AW: I am so excited I had to share. Met with my Oncologist at Hopkins, where I had my stem cell transplant. I am now five months post transplant and my immune system is rebounding amazingly! The Dr. was so pleased with my numbers! Last month I was cleared to get pedicures (thank goodness) and this month he cleared me for the pool (as long as I don't put my head under!)..... Little steps!!
Gulp: July 14th is the anniversary of the night I went to the ER (for the 3rd or 4th time for extreme back pain and spasms) and was admitted. Over a five day stay I was diagnosed with the cancer. It has been such a bittersweet year. I have learned so much, become so much more connected with my family, friends, and even DH, and I have battled an awful cancer. DH and I talked about it. Not sure what we are going to do but I feel like I need to do something to acknowledge that day. I don't want it to be a negative day, as I have really worked hard to see all the positives during this journey.
As always, thanks for your cyber (and RL) support!
Re: AW and Gulp: Latest Blood Work
definitely make it a positive celebration! plant a tree or something and do the same thing every year! have a romantic drink/dinner... you deserve it!
the power of positive thinking CAN NOT be overstated! Congrats on your recovery!
"What is a week-end?"
Congratulations! I love science
I think its a great idea as well to mark the day. I think you have to view it as something positive because if you hadn't gone to the ER you wouldn't have known and you wouldn't have been able to start treatment. I think you and your husband should just take the day and spend it together. Maybe get pedicures

Stand up for something you believe in.
hooray!! that is so wonderful! you should definitely do something rewarding to acknowledge the year you have just endured. i agree make it something you can do every year as a reminder.
can i ask something dumb? why no head underwater at the pool?
As I understand it there is LOADS of bacteria and i guess if my head goes underwater i could ingest it. He really hemmed and hawed about me even getting into the pool, so I will take what I can get. One of the side effects of my cancer is a fracture in my spine, so I am limited with what kind of exercise I can do. Pool walking is one I love doing, along with water aerobics.......
YAY YAY YAY!!! That's great news!!!
You have come a long way in the past year. Acknowledging the anniversary sounds like a good idea.
We make the rockin' world go 'round.
Ditto... congratulations! Great news.
Seconding these thoughts!
I'm so sorry you had to go through this past year, but am thrilled you're coming out of it a) alive, b) full of life and appreciation, c) with such insightfulness you've shared throughout your journey back to better health.
Every time I see a post from you I'm reminded of so many things I take for granted, especially my health. I'm grateful you've shared with us along the way, especially how you can incorporate positive thinking and let it enhance the other things you're doing to be proactive.
Bottom line? I find you inspirational. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!
I'm so happy for you!
