Mrs.De - Essex?

Hey Mrs.De, is http://www.beautyandessex.com/home/ the same as your beloved Essex for brunch???

Re: Mrs.De - Essex?

No, that place is WAY fancier than our Essex!  Looks nice though!

  • Ohhhh that's right.  I remember sitting in that top balcony area.   I was just wondering if they were related in any way.
  • That Beauty and Essex place looks too high-class for us NYC Nesties.

    No joke.

We are a bunch of foul mouth critters that like to eat sandwiches as big as our own heads. Or maybe that is just me, 315 and MrsDe....

  • LOLLLLL.  Someone wanted to go there.  I was like wtf that place is fancy and expensive.  And wtf is the occasion that they want to go there in the middle of the week?  Naturally the plans fell through.
  • Okay so you all think this place is too fancy.  I wouldn't mind going here for an occasion.  Yet, you all seem to freely spend wayy more than I do on brunch.  Hmmm

I will only spend that way on a brunch once in a blue moon. That isn't my normal brunch budget. But for a nest gtg with the gals and Max Brenner's, I was willing to bust the bank.

  • Damn, how expensive was that brunch? The most expensive one I have been to was Stanton Social (we each paid like $35 or $40 I think) and that was sooooo good (worth every penny IMO).

I think that's the most anyone paid for Max Brenners, too. I don't think anyone's tab came to more than $40, did it?

  • I don't really think it was that expensive. Did you forget where you live, girl? We're in NYC and nothing is cheap here! =/

Exactly!  I always think that Essex is soooo cheap because it's $22 and it includes THREE drinks!  I've been to places where one drink alone is almost that much!

I put in $45. But I had the iced tea, the entree and the dessert and nothing is included. Gave me heart palpitations to put in that much, but it was worth it. Not like I had to eat again for the rest of the day, either!!

LOLLLLL.  Ok well hmmm, so you don't think I'm a weirdo, I will share that maybe my feelings can be attributed to the following: I am the only one (from last weekend's brunch) that lives in Manhattan, so my rent is MORE THAN HALF my (husband's) income.  Additionally, all my regular expenses (groceries, etc) are more than yours.  So I have less money left over for playing with.  Also, I just graduated from grad school and still kind of think of myself as a student.  Both my husband and I have student loans to pay off.  AND I don't have a job!   Maybe I will change my mind once I have a job.  Having said that, any job leads???

  • if I lived in Manhattan and didn't have a job I would probably stick with Ramen noodles and stale bread :-)

No leads for you, but good luck!  I am sure job hunting is stressful in this economy!

  • The only thing I can suggest is move to one of the outer boroughs and commute like the rest of us. =) You'll save half the amount of money in rent and groceries and will be able to afford the brunch. lol Good luck with finding a job.

  • We save money by never going out (see, who says having a baby is expensive?).  We don't have family in the area and sitters are $$$.  We hardly ever get out anymore, and even more rare that we get out together so the occasional $$ brunch is a well deserved treat :)
