How did you meet your dh?

Hannikan's comment in the other post about meeting her husband at The Counter got me thinking (how exactly did that happen?). How did all of you meet your husbands?

Re: How did you meet your dh?

  • MySpace. Yep, that already sounds dated. We had a bunch of mutual friends and one day I got a message from this hot guy who complimented me on my unusual taste in music (Tom Waits and Robert Johnson -- it's not often people list blues musicians from 1930s as their favs) and my taste in friends. We started chatting, then met, then the rest is history.

We didn't meet at the Counter, that's here in San Jose. We went there with his family for the first time yesterday. I met him at Au Coquelet in Berkeley, which is where the Going Away GTG for me was on Sat. Drew and I wrote to each other for a month (through Excite.com) before meeting in person at Au Coquelet. That was 10 years ago this week. Big Smile
  • High School. We were in the same trigonometry class-my senior yr, his junior yr.

  • High school. We met senior year when we both kind of ended up hanging out in the same group of friends. We didn't start dating until two years later though - he took the chance and told me we should be more than friends. I was skeptical (I predicted we'd break up after two weeks) but was obviously wrong...
  • High school. He took me to my freshmen homecoming (but we didnt start dating until I was 19). He is also my brothers friend. Smile

  • Disneyland! Actually, it was our high school senior trip. We had a lot of mutual friends and ended up hanging out together. Then we hung out again at Grad night two days later. Two weeks later, we went to the same party, made out, and then he asked me out the next day! Scary thing is: we're hitting our ten year high school reunion this year. We've been together 10 years!

  • Our story is uber-dorky...

We "met" on a BBS back in 1996. A BBS is basically a "primitive" message board/forum, not too dissimilar from this (except there were no images or fancy fonts or colors or anything). People would call another person's computer (where the BBS was hosted) with their dial-up modems and read/post messages to each other. Users were generally local. I met a guy who ran one and got me into it. And DH had one too. We "met" each other on a popular local board, and started chatting. However, as one of the few females on these things, I tended to get a lot of male attention. So, when that board shut down, I lost touch with now-DH. He claims a few weeks later he felt like he "had to" find me, so he registered on my friend's BBS, and we started chatting again. Eventually he gave me his phone number, I called him, and we hit it off. We talked on the phone for months, developing a really close friendship, before finally meeting in person. A few months later we realized we both had feelings for each other when we wound up kissing after watching a movie together. The kiss was totally unplanned/unexpected, and still gives me tingles thinking about it!

Nearly 11 years later we were married.

  • Myspace for us too. I had no idea so many here had the same beginnings!
  • The first time we met: my two best friends picked me up from work and he was in the back seat of the car. They had seen him walking and we drove him to meet his ride home. I barely looked at him. The next time was at a house party thrown by our mutual friends, I saw this super attractive guy not realizing it was the same one I had met about 7 months earlier. I kept hoping he would dance with me (he didn't) Smile A few months/parties later we had talked more and started dating.

  • Yahoo chat...talk about out of date! For some reason in HS I was into chatting online, it was the days of ICQ and IMing was just becoming popular. Anyway, it ended up that he had family in the same town as me and things just clicked...that was 10 years ago!!!

  • A Yahoo Teen Chat room 14 years ago...I was only 17. We weren't in there for dating/romance purposes just to kill time on a summer night. We ended up chatting for about 6 months before we realized something was there and then talked on the phone for a few more months before meeting in person. We have officially been together 13 years this month.
  • We met when a girlfriend of mine was dating his friend - she invited me to his birthday party in Oakland, he used to be a house music promoter and had a big club rented out for his party.

We met that night and then again a few times at a bar we all hung out at, I was the one who asked him for his number.

  • We met through a mutual friend.  Technically, our first meeting was at a garage sale the mutual friend was having at his house.

  • We worked at the same restaurant my junior and senior year in high school.  He asked on of my co-workers when I turned 18 (he was 23) he asked me out on my 18th birthday. I said no.  He kept asking me out for about 3 months until I finally gave in and said yes. We have been together for 5 years now.

  • Wow, a lot of you met your DH's really young.

I met DH through friends....our roommates were dating. I remember telling him I wasn't interested in a boyfriend and that I was dating other people as well. He said, that's fine, I'll wait until you're ready. Oh, and I also remember telling my Mom that there was nothing to tell...he wasn't my type and it wasn't serious whatsoever. HA!!! What little did I know. That was 8+ years ago.

  • We worked together.  I was 19 and he was 20.  He came into my office and was flirting with me.  At the time my sisters bf also worked in dh's division so he started asking her bf about me.  We got together in Oct, moved in together in April and engaged in July.  Married on our 4 year anniversary.
  • We met during our sophomore year of college. We had a bunch of mutual friends for close to a year and a half and we never met (he took a girl that I was friends with and who lived on my hall Freshman year to the winter dance.NO clue!). A good friend of mine mentioned she was going to a super bowl party at a friends apartment and asked if I wanted to go. I said yes, and it was at my H's apartment. I had a HUGE crush on another guy at the time but that fell to crap pretty quick and I started hanging with H more. Three months after meeting we were dating. He proposed right before 1st semester finals of our senior year and we were married the following September.

  • When I was 19/20, worked at Oakridge in San Jose. Had to pass by now-DH's house every day to get home/to work and lusted after his 1969 purple GTO. We officially met on Yahoo Personal about 6-months after the GTO disappeared (turns out he moved out of the house) and didn't realize he was the owner until about 3 weeks into us chatting. Took me out for my first date ever at 21 years old and we've been inseparable since.
  • We met at a 4th of July house party at my house in Newport Beach.  My bff's boyfriend said two friends from his home town were coming to the party and I was to "take care of them."  One showed up.  I chatted with him, spilled a huge drink on him, made out with him, and basically spent the entire weekend together.  In short, I "took care of him."

He asked for my number, but I figured it would go nowhere since we lived 400 miles apart.  When he left the last morning, I remember being sad looking at him in my rear view mirror.  He called 2 days later.
