H's 30th birthday. Vent!

MH's big 3-0 is in a few weeks. He is always so hard to do birthday stuff for! First of all, he absolutely doesn't want a party for the big birthday. He also doesn't want to get together with his family. He doesn't want to do anything that involves trying to get a big group of people together because they usually end up canceling on him or letting him down in some way. Plus, his friends are just like him and hate getting together for parties. They only like to hang out with each other, just the guys. Fun group, huh? Lol. His favorite things to do for his birthday would be: relax at home with me, possibly golf with his friends, and have me cook him food. He has no desire to go out to eat at a restaurant or anything like that.I can't surprise him with an outing or day trip or something, he won't want to go.

In terms of gifts, there is nothing I can really get him! He has no interest in clothes, watches, things of that nature. I can't think of any technologically-based toys he'd want or need. I'm thinking of FB messaging one of his best friends to see if he might have some hidden insight into something H might like. Maybe I'll do that tonight. In the past, I've gotten H gift cards for the movies or his favorite food places. I know that sounds lame, but he likes them. However, that made more sense back when we were still bf/gf with separate money, you know?

Argh, I've GOT to do something special for his 30th! Obviously nothing big, since he doesn't want it, but something that will be special for him. Ok- sex- fine, I'll have that covered :p I know that's all men really want for their b-days. But I want to do something else! Why is he so difficult. In past years I've totally appreciated how lazy I get to be with his birthdays, since he barely wants me to do anything for him, but I feel guilty with this being such a milestone b-day.

Just a vent but let me know if you ever have this problem with your H! Or if you have any suggestions, not that I have given you much to go on, lol.

  • If he doesn't want anything big, why do you feel the need to do something big? (not being snarky..just saying)

MH just turned 30 Monday, and while he would love me to buy him a boat or a gun ..it's just not happening. I bought him some shorts & flip flops & a magazine subscription to a fishing magazine (also things he needed/wanted) and called it a day. We are going to dinner tonight, but only because my Dad wants to take him out for sushi.

He didn't want a bit party..nor am I trying to plan a  party for no one to show up to (ahem, last year)..

MIL & BIL came over for lunch and cake and he was fine w/ that.

  • Just buy him a basket-full of stuff from The Todd and call it a day.  Give the man what he wants.

  • Yeah I hear ya. And he would say the same thing- "why are you trying to do something big for me?" He's so good at putting together fun and special plans for me, though, so I wish I could return the favor. I always try to do something cute for his birthday but it's never very exciting. One year I was so proud of myself because I bought him a new digital camera. Except.... the camera was really more for me, and he knew it. To this day he still teases me about "his" camera and what a great gift it was for "him"...haha. Just wish I could really wow him!
  • What if you bought a golf outing for him and three of his buddies? Not somewhere expensive or anything, just a local golf course. Then when he gets home you have his favorite meal waiting for him? I know, so 1950s housewife but it sounds like something he'd like.
  • MH always enjoys a good blow job for his birthday. You can't go wrong with that. I'm just saying.

Lol- we were there together once a long time ago and there was actually something he wanted to buy for me that I vetoed. Maybe I should get him that! Stick out tongue (No way)

That's pretty much what I'll end up doing for him, and you're absolutely right, he'll love it! Except I don't even need to buy the golf outing because we belong to our neighborhood golf club, so that's covered. In years past, when we didn't belong anywhere, I'd get him a certificate to another local golf course and he always liked it.

Lol! For some reason, I just don't see you being that kind of girl... but *I'M* not that kind of girl... (I have a below the neck policy) so maybe you are? Idk. I've had too much coffee and sugar today.

Lol! What kind of girl, that kind that gives bjs once in a while? Don't we all? Stick out tongue That's probably all I should say about that, who knows who is reading this!

    I'm off to lunch!

  • My H wanted nothing for his either...he turned 30 in March.  No party, no big presents, nothing.  We DID go to dinner just the 3 of us (Marcus wasn't in the pic yet).  So, that was nice.  But, even our friends asked if I was planning anything etc etc.  So, we basically just had dinner, got him an ice cream cake, and called it a night.  I told him that if there was something he thought of that he wanted, to let me know lol.

Fast forward to my birthday (which was a week and a half ago), also my 30th.  My bestfriend (who is also my neighbor) kept texting my H asking him what he wanted to do (her H turned 30 the day before me, so she wanted to put together big surprise party for the 2 of us).  My H never even texted her back.  He HATES parties, and thought it was stupid to throw one for us because "birthday parties are for kids."  So, finally my friend said something to me!  She really wanted to get the planning going, and finally just called me andtold me that she had tried to put something together for her H and me as a surprise.  She wasn't surprised by my H's reaction bc she remembered how he wanted nothing done for his 30th.  So, her and I planned the whole party (which turned out awesome) and we had a big party for her H and me on my birthday.  It was so much fun.  But, then H didn't even get me a card or anything for my birthday.  So, finally the next day, I asked him where my present was.  He said that he didn't get me one because I had the party and spent a lot of money on that.  Ok, fine, I get that.  But, a card would have been nice!!!!

so, I would be in the SAME boat as you when it comes to birthdays...does he like the casino?  Maybe get him a card and put some cash in it, and the two of u go gamble for a few hrs.  My H would like that.  Or, if there is something he loves for u to cook (my H lovvvves lobster and steak), so maybe you could buy some fancy food to prepare and make a really nice dinner for u two at home...you could send him off to do something with his friends for the afternoon so that u have a chance to get it all ready for him.  I don't know, just some ideas!

  • Below the neck?  As in, only in holes below the neck?  You don't enjoy a good earfucking?

  • LOL. Idk, Lauren. I certainly don't do it nearly as often as one might think. If ever.

Nicole - No way Jose. Anything else is pretty much fair game.

Is there any way you could pick up the tab for the beers for the guys while they play or something? I don't know if that's even possible...but is there any way you could do a little something extra? Of course, again, that doesn't matter too much with joint money anyway, but it's just the gesture. :)

Or is there a new club he wants you could get him to use for his outing? My H is golf-obsessed so I know he would love anything new for his golf day: club, shirt, golfballs, whatever.

I hear what you're saying about wanting to plan something big for him, but the most important part of someone's birthday (IMHO) is just letting them do what they want to do most. It sounds like a golf day with a nice meal cooked by his lovely wife will be just perfect for him. :)

Good idea, I will look into some other "golf-y" stuff for him!

I got a $50 gift card to the Todd for a wedding gift.  I'll never go.  It's yours for $40 ;)  But really, I agree with pp's, give the man what he wants.  Golf stuff and dinner.  His favorite.  And sex of course :)

  • Maybe you could hire a personal chef to come to your place and make a nice dinner and then maybe rent a limo to take you to the beach or something romantic afterwards?

I always love your ideas, one of these days I will get to do this : )

Lauren for my Hs bday I took him to his favorite sushi place with friends already waiting at the restaurant. Got him a cake made by Mindy : ) shaped as a basketball (his favorite sport) and loved it.

I agree, the personal chef and limo thing would be awesome!

And actually the cake idea is great, maybe I can get one also shaped into some type of sports accessory.

    Thanks, ladies!

That's giving me another cake idea... he loves casinos although he hates the Hard Rock, long story... but maybe some kind of gambling or casino themed cake, haha.

  • I like the guys day out/dinner idea.  H just celebrated his 30th 2 weeks ago and all he wanted to do was go clay shooting.  I surprised him by telling him that he and his dad were going shooting and that I was just taking him to lunch.  He didn't realize that his family and some friends were meeting us at his favorite BBQ joint and then he and 3 guys were going shooting afterwards.  It worked out perfectly and H said it was the best birthday he has had.  I know you will plan a great birthday for your H.
  • Sorry Lauren, this is off-topic, but did you got for sushi in SH?  I was just wondering if there's any place good here that I'm missing!

  • Just a quick thought for a gift: some sort of scrapbook or photo album of friends, family, and the two of you.  I know not all guys are sentimental like that, but I threw together a small little scrapbook for my dad for fathers day of us kids and our new families and such (to show how much our family has grown) and he loved it.  My dad is exactly like your hubby, he hates big gtg and he pretty much has all the tools he needs/wants, so it's hard to shop for him.  I'm not that crafty either, so it wasn't like I stressed myself out over making this book for him.  Just a suggestion.

Definitely a cute idea. I think I'm going to do this for our 10th anniversary of being together, which will be next summer. Pictures through the ages of the 2 of us with funny memories written in :) MH does appreciate stuff like that, which is pretty cool. I put together all our scrapbooks and photo albums and he always likes them a lot. Thanks!
