Re: Also.

  • I don't think they can do that at the Federal level...
  • Lol.  Raise your hand if you think this is a common problem that should require use of taxpayers or federal money to put into a law.

  • Meh.  I kind of think this is bullshit.  As is the porch light vigil and what not.  It is heartbreaking that a little girl died, but I also think that enacting a law requiring notification would not have saved a life here.  Her body would have been less decomposed and possibly there would have been more evidence to go on for a criminal case, but reporting her missing on day one vs. day thirty-one is not law-worthy IMO.  Plus, wtf kind of charges would matter at that point?  You're up for murder but we're going to tack on a slap-on-the-hand offense of not reporting in a timely fashion?  Additionally, there are always mitigating circumstances - the kid was with their other parent, I thought they were with their aunt, I was strung out on drugs, I'm mentally unstable, etc.  Conviction would be pointless in many cases.  And a waste of tax dollars.

  • Haha!

It's just a Constitutional issue.  The Feds don't have authority in that area.  They only can make laws in areas that the Constitution grants them.  This would probably be left to the individual states.

  • Eh, I don't think it is necessarily a waste.

I think the fact that she didn't report her missing in a "timely fashion" and she is walking for that is insane. It sets a precedent that you can not know/care where your kid is for a month and it's a-okay. I'd rather have some sort of law requiring a report within X amount of days rather than "Well, CA did it, why can't I?" And you know there are bat *** crazy people who will do that. Maybe not a lot, but enough.

    Just my .02. :)

  • Not really sure that this is something they can enact at the Federal level and don't know that it would solve anything.
  • There are some pretty dumb laws still on the books in FL.  It's still illegal to cohabitate!  I don't think I'd be opposed to passing one like this so it is there when needed.

    Bam.

Also, I think it is illegal to have intercourse in any position other than missionary. I may have just made that up.

  • Lol! You may be right!

Still, I don't know that a law like this would really even have made a difference with Casey since Caylee was never really missing.  She just never told anyone she was dead.

  • She -was- missing, just no one knew it. IMO.

    I'm hungry.

I think I dated a guy once who would totally support this law.  ;)
