Double sided tape for cats?

I've been hearing about some sort of double-sided tape (not the regular stuff) that you can put on furniture to prevent kitties from clawing it. Does anyone know what it's called or where I can find it?

One of our kitties is clawing our new couch!

  • A friend recommended this to me, we haven't tried it yet because our kitten hasn't started scratching too much yet, plus we aren't letting him out while we aren't home yet. You'll have to let me know how it works though!

  • I'm not sure what it's called but they sell it at Petco, etc. I don't recommend it though...it worked ok while it stayed on but it never stuck to one of our couches and when we removed it from the other one it pulled more fibers out of the fabric than the cats did by far. It also stained the fabric and left a sticky residue that won't go away. We just keep plenty of cardboard scratchers in the house and hope they'll claw those instead.

    also, our cats ate it.

    so.

our poor furniture. we've got a few pieces we protect but the couch and the snuggle chair are goners, upholstery wise.

  • I used double sided tape from Petco and it didn't leave any residue marks and my couch isn't sticky but I also used Soft Claws and that seemed to work better. I wasn't so happy about paying $25 for them but they are worth it. It's pretty easy to glue them over the cats nails and they pop off when the nail grows. Also having a scratcher near the end of the couch could help out too. Good luck!

  • I tried that once but that sofa was too far gone by then, anyway. I don't think it served as a deterent. Maybe if I'd have covered the whole sofa with it......? Tongue Tied

I have noticed that our kitties don't scratch our microfiber couch, FWIW (maybe the fabric isn't comfortable?) and for the other stuff, the good old water spritzer bottles that we have placed strategically around the house and use when we have to seem to be working. The new kitten loves the cardboard scratcher things, whereas the two older ones ignore them and stick to the regular carpetted scratching posts.

  • Yeah, I bought some and they seem to be working. Of course, half of them keep falling off (it doesn't stick so well to the microfiber). I also moved a scratching post next to the couch and they've been attacking that. Let's hope it stays that way.
