True story: dating website.
Long story: he was in Turkey on a deployment and I was in training in TN. We exchanged messages for a month, phone calls for another couple of months once he was back to the US. We finally met when he came to visit me in TN. He was such a gentlemen... and super romantic. He arranged a surprise hot air balloon ride for us. After almost 2 years of long distance dating, we got married in July 2010. We are getting ready to celebrate our first anniversary next month.
We met our first day of classes as a freshman. We were the same major, same concentration, so we had a lot of classes together for 4 years. (In fact, we were the only two grads our year with our major)
FWIW, though, he was dating/engaged to someone else for most of college and we were just friends. She hated me, so we didn't spend a lot of time together then. We reconnected a few years after college and that's when we hit it off.
