am I just a cheap a$$

That I'm blown away that 1 dozen cupcakes is $46?!

I'm trying to order some for a bachlorette party on Sat and Crave is that much!

I don't even think theirs are super great!!

I'm skeered to check sprinkles.

i'm a cheapass too.  one of closeby cupcakeries has a happy hour every day right before they close with half price cupcakes.  that's more along my price range.

I am not a huge fan of Crave either.  At pook's parties, the hosts got amazing cupcakes from HEB.  They look just like Crave cupcakes, but taste better (not as dry)

  • I wouldn't. I think TxSun is a fancy cupcake maker if I recall correctly.  I'd check with her before I spent $48 on some cupcakes.

The HEB on Buffalo Speedway does great cupcakes for $2 a piece.  Lots of choices too.

However I'm sure the Nestie bakers could make fantastic ones somehow less than $46/dz

  • Goodness....I guess rent is a pretty penny in Uptown Park.

I like Sugarbaby's, I know they are cheaper, maybe $30 per dozen. Otherwise Central Market isn't that far, I might try there or like PAGAS suggested, HEB. You might also try Acadian Bakery, I'm not sure if they do cupcakes, but they certainly have great tasting cakes!

  • a) anyone without a fancy storefront in uptown park is going to be cheaper than crave.  that's definitely not a budget baked goods location, more of a designery place to buy (as is sprinkles/highland village).

    b) no way in heck would i pay that for a dozen!  on super special days i'll run there and get a half dozen or something, because my kids get excited when i show up with crave cupcakes in all their favorite flavors.  somehow, dropping twenty-something is more palatable than almost 50 bucks.  not that it makes any sense!!!

if i can get cupcakes that delicious at HEB in a variety of flavors, i may be gaining 900 pounds soon.  this is not information i needed...lol.

by our old office in rice village, Celebrity Cupcakes was pretty good, although the owner was kind of witchy when i tried to actually talk to her.

for short notice local stuff where HEB cupcakes would be frowned upon (you know, stuff Kel is attending ; )  ) I usually go to Cakes by Joula on 518/45.

honestly, my favorite cupcakes are grocery-store frosting on chocolate.  period.  and no damn sprinkles either, i want my frosting smooth.

even if I need them by Saturday? Embarrassed

  • That is crazy that they charge that amount. Would they be doing a special decoration on it too?

I would so go with HEB and add bachelorette decor yourself. I like Sam's cupcakes. I got like 2 dozen for under $20. I love their cakes and their whipped cream icing.

  • I must be an even cheaper ass, b/c I'd just make them myself.

For Ian's birthday I made 4doz myself, and they looked and tasted fine.  Just piped a swirl of icing on top of each one with a star tip.

Haha, so much for Jessica's best kept secret! They look better than Crave...they do more fancy stuff with the topping. :)  There's an up close photo of them on my Facebook birthday album.  Jess uses them all the time, but you could print out the photo to show them what you want, if you want to use them (HEB Buffalo Speedway).

I also have a friend who does an AMAZING job, if any of the nesties can't do it, send me a FB or email. I'll give her #.  She used to work for a baker in LA, now she just does cupcakes and cakes for fun.  I think I paid her $70 for 100 or 150 mini cupcakes with pretty intricate (ok, me being anal) decorations.  They were fresh strawberry and vanilla bean (2 diff flavors).

I use them a lot.  They are so pretty.  I'm surprised people use the pricey places when there is this option.

  • I just yesterday ordered a dozen cupcakes from Crave and they were only $36. I like that you can order the little fondant decorations to match your color/theme. Personally, I think their cupcakes are the best in town, but that's just personal opinion. (try the lemon blueberry!)

  • I can't stand the cupcakes from crave. I've never had a good one from there.

I make my own and when I've done them for nesties I def. don't charge that much.

Let me know what you are thinking and I might be able to help ya out.

  • That's beyond crazy! For Swim Team I use Sam's Club. It's about $13 for 30 cupcakes. I just go in and pick whatever out of the case, take the plastic toy off and replace it with my Penguin gummies. The kids love them!

I think we are going to do LC Barracudas.  I did it when I was in Elem and Jr. High and loved it.  My nephews swim there as well.
