    Michelle, Happy Birthday to You!

    Dear Nesties,

In order to try to preserve my hair color, I am going to attempt to become an every other day hair washer.  I am really freaked out by this, as I have washed my hair every day since I can remember.

I am hoping on the off/no wash days, I can rock some kind of a funky/messy ponytail.

So far, I am trying hard to reduce my hair product use and keep my hands out of my hair to reduce dirt/oil.  Any other suggestions to make the transition a little easier?

-Nestie trying to save hair color and time in the morning!

    Dear Sara,

For my between washes day I use baby powder to help eliminate the "greasy" look. I put some in my hands and then pat it on my part (where it gets and looks the oiliest). Let it absorb what it needs to while I continue to get ready and when it's time to do the hair you can't see the powder. But if you can I just get a towel and wipe it off. You probably won't have this problem because you're hair is light, with my dark hair any speck of powder shows. Good luck!

  • BL - It's not the yearly fee that gets me, it's the crazy amount of money we spend every time we go into the store. Sam's hits us for at least $200 every time, which is more than we spend on groceries in two months. This is why we let our Sam's membership lapse so I have to see if DH will be back on the bandwagon for some cheap tanks and capris. :)  Also - I am sad for you that Wendi might move too. I know just how important a workout partner is! - Leslie

  • Dear Sara,

I used to use baby powder like Renee and it works great but I have recently tried the suave dry shampoo after reading some rave reviews about it on beauty blogs.  It smells like lemons and works as good as any salon brands I have tried.  I have a strong aversion to anything that smells like babies so that is why I now prefer it over baby powder but both work great.

-Another Nestie who never washes every day.

  • Dear Brianna and Shortgirl, ya'll crack me up!

Dear Sara--are you using a shampoo for colored hair?  I was going to suggest dry shampoo also.  I don't use it but I know girls that do.

Dear Dana, I am so sorry to hear what happened.  Hugs to you.

Dear GM smoothies (and the girls that got me on the bandwagon), I am go glad to have found you and so glad I started drinking you before my workouts.  I kicked butt at kickboxing today and it felt GREAT!!  I seriously feel like you've changed my workouts for the better.

Dear Ashley Hebert, I am trying really hard to like you and watch your show but you are making it very difficult.  I will be glad when your season is over and we are all out of our misery.  PLEASE shut up about Bentley--no one wants to hear about him anymore.  And if you say "dot dot dot" one more time, I seriously may throw myself off a building.

  • I second dry shampoo.  I swear by it.  Try Oscar Blandi too.  They have aerosol and powder forms of it.  You can buy it at Ulta.
  • Ladies...thanks for the hair advice.  I had thought about dry shampoo and/or baby powder, but was a little concerned with execution.  Here's to hoping it is easy and I don't botch it!

Stephie-  I am currently used a Redken shampoo for hair that has been color treated.

The first time I used it, I gave myself enough time to wash my hair (if I over-used the product, or if I hated it).  Maybe try that the first time?

Happy Birthday Michelle. Hope you have a great day.

  • Michelle - Happy birthday! I hope 30 treats you well!

    Dear sister,

Why did you give me whatever crud you had? Sore throat, congestion, exhaustion. It better go away soon!

  • Dear NTTA:

I HATE you! If we missed a toll payment why would you take it off our account so we can't see it? If we could see it and knew that we missed a payment we would have pay it. Instead you take it off our account and send it to collections to gather collections fees, when if it had been on our account we would have paid it. Makes no sense to me.

-Frustrated and no longer driving on the toll ways

    Dear Nesties,
    Thanks for the birthday wishes!

    Lauren,
No big party yet.  DH has been expanding our deck for about the last 2 months, and it still isn't done.  As soon as it is, we will PAR-TAY!

    Jaymie,
I think DH has plans for tonight, but I don't know what.  Up until last night when I asked he said he hadn't thought of anything.  Then last night, I told him my mom invited us out if he didn't have anything. I got a "I had something small planned, but we can cancel if you want to hang out with your mom".  Um, no.  I just want you to tell me that we are in fact doing something.  A surprise doesn't mean you have to act like NOTHING is going on.  You just don't have to tell me specifics.

End rant/  I'll let y'all know what we did tomorrow.  Party!!!

To whomever asked about washing hair daily (sorry I forget who),
I almost never wash my hair on consecutive days.  If I did, I think it would dry up and fall off.  Not to mention give me dandruff like no other.  I wash my hair every 2-3 days, and the others I just put it in some updo (ponytail, bun, etc).

Doesn't it just automatically charge your credit card when you get below a certain balance on your toll tag? That's what mine does. I don't ever have to keep up with it.

Just a bit of help... call the customer service.  They're normally super helpful when I call.

I can 100% guarantee you that I do NOT get paid enough to be hung up on.  Since we work for the same company and I was attempting to help you troubleshoot your "issue" I would appreciate if you didn't return the favor by slamming the phone down in my ear.  Get some class.

Dear Summer (and anyone else who might be interested),

Brad drives on the tollway about once, maybe twice, a week so we didn't think that getting a toll tag would be worth it. We were just paying the toll as the bills came in. With the move we must have missed a bill and therefore didn't pay it.

When I called the customer service lady she was so rude. She told me that when we get bills there are due dates and if they aren't paid by then the bill is late. No shiit lady. That's how bills work?! I had no idea! It's not like I've been paying bills since I was 16.

The original bill was $11.70 then they added $250 admin fees (bullshiit) to a grad total of $261.70. On the bright side we got it down to $94.20. I just can't get over how the original bill was $11!!! I wish I could charge $82.50 on each student who turned in their homework late. I'd be retired by now.

$250??? That is messed up.  If you get a tolltag will they reduce the fees further?

Just curious, what made you decide not to get a tolltag?  i don't have any service fee on mine, and the tolls are cheaper.  While you are paying them $10 up front, you get better rates by using the tag.

  • Dear Renee, that is such a ripoff I can't even believe it.  I would be livid!

Dear GM lovers, I went to Whole Foods at lunch and got fruit, spinach and chocolate soy milk.  So tomorrow I will make a GM with banana and chocolate soy milk.  I cannot wait already.

Dear Sara, today when I made my GM, I dumped in my bowl of pineapple that had alot of extra juice in it and it made my GM nice and sweet.

Dear Nesties, I promise I will stop talking about GMs now.

  • Yikes. Sorry you're having such a crappy experience, Renee.

I've found that the easiest way to go is to buy a tolltag, then you normally don't have to deal with them at all.

I don't remember how much they are initially. But I only pay $40 a month(I drive the toll 4 days a week), and if I don't use it, it's not like the money goes away. So that $40 could potentially last me 4 months if I don't drive the toll every day. And it saves me from getting annoying bills and problems with NTTA like you're having.

But, I think it's more than $40 for the initial purchase of the tag.  I've had it several years, I don't remember.

When we called for information they told us it had to be a certain amount for the actual tag and then we'd have to put at least $40 on it. It just didn't seem worth it at the time. Maybe now we'll rethink it.

Last night I stopped by the grocery store and bought frozen peaches and pineapple.  Hopefully tomorrow's GM will be better than the one I had Monday!  (I probably really need to use fresh fruit, but I am lazy at 6 am!)

    Dear Nesties,

Green Monsters are the new Clarisonic on this board lately!

  • Dear Nesties (ha, that still makes me chuckle),

I have to brag for a minute.  I'm feeling really proud of myself at work. We have an interim goal of 60% of our projects by this Friday, and I'm currently at 57%, and should meet the goal tomorrow, and then exceed it before Friday.  I am ecstatic.  This may not sound like that big a deal, but at my last job, my goals were unobtainable, and I got really down about it and beat myself up, convincing myself it must be at least partially my fault.  So now, to be actually meeting a goal at my new job, even though I'm still pretty new, well, let's just say I'm really proud.

Thanks for listening!  ~Proud me :)

  • Renee -

That sucks!  I've had a toll tag for a while so I don't remember the upfront cost of the tag, but I think it's been pretty useful.  I told DH to get one when he started getting billed for the tolls to see either set of parents.

NTTA is pretty sucky though.  I noticed that Chris was always getting mail from them, come to find out it's a statement.  He doesn't look at his mail, so I finally actually read it and told him they were charging him $1 a month for that unread statement (his account is tied into his debit card so it automatically deducts).

Hope you get some more of those charges reduced!

I just added a second tolltag to our account, and it didn't cost anything extra.  I'm pretty sure all you pay is the $40 (sorry I thought it was $10 earlier, but was wrong) to "fill" your account so tolls deduct from it.  Then it will charge you another $40 when you get down to $10 left if you authorize it to do so. Or it will bill you then.

Wow, it cost them more to mail it and let you know you owe that amount.  That is a waste!

We never drive on a toll road so I'm glad we don't have to deal with that but I know once they finish all this construction on 121/114, 820 and 635 we will have to drive on them more.

Yeah, growing up in the Lake Highlands area, I never used tolls. Never needed a toll tag, thought they were silly.  But now that I live right off the Dallas North Tollway, I use it pretty frequently.  So it is just easier to have one.
