make me feel better that i'm not the only one totally procrastinating today....
i've decided that i want to paint the desk in my home office black. i got all of the primer, paint, rollers, brushes, new knobs, etc, about two weeks ago. it is all sitting in a bag next to my desk downstairs.
friday's are generally slow for me so i thought i could relocate my workspace to our other desk, sand and prime and paint in between calls (it is for my office, so it's work related, right?)
i have gotten as far as.... nothing. i have such an aversion to this project. there probably isn't a day better than today to do it (i'm going away this weekend) and yet i still can't motivate to start it.
what are you avoiding lately?
Re: what are you avoiding today?
i'm avoiding a work project that is in excel. i really effing hate excel. i'm doing it bit by bit but i really should be more focused.
i've also been avoiding major cleaning of my kitchen for the past two weekends and it really needs to happen.
besides work?
I have a project at home that I finally knuckled under to (probably got that metaphor wrong)....similar to yours. An old toy chest needed to be painted and I finally did that two nights ago (after having it sat in the garage for six months, then in the spare room for another two weeks...). Now John needs to cut the wood I need to beef up the bottom before I can install casters. Then I need to go to HD or Lowes and get cedar lining, and to Joann fabrics and buy some cute decorator fabric and padding and fix the top, then I can use it for blanket storage on one of the spare bedrooms (son's old room). By the time I am done, I will need the blankets and the box will sit empty.
there's also the project in my daughter's old room, but .... I haven't been putitng that one off as long.
"What is a week-end?"
Same. I've also been avoiding cleaning out my basement for about 2 years.
there is a pile of clothes (folded & everything) placed on a chair near the stairs that needs to be put away. this would take all of 60 seconds to do, but I don't wanna do it. they've been sitting there for 48 hrs at this point.
OMG - please invite me over to do this with/for you!
("geeked"out by cleaning! I need therapy, I know....)
"What is a week-end?"
As of right now? Walking out to the mailbox at work to mail something. It was supposed to get mailed yesterday, but there it sits, and there it will sit.
Otherwise, i've really got nothing, aside from cleaning up the back porch and deck.
We make the rockin' world go 'round.
Oh, Pam. I could make you so, so happy with my closets alone. Except that I'm too embarrassed to show them to anyone.
I'm also avoiding an excel project.
I hope to avoid getting a big project before the weekend as well. I hate leaving work and feeling like I can't leave it behind.
Stand up for something you believe in.
I folded about three weeks' worth of work cardigans at 6 am, so I figure I'm allowed to go back to procrastinating at work, right?
I have 65-work related items in my Google reader that I just need to go through and figure out whether anyone needs to see them. I hate having to open up 65 files, since it bogs down my computer and my ability to process things. But if I don't do it now, there will be 100 by Monday. It's a never-ending cycle that always bites me in the butt in the end. I'll probably break down and do it this afternoon...
If I'm honest, I'm procrastinating with just about everything lately. I take it as a sign that I need a day off to myself.
Also, cleaning my bathroom. Like it hasn't had a real deep clean since the baby was born. 6 months ago. We have cleaned the floor a few times and the counter is clean, but I know the true disgustingness.
Last weekend I organized my storage bins of clothes in our basement - separated into categories (too small, too big, maternity, things I can hopefully wear again when I am done nursing, and then winter). I wound up with a huge bag of Goodwill donations and felt very accomplished.
Seriously? You are welcome to come over and clean out my basement any time! I'll even throw in an 11-month old helper.
Putting away my laundry from a couple weeks ago. My laundry basket only seems to be used for hauling dirty clothes downstairs and for holding clean clothes upstairs. My dirty clothes pile up on the floor because I never end up putting everything away from the last load.
Cleaning the bathrooms.
Cleaning out my car. I still have all my school stuff sitting in the trunk.
Doing anything relatively productive since it's my last completely free day for a couple weeks.
anything can be done with a glass of wine (or a beer) in your hand! out of reach of the 11-m.o. helper, of course! As I've siad to others -- it's not my stuff. It's much easier for me to sort and toss with abandon.:)
"What is a week-end?"
Oh, goodness, yes. I have a diaper box that I started putting clothes in, but now the stack is twice as tall as the sides of the box.
I avoided cleaning our basement for years, but when we finally did it, it took us one sitter and 4 bleeping hours. I definitely spent more than 4 hours avoiding it.
I am avoiding writing a report which basically says, "You know that thing we said we would do? Didn't turn out so well. Deuces."
I've procrastinated for a week on 18 pages of fall layouts to proof. Ugh. SO boring.
Baby248 - ETA 1/10/13
but after next week - not your problem!
"What is a week-end?"
Writing talking points and a briefing for the big boss. Due to my boss today. I hate briefings and talking points.
True dat, but silly me said I was good for 'em before leaving. Meh.
I'll knock 'em out today. I like setting a timer for like 5 minutes a page and seeing if I can beat the clock. Whatever works, right?
I have a 600 page thing I have to read and summarize (a very dry 600 pages). I should have done it at the beginning of the week (or, even before I went on vacation...).
It absolutely needs to be done by Monday. Really, it should be done before my 11AM meeting - but I'm gonna wing it.
You all made me feel sooooo much better!!!
(Clearly I have not started my project yet....)
