends to places close by or doing day trips. Some of our favorites included:
Mystic, CT, Portland, ME, Portsmouth, NH and Rockport, MA
we've done others but I think those were my favorites!
It was a running joke in college too that I was the last person you wanted around in an emergency because I'd just run in circles yelling "danger! danger!" So even before Jon I was a mess :op
Gonna stick with that works:
What is your biggest pet peeve evar?

What's your favorite Boston restaurant and why?
Recommend something from its menu.
What's your favorite restaurant period? Why?
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your days, what would it be?
I f'ing hate rude, entitled people. I hate hearing someone in a restaurant or retail setting talking to a server or an employee like they are stupid or as if they deserve special treatment. It makes me embarrassed for that person and makes me wonder how they got to that place in their life.
Oohh..That is hard. There are so many places in Boston that I like. I don't know if I can narrow it down, so I'm not going to
)
I love Neptune Oyster..it's so cliche, but it really is the best, without question. Aside from the oysters which are always the freshest and most delicious, their hot buttered lobster roll is like a dream. Their chowder, the crudo..it's all amazing.
I have never had a bad meal at Temple Bar. I like the vibe there and their chef knows what he's doing. No particular dish, but it really is all done well.
Grotto. Oh my goodness. Garlic soup. And their gnocchi. Oh my gosh, that soup.
Not Boston, but Malden - All Season Table Restaurant is the best sushi around. No question. It's a pain in the a$$ to get to, but it's worth it. Try sushi pizza, you will not be sorry.
Last one, I really love Franklin Cafe in the South End. It's so home-y, the bartender is fantastic and the food is comfort-y. I wish it were closer so it could be my neighborhood hangout.
What is your favorite song right now?
What's the best movie you've seen recently?
What's your favorite candy?
When you decide to have babies, how many do you want? Boys or girls? Any names picked out?
Do you have any traits that you hope your kids get from you? Any of Jon's?
I totally ignored the rest of your post after the Boston stuff :op
My favorite restaurant period is Michael Chiarello's Bottega in Napa Valley, CA. It was amazing.
French Laundry, Per Se and Le Bernardin were the 3 best meals I ever ate in my life, I will probably not ever have meals that amazing again. Bottega made amazing food and threw in a relaxed, fun atmosphere and it was overall just a pleasure.
Bottega's ricotta gnocchi. I would eat it every single day with no complaints at all.
Or, you know, sushi. I could eat raw fish and cooked eel pretty happily every single day
)
My favorite song right now is *blush* Katy Perry's "ET". How awful is that. I can't get it out of my head. My favorite album is Adele though!!
Hm. I don't know that I've seen any great movies lately. We rented Life as We Know It and I didn't hate it...We've also see Love & Other Drugs which I didn't love, Limitless, which..ya know..Bradley Cooper
but the movie was a little weird and oh! We saw Cedar Rapids which I thought was so cute. I liked that one the best of the movies we've seen this year.
I am a Skor bar/Heath bar fan.
I think I'd like to have 2 and I'd like girls
) I appreciate having a sister in my life and think that would be fun. Although I know raising us was difficult. The two names we've agreed on are Lydia Helene and Noah..something. Jon wants Noah Xavier, but it's based on a joke. So that seems weird. And Noah is super popular, so maybe that will change too.
I hope they get my more optimistic outlook on things and maybe my eyes. I hope they get at least a little of Jon's height and his calm demeanor. And if our kids could inherit our shared love of naps, that would be awesome too
)
Do you have a bag picked out already for when you go Coach shopping this afternoon? PIP?
If you could have any job, what would you be?
Would you eat a live octopus for $1,000?
I do not have a bag picked out. I haven't even looked online to get an idea. I want it to fit my work laptop and that's really all the idea I have so far. I'll PIP tonight when it is mine though!
Besides supermodel or famous Broadway actress? :op I think I'd probably like to go into the magazine industry as..something. With my current skill set probably an Editor or copywriter? If I went back to school for something I'd kind of like to be a librarian. I know, dreaming big! Woohoo! But I worked in the library for 3 years of college and really liked it.
whats your favorite meal to cook?
to bake?
what is something you havent made but you would like to attempt some day?
do you have any family recipes that are "secrets"?
do you even know how jealous I am of all of this right now? Scott and I were just talking about trying to plan a trip to Napa Valley, and discussed wanting to eat at Bottega for sure, and debating on whether it was worth the money to go to French Laundry.
I got distracted with work and missed the octopus part.
Not for a grand, no. I'm pretty adventurous so far as eating goes and I don't even like octopus cooked. I can't imagine that raw would be better. Ugh. It's so chewy and disgusting. Oh the suction cup thingies!! No. A grand would not be enoughLately we're doing a lot of pork tenderloins which are fun and delicious. My favorite meals to cook are the ones where I can marinate a piece of meat and have it come out juicy and delicious. It's taken a lot of practice for me to get this right, I am not a natural in the kitchen by any means.
Heath bar blondies are my favorite thing ever to bake. My husband loves blueberry squares.
i actually have a list going of things I would like to attempt in the kitchen! It includes: macarons, lobster, souffle, cake (I've never made a cake! ever!), pad thai, beets, short ribs, coq au vin, wellington, cioppino, making my own bread and lemon curd.
My mom was not a big cook, so no, we have no secret family recipes. She did give me a vegetarian lasagna recipe that I make a lot and love!
Jon's best friend/best man is crazy rich. CRAZY rich. And he loves that Jon & I like talking about food/chefs/wine etc and he loves to make these reservations and then take us out for a meal at these kinds of places. He's a total wine guy so we end up with these crazy bottles of wine and this huge meal and I am so so grateful for these experiences that I would not get to have otherwise. He's awesome.
Oh my gosh. French Laundry is worth the money. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity (we went on our honeymoon and hadn't yet been to Per Se and didn't think we were ever going to Per Se) and it's worth it. We stuck to just a glass of champagne and a glass of wine a piece and the food was just ridiculous. The Oysters & Pearls first course is something you will be dreaming about. We were in love and then when they had it at Per Se too, we kind of freaked out with excitement.
Even just trying to get a reservation was exciting. We knew we'd be in Napa on the 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th of September so we had to call exactly two months ahead of those dates. The first three days we got put on the waiting list. On the fourth day when the woman actually said "great, we'll just need a card to hold the reservation" I was so surprised I nearly dropped the phone.
ETA: And definitely do Bottega too! And get the ricotta gnocchi. And the Polenta Under Glass appetizer (if you're a wild mushroom fan). And the short ribs if they're still there..
What's the best book you've read recently?
What's your favorite book of all time?
Do you have a favorite place that you like to read?
If you had to live somewhere else where would you go?
If someone was coming to your town for one day what are three things they would have to do/see?
Recently - I just finished The 19th Wife, which I really liked. Also, Ruth Reichl's books.
All Time - All of Douglas Adams books and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.
I like to read in bed. Or on my couch with a blanket and some tea.
If I could live anywhere, I would move to the San Francisco area.
Ouch. If someone was coming to Waltham they'd be hard pressed to find three things they'd have to do. If there were coming to Boston in general, I'd say Fanuiel Hall, The North End and a Red Sox game.
