As someone new to massages, I'm officially freaked out now.

    Lacey,

My mom suggested a chiropractor if it doesn't get better.  I just don't know what could have started causing it all of a sudden. Because this just literally started being a problem within the last 3 weeks. Not the migraines, but the tension and pain.

Before that, my migraines I know were hormone and weather/temperature related like they've always historically been. I can predict when I'm going to get one based on where I am in my menstrual cycle. It's like clockwork.

Hmmm... nothing else has changed when the tension started?  Was that the start of summer school?  Are you carrying a heavier backpack?  Still wearing tennis shoes?  Walking farther with a heavier bag?  Harder class schedule?

  • imageLDMainsy:

Sorry about your migraines. :(  I agree that it could be caused from all the studying you do.  Maybe you could try some stretches to help with the tension.  Also, I really like the Excedrin Migraine.  It seems to be the only OTC med that works for me when I get my monthly migraines.  Feel better soon!

Good to know there's one in Addison!

And thank you! I am definitely up for trying anything at this point.

As far as Excedrin Migraine, I take really strong prescription stuff, so I don't really use OTC stuff.

But I will say my best friend's dad is a doctor, and he told me not to use Excedrin in general, because it tears up your stomach. He said stick to Tylenol if possible.

  • I know we have already talked some Summer but this is the main cause of mine.  Some is stress or improper lifting of things like heavy groceries but the worst days by far is when I spend the bulk of it at my desk or in a meeting with my head turned.  I love Biofreeze I order it online and keep a roller at home and in my purse.  I also find that going to sleep with heat therapy helps.

Also, how is your vision?   Even if you haven't noticed a change you might want to see an eye doctor... I know this can cause some pretty serious headaches.

I know my vision is fine overall, but I wear glasses with a very light prescription at work and it helps ease tension and eye fatigue from the computer screen and constant focus.

  • I am gettting ready to leave work for the weekend, but had to leave you girls with this gem:

This girl posted a picture of her cervical mucus on Trying to Get Pregnant, uproar was caused and now someone posted about it on FFF, so it should turn into a good one. Because I can't help myself I went to look at the CM post and seriously had a dry heave. It turns out looking a pee sticks doesn't bother me at all, body fluids though, I draw the line. Stick out tongue

DO NOT GO FIND THE POST! - You have been warned.

  • Leslie- I think I'll stay away from that one. Thanks

    Tiffany and Lacey-

I do wear glasses, actually. Just got them about 5 months ago.

And the only thing that really changed when I started noticing all this was I was studying a lot more. That's it. So, I'm deducing that it's just the position I'm sitting in to study. But, I don't really have a lot of options! When you study for HOURS at a time, it's much more comforting to sit on the couch than at a table. Which, those are the only two options we have at home.

So I think I'm going to try some of the biofreeze. Maybe my Massage Envy will have some I can try. I may go up there today. I have a lot of studying to do this weekend for my final on Monday. Can't afford to be in pain all weekend.

Yea for Friday!  Short weeks always seem the longest.  I am a big nerd (maybe cheap) and requested a bunch of movies from my city library.  One of them is finally in and I plan to have a lazy afternoon tomorrow to watch it.

My friend gave me the True Blood season 1 and 2 DVDs. I intend to do some of this myself. I am also going to get a pedicure this weekend, my toes need it.

Last night when I got home from the gym, DH was at the neighbors house. I walked over there and the neighbor was actually giving two other neighbors a personal training session. I knew he was a certified personal trainer but I never thought to ask him to train me since I figured it was like doing work at home. We talked about it and he said he would love to train me. I felt bad having him do it for free, so I am paying him a little but now I have a personal trainer 2 houses down! I am so excited.

Score!  DH has off today, and instead of going to the gym at the butt crack of dawn, I decided to take Penny for a long walk/jog.  She was gassed when we got back :)

So I know you guys have had a G2G at Taco Diner in Addison. DH and I were thinking about going there for dinner tonight, but neither one of us have been before.  What do y'all recommend we try?

We went to the Taco Diner in Las Colinas but I assume they're all the same. I love the briscket tacos!

Oohh, I guess I got it confused b/c there had been so much talk about having a G2G in Addison. Embarrassed  Yes, there is one off Beltline and Addison Rd.-ish?  I saw it the other day and remembered y'all talking about it. I will definitely have to try the brisket tacos.  Those sound delish!

Just a heads up about the Excedrin Migraine.  If you compare Excedrin Migraine with Excedrin Extra Strength, it's the same thing but the extra strength is usually a cheaper.

  • Leslie - that sounds disgusting, I will not be seeking that out.

Summer - this may sound silly, but do you sit there for hours straight?  I know you've probably heard this, but it will do your body wonders to actually take a break every hour or hour and a half.  And by a break, I mean get up, walk around, maybe take a short walk - do something to get you in a standing position.  That might help ease some of the pain.  Even stretching could help.

Yes, I sit there for hours straight. Embarrassed

I know it's bad. Sometimes I just get into it and I can't find a good stopping position. H says I really need to go take a walk sometimes and take breaks. Sometimes that's hard to want to do when it's 103 degrees out though!

You could do household stuff too.   Vacuum a room, start a load of laundry, load the dishwasher... etc.   Anything to give those muscles a break.

Yeah, good point. AND chores would get done. Killing two birds with one stone. haha.

  • Thanks for the FYI's about Excedrin Migraine.  I never thought to compare btwn the EM and Extra Strength.  I try to limit the amount I take.  I think the instructions are no more than 2 every 24 hrs, and I only take them 1-2 times a month, so maybe as long as I don't go over that?  I have a prescription for bupap or something like that, but it makes me so loopy I can't focus at work.

This is random, but since we're talking about meds being the same, my grandma figured out that the Simply Sleep is made of the exact same thing as regular Benadryl!  ZzZzZzZ

No wonder that stuff never worked for me.

  • Summer - When I'm in school, I try to take a break every hour or so and stretch. I do about 20 minutes of stretching. It makes me feel so much better and if I'm starting to get sleepy it wakes me up a little.

I also study on the couch because its more comfortable for my butt and my back, but my neck usually pays the price. Last semester I bought a book holder and one of those things for your lap that you put your laptop on (I don't remember the name). Now my books are at eye level when I study for hours and hours. Ny neck is so much better.

I also go to the chiropracter when I feel like I should. If I went once a month I would probably have less pain. I'm a member at Massage Envy too, and I've noticed that an hour isn't long enough for them to get all my knots. I usually go for two hours.

  • Summer, you should get the neck thingy I mentioned a while back - it's called the Real-Ease and it's amazing.  And about $30.  I suddenly developed tension headaches in college, after living in a place with the same bed for 7 months or so.  I had to be very particular about the way I slept after that, and I also got a tempurpedic pillow which I love.  Also, using a computer mouse a certain way really kills me - I tend to "reach" and extend my arm too far and after a while it hurts my neck.  Move things around your desk and see if that helps.  There are also some stretches you can do to help - I'm not sure I can type them out though.  Next G2G I'll show you, or you can email me and I'll try to explain.  ajvanwey at gmail.

    Thanks girl.

BL suggested a certain pillow too. I'm going to look into both of them.

  • I also noticed that Pamprin extra strength has the exact same ingredients as Excedrin, but it's way pricier.
